‘Subsidy Steve’ Lodge’s Brazen Entry for ‘Biggest Lie of the Year’: “I’m Endorsed by Mayor Tait”

Here, Subsidy Steve -- I fixed some of that for you.

Here, “Subsidy Steve,” I fixed some of that for you.  Today we’re focusing on the lie on the far right!

Steve Lodge’s supporters claim that he’s leading his rivals in District 1, but there are only two reasons why a candidate would show such amazing contempt for voters as to claim — or at least (if you look at the right third of the document) strongly imply, in a way that a reasonable voter would interpret as a claim — that he is endorsed by his biggest political enemy, extremely popular Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait:

  1. Denise Barnes (his only significant Republican opposition, who is endorsed by Mayor Tait) must be scarfing up District 1’s “Tait Republican” vote), or
  2. He just really, really enjoys lying to people so much that he’ll do it even when it’s easy to disprove, because he has so much more money behind him that he figures that his opposition won’t have enough money to dispel the lie!

Of course, it could be both.

“Subsidy Steve” is NOT endorsed by Mayor Tait.  In fact, he’s been opposed to Mayor Tait on all of the contentious issues that have arisen during the Mayor’s six years in office.  (To be fair, Subsidy Steve” was not too involved in Anaheim politics during his years in Murietta during that time, nor so much during his involvement with “Real Gigolos of Orange County.”)  Neither Subsidy Steve” nor his political stable-mate Jordan Brandman were among the two candidates endorsed by Tait for Council in 2012.  “Subsidy Steve” is one of the main lobbyists for the ARC streetcar as part of his job with its developer!

“Subsidy Steve” Lodge’s trying to attach himself like a parasite to Mayor Tom Tait’s back as a way of achieving a Council Victory in District 1 is nothing short of obscene.  And this brazen of a lie shows such brazen contempt for voters that it disqualifies him from office.

Barnes will capture much of the Republican vote.  Democrats have the choice of “Lighter Subsidy” Len Lahtinen and Tait-friendly “No Subsidy!” Democrats Mark Daniels and Freddy Fitzgerald and left-of-Democrat Angel Van Stark, who are unfortunately trying to occupy the same niche of the political ecosystem.

But wait, you might say: how can we be sure that this came from Lodge?  Well, the proof is in the upper left-hand corner.  It’s a little faint, but if I enlarge it and turn down the brightness a bit, you can see it quite well.

Yep, officer! THAT'S the one who done it! I'd know his lies anywhere!

Yep, officer! THAT GUY is the one who done it!

And what did I partially obscure with my commentary above?  Well, I was trying to protect your eyes, but here you go:

This guy makes Lucille Kring look like Gandhi.

This guy makes Lucille Kring look like Gandhi.

Steve Lodge: your candidate if you don’t think that Anaheim cops aren’t killing and maiming enough brown and black males!  (Beware, voters: if you’re named “Chavez,” you’re definitely at risk!)

Send this one around to voters in the First District so that they’ll know how badly they’re being lied to.  And it might be worth calling Disney — which parachuted Lodge into the First District so that he could replace doomed politico Jordan Brandman as its voice for subsidies — that you don’t appreciate their sponsoring “Subsidy Steve’s” vicious dirty lies to the voters of Anaheim!  We’re not sure what number for Disney will get through to the right people — so maybe you’ll have to call all of them!

UPDATE, 10/30, 11:40 a.m.:

A District 1 resident writes in with some useful information:

In the Anaheim District 1 race I received 6 pieces for Steven Chavez Lodge 3 against Denise Barnes.

Of the 6 pro SCL, 1 was from the SCL campaign,  2 from Moving OC Forward, 2 from the Anaheim Police Association Independent Expenditure Committee, 1 from CWLA PAC.  All 3 of the Anti-Barnes pieces were from the Orange County Freedom Fund.

“Moving OC Forward” is, if memory serves, mostly SOAR/Disney money.  “Orange County Freedom Fund” donors warrant some examination.  CLWA is a PAC that looks like its status has been terminated, but I’m checking it out.  The APAIEC is a cops’ group interested mainly in high police pensions and avoiding accountability for their actions.

About Greg Diamond

Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that. Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too. He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.) His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
