Murdock — like most responsible Breans — supports the carefully negotiated Measure K. School Bond. Royce opposes it. Selfish big downtown landlord and parking structure subsidy recipient Dwight Manley is dumping a bunch of money into killing it.
The “Recent Posts” list is so top-heavy right now that I hesitate to add anything else to it. (And fellow OJB contributors, if you have something short we can add it to the Open Thread.) But there are two things that I had really wanted to write, so I’ll combine them into one post.
(1) Yes on Measure K, No on L, and Re-elect the School Board
First. Brea hasn’t had a school bond in quite some time; the last one failed by a little over 200 votes. After that one failed, the leading people on both sides got together and hammered out an agreement on what an acceptable bond would look like. That became Measure K — with support across the political spectrum.
But one rich asshole has been lavishly funding a vicious campaign against it, as well as against the School Board members (Hobby, Lyons, and Todd) who supported it, because he is a rich landholding asshole — owning much of the property in Brea’s Downtown, and he doesn’t want to pay more property taxes on it. His name is Dwight Manley — and there’s NO possible bond that would be acceptable to him because he just doesn’t want to pay property taxes.
Some of you are inclined to agree with him on principle, because you think that taxes should be low, government should be small, etc. Well let me remind you that Dwight Manley is the guy who gave the money to elect a new City Council majority in 2014 which in return gave him a free $13 million parking structure that will primarily serve his property because he didn’t want to pay for THAT either.
Yes on K. For the Kids! And because Dwight Manley deserves a publicly administered kick in the ass. If he doesn’t like property taxes, he can sell his property and move to Nevada, where they don’t have property taxes — or high quality Orange County level public schools. Vote for Hobby, Lyons, and Todd as well, because Manley opposes them. And vote No on L, which cuts down the size of the school board, because Manley supports it and he can’t be trusted.
(2) “Subsidy Steve” “Chavez” Lodge Hates Homeless People, Despite Literature Saying Otherwise
One pitch in the Conservative Women’s Leadership Association pitch for Steve Lodge in District 1 is that he is loves and is so nice to homeless people. This is arrant bullshit and I happen to have proof.
After the new homeless shelter was opened in the Santa Ana Bus shelter, Supervisor Andrew Do (whom I neither support nor especially fear) posted an announcement about it on Facebook. I posted a comment saying that, while I wasn’t a supporter, I did believe in credit where it is due, and thanked him for pushing through the project.
Well, Steve Lodge came by and trashed Do and the homeless shelter, using particularly stupid arguments, like “we can’t give the homeless any facilities because they they won’t go away!” This is the Disney Corporation-endorsed candidate here, folks!
I responded to him, pointing out the flaws in his complaining about homeless people having a place to use showers and restrooms and noting that Civic Center employees who have been complaining about odors and health hazards from the use of informal latrines were probably VERY happy about this. Lodge replied — and then it was suddenly over, because Do or his media person reached in and trashed all four of the comments by me and Lodge, and I can’t hardly blame him.
It used to be that when someone did this, you’d still have access to your own comments, but that has recently changed. So I don’t still have exactly what I wrote, and I don’t have Lodge’s first comment … but I DO have Lodge’s second comment because the hot-headed testicle-pulling idiot put my name in it, triggering an email to me, which I kept.

Lordy, I’ve just been called stupid by Steve Lodge! This is like being called a drunk by Lushille Kring!
It “changes nothing,” Steve Lodge? Because it’s 100 yards away? YOU KNOW WHAT IT CHANGES, STEVE? IN THAT BUILDING 100 YARDS AWAY, THERE ARE TOILETS AND SHOWERS, SO THEY NO LONGER HAVE TO CRAP IN THE BUSHES IN THE CIVIC CENTER AND STINK FROM THAT AND FROM DAYS WITHOUT SHOWERS. THAT IS WHAT HAS “CHANGED,” YOU IMBECILE, AND IT’S NOT “NOTHING”!
If he and the two sitting Councilpersons are all elected, Lodge will suddenly become THE worst person on the City Council — and THAT is no easy feat. Thanks, Disney!
I’d love to see Lodge’s strategic plan for qualifying his residency in West Anaheim.
He talks about “experience”? What experience has he had besides perpetual excessive force on innocent people to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars paid out by the city and being forced into early retirement as a result (should have been jail time)? Then there’s trumping up murder charges on innocent victims so he can get his picture in the paper and what not.
Experience at lying, and carpetbagging, using a Hispanic name to gain Hispanic votes, even a judge called him a “bald faced liar”. I don’t see the experience. Someone please show me what experience Steve (not Chavez) Lodge has at making our community, or anywhere a better place.
How about his education? He’s a cop forced into early retirement for his incessant rampages and contrived murder charges on low income innocent victims. By now we’ve all seen the video of him starting a fight in hotel lobby. He can’t even be civil as a retiree. To be a cop you need no education above high school, and six mos in the academy.
What is his level of education? What are his positive change experiences? With his track record, where does he get off calling himself “experienced”?
Nancy, I am afraid the brutality IS Lodge’s experience, and Ryan, I am afraid the brutality is likely Lodge’s “strategic plan.” As in, beat the crap out of them when nobody is looking and they go away pretty fast. “Worked in prior years and is a proven success…” i don’t think he is talking about Utah’s “housing first” efforts, the ONLY strategic plan with a proven track record.
It is clear that providing basic services (and human compassion) is not on Lodge’s menu plan. Look at his reaction when Santa Ana/County did it.
I don’t have any evidence the man even knows what “strategic” means.
I think it may be time to pass on the cherished title of ass-clown to Mr. Lodge.
Who got together to “work this out” on measure K
My understanding is the board and Superintenent crammed this down voters throats.
Are you a Republican? They are always talking about having things crammed down their throats.
