President Obama claims that there will be “no boots on the ground”, if bombing Syria doesn’t turn out as planned — but how many of us really believe that? We were told by Bush that the war in Iraq would pay for itself and we would be out within a month. That came true. Right? Pundits who argue that we should strike Syria, say that if Congress is not willing to authorize a military strike, Obama has the power to do it anyway, even though 90% of the American public is against it. The only ones who are for this action, work for the “war machine”. It will be an early Christmas gift for them!
The United Nations warns that a strike by the U. S. without authorization by the Security Council will be illegal. Conservative estimates of the cost of military action, is $500 million — of our tax payer dollars! The cost of this war will be added to the already, over-the-limit credit card debt — which by the time you read this is nearing $17 trillion — that’s comes to $53,000 that each person in the U.S. is stuck paying. Congress is supposed to discuss raising the debt limit this month, as well. You and I already know they will raise it; after all, its not their money.
I propose that everyone, including Obama who votes to use military force, forfeit their paychecks and future pensions. They want to take action — then they should pay for it.
President Obama has decided that killing children with gas is worse than killing children with drones — something he himself ordered a few short months ago– to kill terrorists. Well, Mr. President both will end with the same results — dead children. The U.S. military dropped Agent Orange to flush out the Viet-Cong, hiding under the heavy vegetation back in the 60s, and Vietnamese children have been paying the price for decades… not to mention our own soldiers. He also claims that doing nothing will harm our own national security. How many times will he and other leaders (past, present and future) use that lame excuse? I am tired of listening to his lies. How about you?
This is all about regime change and he is willing to have Al Qaeda in charge, if it means getting rid of Assad… and if Al Qaeda decides to use those chemical weapons against us, “The Great Satan”… then we will just go back in and kill some more people. Its part of the never ending war plan. The military is now being run like a corporation — where their bottom line is number one. No war = no money and we can’t have that. Too many American jobs are at stake; 25 defense contractors are located here in Orange County.
I am sick and tired of hearing our representatives claim that we don’t have money for infrastructure, schools, the homeless and you-name-it — BUT we always have enough money to start wars! I called my representatives today and told them to vote no. I also signed this petition, which I urge you to do as well. Obama will be in Los Angeles this Monday, September 9th — an organized action is planned and you can find out more here .

Why not solve several problems at once? Drop a dummy bomb on Syria. What makes it a ‘dummy bomb’?
1) It is a hollow shell without explosives or detonator.
2) Obama and McCain are riding it and waving cowboy hats like Slim Pickens in the Movie “Dr. Strangelove”.
Problem(s) solved.
Your troubled? You have no idea why nine out of ten Americans don’t want to confront this evil?
It’s because we never really know what people who toss around empty platitudes like “confront real evil” really mean. That never really gets defined…not completely. And it invariably becomes open-ended. We’re tired of open-ended. Oh, and if you don’t think this could become open-ended, in spite of Obama’s fuzzy rhetoric, you don’t understand the intentions of those clamoring for war.
The British, through their elected representatives, got this right. Obama, on the other hand, has succumbed to blowhards like John McCain, a man wise enough to nominate a certifiably crazy half-term governor to be one step away from the button. Thanks God we have wise men like him guiding us.
Mr. Cantor, can you name just one VITAL interest we have in going it alone in a war in another Middle East country between Sunni Jihadists and Alawite jackboots? Can you tell us what “confronting real evil” actually looks like…in detail?
Really? And why is it that we choose to put some despots on notice and not others?
Your “consequences” in the Middle East have a nasty habit of spiraling out of control. But heaven forbid taking the time to evaluate all that in depth before acting.
There is more than one way to enforce the moral absolute of opposing the use of chemical weapons. For you, is unilaterally dropping bombs the only way?
We haven’t even BEGUN to attempt to create, cajole and convince a coalition into existence in opposition to Assad’s actions. George H. W. Bush knew the value in this. Where is the attempt…the ATTEMPT…to take the time to bring Russia and China on board, through the UN, to stand with the world community? Where is the leadership?
Macho bluster and empty platitudes…that’s all you guys know.
I can only go by what I see you write. “Blowing up his house” as a foreign policy solution really DOES pigeonhole you. Perhaps you should be a bit more circumspect before you bluster.
No, I take what you write and objectively evaluate it at face value. If you’re uncomfortable dealing with the implications of what you write, then don’t write it.
The last vestige of the warmongers…mocking, caricaturing and oversimplifying the hard work of creating a coalition to bring the world, not just the United States, in opposition to thugs like Assad. We used to have statesmen and leaders that valued that hard work. But that’s so 90s.
The United States is not the world. Yes, by all means, lets have the United States unilaterally bomb yet another country in the Middle East. We can deal with the consequences of our impulsiveness later.
I’m suggesting the APPROACH to dealing with Assad, not the solution. THAT gets worked out among the world’s leaders…not just the United States. It’s an approach that differs from “blow up his house.”
But I know you’re not so daft as to not know that’s what I’m saying.
*Anyone that has served in the Army or Marines has gone through CBR training. The photos we see of the victims in Syria are alarming but not for the reason that is considered. Water is never used on GAS Victims! Why you ask? CN and CS gas training….they put you into a virtual GAS Chamber….loaded with that gas. You have a gasmask. Your Sgt. comes over to you after about 10 minutes and asks that you remove the Gasmask. Once you do, suddenly every pour of your body that has been sweating, your lips, the back of your neck, everywhere you do not have covered become on fire – just the Ad on TV for Shingles. The difference is that your eyes turn immediately red, swell up or close….your eyes, ears and even your undershorts are on fire. You do not use water…it exasperates the pain, red rash, distress and misery index. Mustard Gas is not used….for training. Its immediate effects are severe skin blistering, severe rash and if exposed long enough….the skin falls off your body, face, hands and extremeties. Sarin Gas is a strict Nerve Agent. It attacks the Central Nervous System…..stops your heart and your body goes into convulsions, contorted, twisted unnatural formations and you die…….The bodies do not straighten out and become logs on guerneys. What is required before we attack anyone is to have CBR Experts and Medical Experts do the proper autopsies on the victims. We need firm testimony by Experts in this very structured field. Watching outrageous videos on folks without red rashes, without swollen eyes, without contorted dead bodies that are rigamortised………seems odd …at best.
anyone see John McCain caught playing poker on his Smartphone during what is supposed to be something important? Like authorizing war???? I would laugh if it weren’t so insane…do all these guys take their jobs as civil servants as serious as him and we are left paying the tab financially and otherwise?

4500 soldiers lost their lives looking for “weapons of mass destruction” that did not exist in Iraq… How many more of our young men are we willing to sacrifice, to participate in another “snipe” hunt?
Huh? Where did Ryan write any of that? Am I missing something?
Seriously, Inge, you need to be a little more careful about ascribing religious motivations to everyone that posts something you disagree with.
“Mean while, my knuckle dragging friends and I, all of whom deplore diplomacy and always react with violence, will drop exactly one bomb on his house, which clearly necessitates restarting the draft, sending poor minorities into Syria so we can teach them English and about Jesus.”
Now if that is not what Ryan intended…he needs to be more clear…it is harder when one is reading comments instead of in person where one can see facial expressions to see if one is being facetious.
That is just so obviously sarcasm…c’mon now.
actually I did not get the sarcasm, so I stand corrected on his one point. So for giggles…Ryan thinks if we drop a bomb on Assad’s house — that’s the end of it…. what if another country decides to do the same to Obama? Is that a declaration of war or considered to be only a lesson?
I think that the appropriate test would be more along the lines of this:
If we discovered credible evidence that Israel had used chemical weapons to attack people — white phosphorus, like napalm, doesn’t count, for reasons that I’ve never found totally clear — would we be willing to bomb them to uphold this norm?
I think upholding a norm against chemical weapons use is good — but if (as I expect) we’d answer that question “no,” then we’re clearly not primarily interested in upholding that norm.
And for the rebels are fighting for their right to religious freedom…translation… the right to practice their warped version of their religion which includes killing those who practice a different faith. They are not about freedom for anyone else except themselves. They are the true believers… anyone else is considered Satan and therefore can be killed.
Do you know anything about the Middle East and all the players? I talk with several families and ask lots of questions… all Muslim who live in my complex… all first generation Americans and they teach me a lot about the Middle East. Do you watch the news? Read the paper… from many different news sources to find out what is going on?
The Middle East is not America and my neighbors tell me since we don’t understand the culture we need to stay out of it… we only make things worse. Iraq and Afghanistan are a mess thanks to the USA. Not my words…theirs.

*So sorry Inge – we totally agree with you!
Obama continues to be Putin’s bitch.
How is that, skallywag? Because he’s attacking Putin’s murderous ally? Because he ridicules Putin as the “bored kid in the back of the class?” In what way is he Vlad’s bitch? Or do you just feel like a tough guy because you have the freedom to call our elected President, the Leader of the Free World, a “Bitch?” Well, knock yourself out tough guy. And/or tell us how you would be bigger and less bitchly than Barack.
One can always start by taking one’s grandkids to a shooting range.

Chemical weapons attack Washington doesn’t want to talk about
http://www.policymic.com/articles/62023/10-chemical-weapons-attacks-washington-doesn-t-want-you-to-talk-about
We should supply the most lethal arms and training to all sides in the conflict – so the bastards can kill each other in a more efficient and swift manner.
Hey Ryan, got any moral outrage left over for a comment like that?
That’s pretty much what Kissinger and others said in the 80’s as we helped both the Iranians and Iraqis kill a million of each other. “If there were only a way they could both lose.”
With Barbara Coe now getting cold in the grave, Skallywag is emerging as one of the OC’s greatest haters of millions of people.
Like nukes?
Say that too loud, skally, and you may get a greeting card from Mossad.
Whut yu talkin’ ’bout willis?
I am suggesting that the combatants in Syria go at each other in the most effective and efficient manner.
Go talk to the Israelis regarding their feelings about arming both sides. We’ll wait for you.
My plan is that once the combatants have demolished each other, we could then go pick up the weapons just laying around on the ground. What do you thunk?
I’m tempted to buy you a one-way ticket to Jerusalem so you can try to sell the Israelis on it.
Uh, can I borrow your car while you’re gone?
How’s this going to look when the hawks try to make a case for striking Iran in a couple of years? I expect this Syrian intervention to happen. Barely.
For the Russian perspective on Syria – I recommend The Voice of Russia:
“US strike on Syria to turn into a nuclear catastrophe – experts”
“Syria’s “chemical weapon” regularly dumped in US municipal water supply system”
“What US wants in Syria? High price of new world order”
“Syria crisis: chemical war on informational front”
“Preserving status quo in Syria is untenable, but there is no military solution – Van Rompey”
“Compared to Syrian biological weapons, sarin is nothing – official”
“Refusal to meet with Russian delegation demonstrates illegitimacy of US stand on Syria”
http://www.voiceofrussia.com
Is this some sort of segue from the “Putin’s bitch” thing? I’m not following.
Creepy-ass-hacker…step away from the hash pipe, Skally.
thank you Skally
*How come no one ever mentions the Neutron Bomb anymore? Isn’t the real answer?
Efficiently killing your fellow man……without a trial…….seems so frugal in a world of
limited resources. Napalm is too messy. Agent Orange is too slow. Depleted
Uranium takes to long to have those lasting effects manifest. Sarin Nerve Gas usually
only works well in a confined space….like on the Japanese train a few years ago.
Mustard Gas is to nasty to clean up all that blistered skin and bones. Nuclear devices
make little or no sense because they kill the area for 60 years….like in Japan.
Fukijima…sad. No, the Neutron Bomb sounds perfect. You kill millions and leave all
the buldings standing and ready to occupy after you clean up all the dead folks. How
come they don’t have UN approval for that technology?
Let’s just get a Doctor’s opinion first…what do you think?
Take two aspirin and call me in the morning.
Jon Stewart came up with a great line…” The Super Power really believes he has ‘super powers’ and keeps jumping from the same tall building …getting the same result”.
And, I believe we can stop claiming that we are the “Land of the Free”… the NSA put an end to that.
How much napalm and Agent Orange have we dumped on human beings? Just asking.
Technically, I think that the Agent Orange was dumped on foliage. It just stayed around for the human beings to enjoy its benefits.
*Dumped on foilage……yes. This is where the famous quote came from: “Did you get any on you?”
Good question. We’re quite adept at enforcing norms when it suits us, and ignoring them when it doesn’t.
So enforcing them, unilaterally, in the Middle East has some sort of special credibility attached to it? I think not.
The United States is not the world.
Remember paraquat?
this might be the real reason, Britain backed out…. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/revealed-britain-sold-nerve-gas-2242520
*What happened…….they stopped using drones for family outings?
I’m feeling guilty just floating around here being snarky and not taking a position. I am cautiously supportive of our President’s (mysterious) plan to punish Assad for the chemical attack without embroiling us in something unthinkable, and hurting lotsa innocents. If it turns out I’m a fool – well there you go – won’t be the first time. But our President has a good track record.
Good track record. You mean like when he decided to send 30,000 more troops in the quagmire known as Afghanistan upon taking office?
I’m in favor of enforcing the norm, but not by bombing them unilaterally. (Dropping other shit on them would be OK. Leaflets, especially.)
But I want it to be really, really clear that Assad’s regime DID really do it — ideally enough for even Double Eye to agree (although may be an impossible standard.)
If we DO bomb, though, the bombing should be of Hizbollah.
Bernie Sanders weighs in…
“Assad’s regime DID really do it”
Umm, O.k. Greg. If you say so.
I knew that you were connected Greg,
but are you like Bilderberg connected?
Are you a John Kerry NWO puppet that knows exactly how this is all going to turn out?
Please do tell!
The funny thing is that if Obama were blaming the attack on the Syrian rebels, you would be arguing that anyone who isn’t an idiot would know that it was the Assad regime.
There’s one constant in your conspiracy theories: the government’s side is wrong. That predictability makes those theories much less compelling — even though the government is often wrong.
I don’t accuse you openly of being a CIA-funded agent provocateur paid to keep the Left chasing its own tail, so please do me the kindness of not accusing me of being part of some (Jewish-themed, of course) international conspiracy.
Obama is on his Knees, praying to God that Congress votes against him so that he doesn’t end up looking like the world’s greatest puppet jerk trying to instigate World War 3 for the NEW WORLD ORDER D-Bags.
I forgot to provide this morning’s headlines.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/
So we pray? One wonderful solution was the la broadcast of a Persian comedian to those watching in Iran. But of course we noticed those on their knees in Cairo responding to radio determining political directions. However, pol pot already stepped down and passed on, so there is no radical Quaker reason to keep those bullying for justice for the Khmer rouge still in govt. Responsibilities over radio when neurologists are the ones who can tap knees and make good guesses. What if it were possible to just ship ALL presidential kids and grandkids to camp David to cool it, as far as our concerns? The block of radical Quakers turned quacker would listen if Nelson Mandela asked them to step down,go figure. Rather than militancy, since the ayatollah blocked the signals to tehran, then could people replace radio broadcasts in Syria with alternatives?
*The Congress Votes Down Military Attacks on Syria. The President implements a toothless Embargo of goods to Syria, which Brazil, Russia, India and China work around without a thought. The President then makes a Proclamation of Hostilities against the Government of Syria. The President warns Assad that any future Chemical, Biological or Radiological attacks on his own people or others will be met with a military response of undetermined duration, targets or end.
What’s the worse that happens? Assad takes him up on it. But then, we will have the
unimpeachable moral ground – that we do not have now.
Asma and Bashar al-Assad — a match made in hell
Hauntingly beautiful Asma was an investment banker at J.P. Morgan when she met the Syrian president, who was then training in London to be an eye surgeon.
Now, people around the world wonder how a woman born in the United Kingdom, with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and French literature, could post Instagram photographs of her charity work while her husband’s regime uses chemical gas to asphyxiate children.

So which child screams louder?
The one who dies from being gassed with Sarin, or the one who dies from a building falling on her from an explosion inflicted by a drone ?
Dead is dead.
Spare me the moral outrage.

Syria: Nobel Peace Laureate Tells Her Account of What She Witnessed
Sarin, or GB, is an organophosphorus compound with the formula [(CH3)2CHO]CH3P(O)F. It is a colorless, odorless liquid,[4] used as a chemical weapon owing to its extreme potency as a nerve agent. It has been classified as a weapon of mass destruction[5] in UN Resolution 687. Production and stockpiling of sarin was outlawed by the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993 where it is classified as a Schedule 1 substance.
Even at very low concentrations, sarin can be fatal within one minute after direct ingestion of a lethal dose, due to suffocation from lung muscle paralysis, unless some antidotes, typically atropine or Biperiden and pralidoxime, are quickly administered to a person.[4] People who absorb a non-lethal dose, but do not receive immediate medical treatment, may suffer permanent neurological damage.

2nd try – I guess DIY ’embed’ is my FAIL. I’ll go back to ‘share’ sorry-
Oh — all right: I’ll make it this week’s Weekend Open Thread.
Probably your problem, Box … AND PAY ATTENTION THE REST OF YOU, I ONLY FIX UP YOUR YOUTUBES IF I’M IN A GOOD MOOD….
I bet you put up the embed code … but it was the shorter, new-fangled embed code, like one line of code starting with “iframe?” For some reason that doesn’t work on this blog. Look for the option of using the older, longer embed code. That works like a charm here.
So everybody. See a youtube you wanna share here? Click share, click embed, go down to where a mess of code is highlighted, and MAKE SURE IT’S THE BIG, OLD-SCHOOL MESS OF CODE, starting with
Sorry- I picked the wrong week for multi screw up-s practice makes perfect? (is ‘old’ code always included, or are we SOL if only ‘new’ one?) Re: e.m., I did it to a USB drive and sent ‘on the run’ from elsewhere- might have wrong source(?), but has ‘big box’ in subject- tell me if no go, I’ll resend. (Glad you’re STILL in a good mood!(?)). I hope there is a successful turnout at the SA rally today!
Errrr … something just broke our column structure here, boss. Maybe undo it? It’s already scheduled to be this week’s WOT.
See, I TOLD you that Obama is Putin’s bitch.
The voices are lying to you again, skally.
