Good to hear from our blogger INGE after a couple years’ absence, and to hear that her health is okay and she is still working on a book. She asked us to post the following letter which she has just written to Governor Brown, in regards to his signing yesterday of the “assisted suicide” bill, SB 128:
Dear Governor Jerry Brown, I want to start by saying thank you for signing the “assisted suicide” bill. I’m sure you are getting a lot of flak from those who think only God can take a life. These “right-to-lifers” have no problem sticking their nose in other people’s business and pushing forcing their religious beliefs on others. I have a different take on this controversy.
I am a cancer survivor, however when I was going through treatment nothing was off the table and that included killing myself if my quality of life got bad enough, and I knew I would die anyway from the disease. It never occurred to me that I needed “permission” from you or any government body. If someone else thinks they do, that’s their choice.
If a patient wants to fight to the bitter end, that’s their choice. If I want to end my life because of a terminal illness, it’s my choice; not yours, not the governments, not my doctors, not my family. I didn’t need anyone’s permission to come into this world and I certainly don’t need permission to leave. It’s all about choice and my right to do what I want with my body.
Today I am healthy but if I get sick again and my quality of life is bad enough that I continuously suffer or need to be drugged up with narcotics to just survive, and I know this is as good as it gets, I will not ask my doctors to help me end my life. I will do it myself and I won’t ask for a permission slip.

Welcome, red-headed stranger. Keep on truckin’.
*Good work by DJB as usual. We truly have a wonderful Governor for the State of California…across the board. Here is a thought balloon for those who have a Partisan Fantasy player in the current Candidate mix. “Dr. Ben Carson: Firstly, what is your position on Big Pharma Drug Adverisements on Television?” “Why, do only the United
States and New Zealand allow such advertisiing? Thirdly, do you personally think it is ethical for doctors to take kick-backs for pushing certain prescription drubs? Do you think it is ethical to take Grant Money for Research from Big Pharma if they make it mandatory to proscribe their entire or partial drug line exclusively?” Just asking, Dr. Carson
