A year after the Egyptian uprising began, I take a look with this Orange County Weekly cover story at how the Arab Spring has swept through OC at a time when Arab-Americans are seeking to officially designate ‘Little Arabia‘ in Anaheim. The subtitle asks, “Can one of the country’s largest Middle Eastern neighborhoods patch up its rivalries to become OC’s next famous ethnic enclave?” See what local property owners, politicians, restaurant chefsand a younger generation of activists have to say.
The story is online and on newsstands now. For those of you outside the Weekly’s OC/LBC distribution area, click the following link and share your thoughts there:

Good writing on a good topic, GSR, and congrats on the new gig!
Thanks Greg. I’ve been contributing to OCW for years now, though, and will being doing more so in 2012.
Oh. I thought that Gustavo represented you as a newcomer to OC Weekly when he Facebooked this; I guess that either I didn’t read or he didn’t write precisely enough.
He and I co-wrote a cover story on the Black Panthers in Santa Ana before. This piece, however, is my first cover w/ a solo byline.
So we should be celebrating the superstardom of someone who started out at the OJ!
Oh wait. Do I have my chronology wrong?
Fun piece though. I feel like I know all those people. Oh yeah, I do.
Sounds like a bunch of terrorists to me…
Open up shop, Bushala! I learned the right way of scooping hummus from you. Vern couldn’t get it, but I mastered it! haha.
Basterd jeehadists…
I have a feeling that Anaheim may become the West Coast Equivalent of Dearborn, Michigan by hearing this news.
Anaheim is big; its Arabia is little.
Yeah! Little Arabia. I cannot wait to eat kinafeh!
