Stupid Candidate Tricks: Gary DeLong Denies Science of Climate Change. On video.

Cambodia flooding, Nov. 2011, from NASA

CA-47, where Gary DeLong is challenging Alan Lowenthal, has an especially large population of Cambodians and Vietnamese.  (This NASA photo shows flooding in Cambodia in Nov. 2011.)  Lowenthal believes that climate change, which threatens both of these countries (as well as Orange County) is real and demands U.S. response. DeLong denies that there is clear scientific evidence for it.

Well, it’s not like Long Beach’s Belmont Shore is near the water anyway ….

Yep, seriously: here is CA-47 candidate Gary DeLong — AND NOT AN ACTOR PRETENDING TO BE HIM — denying the scientific evidence on climate change at a public forum:

This guy wants to be a legislator, sent from an educated and scientifically advanced state, of the most powerful country in the world. By Grapthar’s Hammer, this dude is teh dumb!

By the way: Cambodians in Long Beach — I know that those in your home country are extremely concerned about rising sea levels flooding your coastal areas; you should understand that Gary DeLong thinks that you’re just overreacting. Vietnamese here in OC — you have some coastal areas of your own that you’re concerned about, don’t you? This guy’s going to let the problem get worse. Amazing. Look for Vietnamese language ads to come out against him soon. The rest of the world outside of his district — including, say, Seal, Huntington, Newport and Laguna Beaches — can’t be quite as unconcerned as he can.

For those of you who are keeping track, this means that this one below is now only the second-most embarrassing Gary DeLong video of the year.

(That’s the video where he grabs away a woman’s cell phone for taking video after a candidate forum had ended.  DeLong’s staff start going berserk on her at a little after the 4:40 point in the video, when he is asked a question about Prop 30, and call a cop to remove her.  Hilarity ensues.  If you haven’t heard the whole thing, the antics by these adults in Gary DeLong’s employ are amazing.  Embarrassing, even — one would think.  But still not as bad as denial of climate change!)

About Greg Diamond

Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that. Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too. He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.) His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
