President Barack Obama gets his rally on in Anaheim. You probably couldn’t get tickets.
Introductions start 16 minutes in.
The President starts about 1 hour 50 minutes in.
This is your Weekend Open Thread.
About Greg Diamond
Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that.
Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too.
He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
Like most,I did not get a response to my request for tickets, despite my hundreds of hours volunteering in CD 49.
It was explained to me that this was a “media event” designed to create “countless video clips, photos and free media” for the candidates. The attendees were carefully chosen and more closely vetted. Specifically, they (the DPCC) were worried about getting off message.
Ironically, my EMAIL and cell has already received ad’s for Katie Porter and Gil Cicineros, who’s district I can’t vote in.
From ABC 7 coverage it looked like a who’s who of rich white coastal dems.
I hope they made a lot of money.
Where you say “DPCC,” o you mean DCCC (Congressional Committee) or DPOC (OC Party Committee)? I presume that it was the DCCC that ran this. I didn’t get invited and was not willing to subject my phone to texts in exchange to take part in a raffle.
I don’t think that this was so much about money, but about eyeballs — more from secondary coverage than from inside the venue. Could be wrong there.
I only wanna know two things from folks that went to this:
Were there any great anti-Obama protests outside by Trumpies?
And what was the security like around the place? Was it a hyper-militarized police state zone like they created (at tens of thousands of dollars taxpayer costs) with police forces from all over the county, swat gear, etc … for the time Trump came over three years ago?

Florice tells me, “There were three protesters for Trump and did not appear to be together. One of them was from the anti SB 54 rally. All three white men. Only one was under 60. The security was not bad. Just a bag check. There was security police and secret service inside.”
The one protester under 60 appears to have been Torrance’s ubiquitous and unemployed Arthur Schaper, pictured here screaming into Lou Correa’s face at an immigration event:
Sounds like we should bring Obama here more often, Trump never.
Considering some deranged jerk (Seen posing happily in photos with OVSD Board Member candidate Gracey whatever van der who cares) expressed on social media the desire that our former president lose his life while in OC; hopefully security was very tight!
Egads. What page was that on? Facebook should be notified. (I’ll be that the Secret Service already knows.)
By the way: do termites attacking living trees? I honestly don’t know, but I didn’t think so. They help decompose dead trees, so far as I know, which is good. (If only they’d stick to that task.)
HB has the best Nazis. Where’s Chucky?
Funny, I went looking for hbsledgehammer.com … and there’s nothing there. It redirects to a cute old-fashioned picture of surfing.
Then I got curious and went to Epting’s blog “surfcitychronicles” … nothing there since May! And ALL of it attacks on Gina.
I guess Gina DID win a victory. What’s going on down there?
*it was great to see President Obama……what a throwback……when we actually had
a President. Didn’t get an invite……which is just fine…..we are still Registered Republicans. We understand. In “Life of Brian” we would be considered “spliters” we
suppose. Anyway, in a couple of months we will know if our Republic is safe for in doubt!
Excuse me are you the United Republican Front of America
Or their sworn enemy
The American Republican Front United
Or all their enemies
The Republican United American Front
Wankers all…
“Out the door, line on the left, one cross each”
*Good one Mikey…..glad you liked the Movie too! We are Superfans when it come John Cleese and the boyz! Bickus Dickus! Don’t forget him! Our apologies to our Likud and Shas Jewish Friends that believe that “Life of Brian” is pure “Blasphemy against God”.
Yeah that is the best part:
I’ve been there in my younger days…
*People’s Front of Judea? OMG! Thanks Chairman Vern….we needed that!
The two GCT-obsessed bloggers have gone incognito temporarily as part of a rebranding effort leading up to one blogger’s next court date. It is an effort to take “the high road.”
You’re saying that Chris Epting has stopped his “political” blogging and FB assaults – since May!? – and Chuck Johnson has taken down his Sledgehammer blog – in an effort to lay low in preparation of …
A hearing on one of Chuck’s drug charges? Or Chuck’s appeal of Gina’s court victory?
Doubt anything has “stopped” they have political forums they moderate. Secret OVSD pages, multiple fb accounts, twitter etc. But Gracey who was omnipresent on social media for years won’t participate on the forums at all even though she is running for school board. Instead there is a pack of proxies running interference. Can you imagine if anyone they opposed was running for anything and did that? Actually, no need to imagine it. They howled for years about an all access pass to other candidates. Joe Shaw. Gina. The list goes on.That’s documented. The bloggers seem to be attempting a rebranding as; normal, low profile, everyday folk who are mainly interested in lighter topics. City history. Nostalgia. Nature. Not calling your neighbors horrible profane names.
Seriously, not sure what this upcoming date is regarding. That family seems to appear in court fairly often. Not sure of any of this but taking an educated guess that nothing short of a lawyer advising them to keep a low profile could ever pry them away from social media and an attention fix.
Kind of like when Donald Trump and his administration suddenly call for “civility.”
