If you’re reading this, then New Year 2016 did actually make it to the Pacific Time Zone.
If you have resolutions that you really want to follow, please post them here. We’ll be your support group. You might be sorry, but that’s your problem!
This is also your Weekend Open Thread for the next week or so. Talk about that, and anything else you’d like, within reasonable bounds of decency, discretion, decorum, and deportment. (For some definitions of “reasonable.”)
Still getting used to being in the Twenty-First Century myself.
100 years ago today, Europe was smack in the middle of this:

There have been worse times, I suppose.
*Here is a great resolution: Next year start an Eight Team Play-off structure for the FBS/NCAA football mess. What a bunch of very boring games. You had to turn them off and flip over to Fox News and MSNBC for comic relief. Terrible match ups. The Stanford game was fun to watch…..beating the snot out of IOWA. The Clemson game was only fun because it was great to see Baker Mayfield do his best “I’m beaten Johnny Manzeil” look. Thank you Clemson. Too bad Clemson has to take the dive against Alabama……next week. Life is not fair. The Alabama game was a total mismatch…where was Ohio State? The Buckeyes would have beaten their butts….hard. The Vegas boyz are really playing games with the boyz around the pot bellied stove in Norman. The whole BCS concept wreeks… It should be plain and simple…..they need to divide the country into AAA-1, AAA-2, AAA-3 and AAA-4. areas.
East, West, North and South. Two teams come out of each area. The teams that are undefeated play other teams that are undefeated first – then teams with one loss and if necessary the best teams with 2 losses. They will eventually figure it out once they realize that no one is going to watch these stupid games…..like Penn State today against Georgia. How did either one of these teams get a late date game? Ridiculous!
OK, sounds like a good place to interrupt the important stuff for the token comment about reforming the Primary and Electoral College systems, perhaps losing CA its “ATM State” nickname ? Think we could hit up Al Gore for some funding ? lol. We now return to your regular programming……..
The TCU – Oregon debacle was soooooooooooo paid off.
For those who appreciate order in their lives.
YouTube suggested a slew of programs from Al Jazeera English called “Empire” – topics about Mideast conflicts of course but others including theUS economy and “Deep State” US government, etc. FWIW, if like me, other pursuits, like sleep, have displaced Sunday AM “pundit” shows. Also if you have a few hours to kill, anotherYT “suggestion” was a 5-part series called “Deep State Counter Intelligence”, again, FWIW. (Too many links to post, much less kill Vern with the work of posting all the screens! Just search YT)
Vern,
As a piano player, what’d be your favorite Natalie Cole’s piece?
Sorry, can’t remember anything she did, except her duet with her dad.
*Black girl singers have had it tough all along the way starting with Billie Holiday, Nina Simone …which might be a good movie to see…..Tina Turner and of course all the others that were in Girl Groups…..even Aretha and Donna Summers……Whitney Houston…also, Diana Ross…Mary Wells and of course Etta James. Quite a list of tragedies when you really look into it. Ella Fitzgerald didn’t even have it all that good either. We really loved Pearl Bailey, Dorothy Dandridge and only Diahann Carrol married white and made out in the end. Natalie had to ride daddies coat tails……Dionne Warwick got very lucky with Burt Bacharach and worked through several problems herself…until she got the Psychic Awareness Network and then became Ambassador to the United Nations of Global Food and Health issues.
*We should also mention that only Beyonce, who married Jay Z…..has seemingly kept it together…..good luck to her in the future….. indeed.
Obscure(d) fact: Tina Turner traded US citizenship for that of Switzerland.
I am VERY afraid at the speed and invisibility which pot laws are changing in America. I am fifty, smoked a lot of dope, not so much now. I am politically “liberal” but how can anyone who has raised high school aged kids in the 2000’s not argue we need to go SLOW.
Iam with Hovernor Brown on this. California does not need more “stoners” any more than ot needs more “drunks”. Lets begin a better dialouge.
I see the pro pot lobby as the NRA of this issue.
Marijuana is dangerous in the hands of fifteen year old, just like a gun or hit of speed. THINK PEOPLE. THINK.
Nice new rap/song against Poseidon by our friend Scott Keltic Knot. You can also see OJ contributor John Earl and Occupier Dylan Thompson in the beginning. Pick up your pitchforks and fight Poseidon – another good New Years Resolution! (This year we’ll have Jordan Brandman taking Harry Sidhu’s place on the OCWD rolling out the red carpet for the water pirates…)
Maybe they’re Water Pirates of the Caribbean.
