Orange County Register Endorses Bao Nguyen for Mayor
Garden Grove, California – The Orange County Register Editorial Board endorsed Bao Nguyen’s campaign for Garden Grove Mayor today. The Register is Orange County’s largest and most trusted newspaper with a daily circulation of over 250,000.
From the editorial:
Three candidates are vying for the mayor’s seat in Garden Grove. The Register endorses Bao Nguyen, a trustee on the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education.
Mr. Nguyen’s election would represent a changing of the guard in the north Orange County city of more than 170,000 residents, which has been led by the same mayor for much of the past 20 years.
…
There is one thorny issue that particularly concerns the mayoral candidate, he told us. “Local government is known more for nepotism” than anything else.
He was referring to the controversy involving Garden Grove’s current mayor, whose son was hired as a city firefighter despite a criminal record, and who remains employed despite his life threatening mistakes on medical calls.
Garden Grove deserves better than such small-town governance. That’s why the Register believes Bao Nguyen the city’s best choice for mayor.
The full editorial endorsement can be read here.
Bao Nguyen currently represents over 90% of Garden Grove as a Trustee on the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education. On the School Board, Nguyen successfully led the adoption and implementation of the California State Seal of Biliteracy, an award that recognizes high school graduates for their high academic achievement in world languages in addition to English. Nguyen also serves on the Orange County Fair Board of Directors and is a member of the Commission on Ecumenical and Inter-religious Affairs of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange.
Born in a refugee camp, Nguyen arrived in the United States at three months of age. He holds a bachelor’s in Political Science from the University of California at Irvine, a master’s in Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies from Naropa University, and is trilingual in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
Go Bao!
Perhaps you are too excited about an endorsement from a newspaper that can’t even make home deliveries, has sold off its HQ real esate to free up cash, and seems to be otherwise in a death spiral.
No, it’s more the man-bites-dog story of this comforter-of-the-comfortable rag backing a real progressive underdog.
after this guy bit the dog, did he take it back to his restaurant and cook it
I’m sure that you didn’t mean that to come off as racist.
you’re a dick
No, no – they only did that stuff to further strengthen their strong financial position. Because it was already, you know, strong.
