Three pieces on Covid-19 for this week.
(1) From the Voice of OC: Orange County’s Restaurants and Shopping Centers Can Now Reopen.
Yowza! Things must be going really well, right? Think again.
(2) OC Moves to Reopen by Memorial Day Weekend Despite Two Record Days of Coronavirus Deaths
Well, you see 17 of the 24 deaths over that two day period are in nursing homes: and the credo of the Veruca Salt Brigade is that old people can just due if not properly quarantines — which is … whose fault? — while healthy people will survive, despite good evidence that healthy young people are not always surviving, as CoVid-19 also includes clotting disorders as well a respiratory ones.
Part of the problem is that OC has been goosing its numbers through the simple expedient of not testing very much compared to other counties, reducing the number of apparent cases. We can tell this because the rate of positive test results in the county is above 8%, meaning that we’re largely testing only people who show symptoms, rather then the whole population, which would allow us to find asymptomatic carriers.
Makes you feel that much better about openings, right?
And if that isn’t enough good news for you, take a look at this link:
Yes, that’s facemask scofflaws deliberately coughing on people in retail stores.

Covid Coughers are writing checks their asses can’t cover.
As a lawyer, I cannot advise you what to do in a situation where someone without a mask out in public deliberately coughs in your face, but I can tell you that it sure looks like assault and battery to me and you can draw your own conclusions.
This is your Weekend Open Thread — talk about that or anything else you’d like to within reasonable bounds of discretion and contamination.
*OK Dr. D., we accept your invitation. How about this for an Open Thread issue:
“Virtual Governing”. The Congress people don’t need to go to D.C. They should stay
right in their own districts. They should have to take those paychecks from Lobbyists
right where they live. Oh, we know it will be inconvenient for the Big Pharma and Big
Agra folks to have to travel all over the US to drop off their brown bags in person, but
maybe they can just send it Electronically to the Swiss Bank Account of their choice.
Oh, we know we sound very cynical, but there in no need for members of Congress to
be “On Location”, when they can just send in their vote Electronically and Instantly.
Like Vote by Mail…….why should we have to go to some Polling place with of bunch of people we don’t know or only see every two to four years….to have to manipulate some stupid old style software that will probably won’t even vote for what we voted for in the first place? What we do need however is strict oversight of the Registrar of Voters Offices around the country. There should be “On Sight Observers” as they do in African or Asians Nations with “iffy” governments….or and places like the old South Africa too.
Anyway, there would be plenty of volunteers from all the Parties, to watch the Mail in ballots come into the Registrars Office and watch the actual counting. Registering to Vote is the biggie. When you graduate from High School, one of the requirements should be to take and complete a Civics Class and Register to Vote, with a Confirmed Receipt and Validation that in fact you are Registered to vote. When anyone sends in their Mail In Ballot, they should be able to go online and confirm that their ballot was sent and received.. Happy Memorial Day……..For every person that has served in the Military, given Life or Limb, sacrificed their careers and relationships, save the life of comrads in arms or completed their service under Honorable Conditions – We salute you!
