The elections were over months ago, but somebody in Irvine is still campaigning.
Irvine seems to have developed a permanent campaign. The slate mailer-cum-fake community newspaper, Irvine Community News and Views, has released two new issues since the last election.
The fall issues of ICN&V had this disclosure
Campaign filings reported that almost the entire cost was borne personally by Larry Agran. (I haven’t been able to verify who paid these recent distributions.)
Beyond slate mailers living on, zombie-like, as community publications, campaign-style signs have started appearing around town.
Again, I couldn’t find a campaign disclosure, so I don’t know who is behind the sign. (We’ll discuss the library issue in another post)
There is an obvious guess: Larry Agran. Mr. Agran was clear at his City Hall farewell reception last fall that he was staying involved in municipal politics, finishing his address with the quip, “My opponents should know that my parents lived into their 90s, and I am only 70.”
Does this mean we’ve got another 20 years of Larry! Woot!
Oh yes, clearly Larry Agran is putting up those signs to discredit a potential opponent for the 68th Assembly seat race this year if Don Wagner wins — IF by “Larry Agran” you mean “Jeffrey Lalloway.”
Hey, that’s Chimpanzeeski’s theory. I find it really hard to believe.
I know! Let’s confer with “Irvine Cares.”
It is? I don’t usually read him.
Whoever it is wants to attack Choi and overlook Lalloway. Either it’s Lalloway supporters or someone trying to instigate trouble between Lalloway and Choi. The latter seems more far-fetched.
According to the Big Chimp, Lalloway has said he’s not running for Assembly and had nothing to do with the signs – so there goes that conspiracy theory.
Assuming the Chimp is correct. When have you assumed that before?
I guess Mr. Lalloway made some sort of statement.
Good for him.
On the other hand, this could mean that it will be either Denis Bilodeau or Kris Murray.
Safer not to elect Wagner!
Hide-and-Seek Harry has already announced so that arrangement has been settled.
I wouldn’t worry too much about Bilodeau. Nobody would support him.
I suspect that Sidhu could be Pringle’s stalking horse for Murray. Sidhu runs and we chuckle. Murray runs and we scream.
That’s a possibility I didn’t think of: the library sign is about the 68th assembly race, not city council.
Fair enough.
But in that case, who is footing the non-trivial bill to keep Larry’s old slate mailer going? The most prominent new name to appear in the ICN&V is Carolyn Inmon , one of Larry Agran’s preferred school board candidates.
It could be (and I suspect is) two distinct phenomena. Keeping the paper ready just insulates them from criticism that it’s just a campaign-time stunt.
It is illegal to put up campaign signs at times not defined as an election cycle.
It’s just a campaign ‘style’ sign, but there’s probably an ordinance prohibiting that too.
If only campaign signs can be up now, I wonder if someone’s pretending that it had something to do with the 37th SD election.
Wonder if the City would take them down — or say they have to leave them up.
