OCVMP Chairman Bill Cook, flanked by Don Wagner, Ken Jackson, and Gov. Jerry Brown.
Press release from the Orange County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation (“OCVMP”), marking iheartoc Giving Day:
Today is the day we begin our 30 hour fundraiser to benefit the Orange County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation’s efforts to get a cemetery built on the former Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro (currently the Great Park) in Irvine CA. We are in dire need of a location to lay our veterans to rest. There are currently 132,000 veterans living in Orange County with no place to call their own as far as a final resting place. Please, if you feel inspired to support this effort, contributions of any size are gratefully accepted and will be used solely to further our goals.
You can check out our profile by clicking on Connect OC Nonprofit Central – Orange County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation.
Contributions can be made to the Orange County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation by going to iheartoc: 30 Hours to Give Where Your Heart Lives!
[Ed. Note: OCVMP is one of many fine groups participating in this event, which began at 6 a.m. and will be going on until noon tomorrow (Thursday). If you have a group that you want to tout, add it in comments!]
About Greg Diamond
Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that.
Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too.
He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
Good cause.
*Dr. D., the devil is still in the details. We want an Administration Building which is occupied 24/7 – 365 days a year. We need a circular design broken into the four major separate service areas. We need a serious monument in the center with park area. If we do not demand these things NOW…..we will get the typical “Greater OC” Response….years of poor planning, using up collected donations for needless lunches, consultants and paid Junkets to Hawaii and Washington D.C. No thanks…..lets see the plans NOW! Not one dime for tribute…thanks.
