No, this statement was not made by the Irvine-based PR-shill DPOC member, as part of his effort to discredit and dismiss a progressive, working-class Anaheim council candidate, Donna Acevedo-Nelson, who is the mother of one of the young Latinos killed by the APD. Close though, it was Donald Trump.
Let’s remember that the riots provoked by the multiple killings of 2012, and the militarized police reaction afterwards, shocked the world and tainted the pristine image of Disneyland, and it foreshadowed the police brutality against minorities that has occurred in other cities.
Most importantly for us, the locals, the riots brought into the open the problems of our town. It turned out that the problems are basically political, the question of who influences the governing decisions, who reaps the financial benefits, who determines the social order of the city. The “economic engines” and their lobbyists have reaped most of the benefit, and the law enforcement has acted as their Praetorian Guard. Subsidizing hotel developers and Disneyland in the manner and extent done until now is the crux of the conflicts and of the local political alignments.
In this context, Donna became a community activist and decided to run for the council, to bring a diverse perspective and solutions. Rather than encouraging people to get involved and prepared to participate in the relevant levels of city governance, criticism based on her suspected lack of academic or professional knowledge is shortsighted and discouraging.
Characterizing her as a puppet is malicious. It is aimed to prevent a potential city council member who questions the political and economic interests of the “economic engines.” It purposively ignores that the current council majority ( Brandman, Murray and Kring ) is predominantly supported and influenced by the Disney corporation, Pringle & Associates, and developers.
Donna at first supported Lorri Galloway when she ran against Mayor Tait, she doesn’t seem to frequently participate in the OJB, and although she assisted in Greg Diamond’s famous finger puppet presentation, she seems closer to the Weekly fellows than Greg. She will grow and get politically savvier during the electoral process, as she has done regarding police accountability.
Condescendingly calling Donna a “nice woman” and disqualifying her in derogatory terms is sexist. His criticism has racist overtones taking into account the context of “they know who those people are,” meaning Latinos in Anaheim. Chmielewski disagrees with Donna on how her son Joel was killed, and takes the police and DA at their word. He probably also disagrees with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals’ reversal of the verdict in the wrongful death lawsuit for Manuel Diaz.
Henry Vandermeir, the chairman of the DPOC, had an honorable moment in Anaheim politics when he presented the DPOC censure on Jordan Brandman for his vote to postpone elections in District 3. I hope that Vandermeir will have another honorable moment, and tell this Irvine PR flack to stop being a Pringle puppet and a Trump sound-alike.
What do you expect from a guy who says its ok that Pringle uses uniformed armed polls guards to intimidate Latinos from voting?

(1) Mike is suspended from this website until at least November 15. We don’t take kindly to spurious legal threats, especially given that for all we know a visit from Paul to Mike’s workplace could end in violence.
(2) Paul, we do not want you to visit Mike’s workplace or to engage in harassment of him in any way. We recognize that we do not control you and that we can’t prevent your doing anything you want to do regarding Mike — EXCEPT for your continuing to discuss him here. The topic of him is now off-limits to you until at least mid-November, at which time we’ll reassess all this. Please pass on this news to Henry Lipton as well, whom we’ll also ban if he continues the fight. If you can’t play nice, you can join Mike in the penalty box.
(3) About consistency of rules: don’t even go there. This is a private website and Vern can do what he wants regarding allowing discussion here. This is not the SOLE reason for Mike’s being suspended until after the election, but it in itself would be a sufficient reason. He will have ample opportunity to post at The Liberal OC, among other venues.
(4) Everyone else can (for now) continue talking about Mike if they wish, but given that he can’t respond here it would be bad form and we may eventually take steps to squash jeering and taunting and such.
(5) Vern can countermand all of this, but he’s not going to find another lawyer who can work as cheaply as I do.

As far as Donna, she has mastered a number of jobs including running a law office, a medical office, and licensed elder care, in addition to the property management she now does. I would totally hire Donna Acevedo-Nelson to care for my property, or my loved ones, if the need arose. I would not say the same for ANY of the others discussed here. I would not let them sit in the car with my mother while I ran into 7-11 for a Big Gulp.
I know some people with degrees who cannot think their way out of a paper bag. A degree means you follow the rules, turn in assignments, take the C average that nobody cares about when you leave school as long as you have the right connections. Education does not equal intelligence. Intelligence without integrity just makes a person slightly more savvy about raiding the treasury. It does not make you a better person. Donna Acevedo Nelson happens to possess intelligence, an education in her field, and integrity that the 4 Kleptos cannot match on their BEST days.
Growing up on the wrong side of the tracks and lacking the kind of insider connections that smooth things over for people like Murray and Brandman does not diminish Donna’s value to society. Certainly nobody faults her for NOT allowing herself to be used like the puppets that Eastman and Kring have become in exchange for entrance to the insider’s club.
You clearly don’t know Donna, but have judged her and projected your own superficial ideas onto to her, rooted in your own biases. While you and I have our battles, we agree on some important things. We are both friends of Donna’s (you for much longer than me), we both hate people punching down at women, and we both hate people pretending to be Mexicans online and gaining undeserved credibility to comment on issues regarding Latinos.
This brings us to “David Vasquez,” the commenter that Vern mentions. We have some information suggesting his actual identity — he has posted here under that pseudonym, although mostly posts elsewhere. If you’re interested in sharing information that could be used to blow this pig-rapist out of the water, given his defamation of Joel and Donna, please have some representative of the Weekly (which could be you so far as I’m concerned) get in touch with me.
This is not about Donna’s electability; I have good friends who are supporting another candidate in her race, and that’s just political disagreement. This is about some hooded Klansman type having gone completely beyond legal bounds in attacking her. We all have an interest in smashing that sort of thing — but only some of us have years of IP addresses to help do it.

The post described above has become, with Dan’s blessing, a haven for anonymous haters to slander Donna and her dead son. So far, if anyone believes the nameless commenters over there, Donna is a gang member, her dad was a gang member, her husband / Joey’s father was a gang member, and she was never married to him either. Maybe these Republicans also didn’t appreciate how Lucille first promised at least five of us including Mayor Tait that she would support settling the districting suit if elected, immediately broke that promise (and several other promises) and joined her colleagues in continuing the suit for a taxpayer cost of $3 million, and then last winter joined Brandman in trying again to thwart the intent of districting by postponing the most Latino district’s vote for two more years, the whole while lecturing us DISTRICTING SUPPORTERS on the spirit and purpose of districting.
Or maybe these Republicans were nonplussed by her justifying her broken campaign promises to Scott Baugh and the rest of the OC GOP: “It wasn’t in my campaign literature!”
Maybe these Republicans are fans of the Constitution and foes of summary execution who took exception to her joking about the shooting of Robert Moreno, “Saved us the cost of a trial!”
Perhaps these Republicans didn’t cotton to her standing next to Tony Rackauckas during her disastrous Mayoral run as the useless DA called Mayor Tait a gang lover.
It’s quite possible that these Republicans with a conscience didn’t appreciate Lucille’s backing of a tax increase masquerading as something else – 2014’s Measure N, which it took WILLIAM DENIS FITZGERALD to defeat.
Or – it just struck me – could the Republicans’ problem with Lucille be her trying to have it both ways on Short-Term Rentals, telling the anti-STR activists she opposes them, while secretly (but we caught her!) enjoying a STR-owner fundraiser?

Republicans are also disgusted at Kring’s deceitful end run around the City Charter on the Convention Center bond issuance saddling the General Fund with over half a billion in debt for decades.
Loved the part where Wordsmith lionizes Kring’s 2010 heroic run for State Senate (took one for the Team!) – but unfortunately “the party” refused to fund her campaign. He’d better watch it, he’s on thin ice. Kring was double-crossed by the Repuglican kleptocracy, not the party: PringleCorp backed Lou Correa,
Lucille did NOT “take one for the team” in 2010, as that implies she knew she was going under the bus and offered herself as a sacrifice for the greater good. Give me a break. No, they promised her the moon, the sun, the stars, if only she would take on Lou “life will end for the GOP if he is elected” Correa. And when the filing period closed, freezing her out of the run against Tait as the heir apparent to the Pringle Mayoral throne, only then did she say, “where is my fundraiser?” to which they replied, “what fundraiser?”
And THAT story was told to me by Lucille herself…and yet….she let the Kleptos do it to her again in 2014 with a run against Tait, while dumping her from the slate the second it was apparent her presence was so detrimental that it was dragging down the ticket with Eastman and Murray on it. The transition of campaign pieces from the early race vs later is a municipal magic trick. Now you see her, now you don’t. And that does not take into account the bizarre about-face of 2012. Kring takes a beating from the establishment, with numerous hit pieces, and then within weeks of her election is attending fund raisers hosted by the SAME people who just filled the mailboxes of her friends and neighbors with humiliating slurs. it is one thing to be for sale, it is another to have no sense of self respect to begin with.

Yeah Ryan, get the weekly hostage demands from Fred, and they have yet to see my check other than the annual membership dues I have to pay to remain an Alternate. Which is sad because earlier in silly season I did contribute, although apparently the “click here” sent by Fred led to a national GOP feed so our local committee did not get the money. HOWEVER, I DO understand WHY they felt compelled to have Lucille’s back. Initially the Endorsement Committee was taking a “no endorsement” position on ANY Anaheim races. As one “fearless leader” put it, they didn’t want to see scarce GOP resources squandered in the infighting between Pringle and Tait. Yeah, thanks for standing up for us Anaheim Republicans busting our butts to take our city back from the crony capitalists that are operating in direct defiance to the GOP Platform. BUT…then Kring showed up with the Declaration of one Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait, Republican, confirming his endorsement of Democratic candidate Arturo Ferreras for District 4 Council, in order to help Ferraras defend his ballot statement which was challenged by Kring in court. Once the GOP understood Tait had not simply offered friendly support to the DPOC endorsed candidate, but offered his full fledged outright ENDORSEMENT, then sitting it out became a non-starter. The GOP could take a neutral position and pretend Kring was not really being threatened by a candidate they considered a nobody who had never run for anything before, but once he was endorsed by Tait, he became a VERY VIABLE threat to Lucille and as much as those in the room detest Lucille, (with the exception of Baron Night and Steve Sarkis who pushed Lucille’s endorsement forward) they could not sit back and let the Dem take out a seat held by a GOP leader, even one who adheres less to the GOP platform than Father Arturos will do. It’s a pride thing, It would be the equivalent of the GOP endorsing Arturos.
That’s right. It was Tait’s endorsement of Arturos that forced the GOP to feel they had no choice but to endorse Lucille. Welcome to upside-down land.

I’ve never seen anybody less interested in good governance and more nakedly venal.

Mostly I am pissed that the bad Republicans the GOP has been shoving down Anaheim’s throat for so long have so badly soured many in our community that nobody wants to BE a Republican in Anaheim anymore. So Tait had to look outside his own party to find someone honest to run. That says a lot more about GOP leadership and the failure to develop leaders within our local party than it does about Tait or Ferreras.
I tried to tell them at GOP Central that night, in Anaheim we have traditionally held Republican majority for the Council but today we are losing GOP voters as an astonishing rate. They are NOT becoming Democrats, they are simply dropping the party crap to become DTS. They have not stopped caring about conservative values, they are just tired of being fed genuinely horrid human beings as “the Republican choice” for office, and as a result have left the party.
Tom Tait is making it popular to be a Republican again in Anaheim, and the party throws HIM under the bus, as if anyone can question Tait’s credentials when compared to the GOP Platform, and instead of staying out of a mess they helped create so the people of Anaheim can FIX IT they go sticking their noses further into the pile of stink.
