I just realized, since I’ve been spending my own money keeping this blog going since I took it over from Art, I shouldn’t be so hesitant to promote my concerts here. Plus, this explains why I haven’t been doing so many stories the last couple weeks – I’ve been preparing for this!
So, if you like the Orange Juice Blog AND great music, you should come to the Huntington Beach Central Library this Friday night at 7, and hear Editor-in-Chief Vern play:
- Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition
- Four Chopin Polonaises, alternating with:
- Songs by the brilliant revolutionary Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez
- some jazz pieces by John Coltrane
- and a time set aside for YOUR REQUESTS!
If you want, when you’re there, you can get one of my new CD’s I just finished, of the first half of Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, played on a cool variety of Korg Triton sounds. Here’s the cover illustration my son Dorian just completed:
Afterwards, we can all argue about politics, and you can be glad you helped support this invaluable forum for open debate in Orange County (server fees, business license, laptop repair, etc…)
Having heard Vern play live, I would encourage all who can make it to witness his extraordinary talent. Good luck Vern.
See, Newbie’s a mensch. That’s why I’m patient with him when he spouts right-wing talking points.
Ditto for you Vern. I’m always happy to give credit where it’s deserved, crazy liberal, crazy conservative, or anything in between, and man can you tickle those ivories.
Brother Vern.
Not only did Newbie hear you perform his entire family hung out while we “encouraged” the city to open the Norman P Murray Center after you made two trips to our city in order to play our multi color piano.
On your second trip to Mission Viejo you arrived when the building was scheduled to be open yet the doors were locked. I apologize, on behalf of our city staff, for any inconvenience you encountered.
Vern While we do not agree on many fronts I will agree with Newbie that you surely know how to play a wide variety of tunes without the need of a teleprompter or sheet music.
Oh yes, that’s right. I erased all the traumatic parts of that night out of my mind.
Vern, I have heard nothing but great things about your concerts and wish that I could attend. I have five teenagers all in sports which tends to limit my discretionary time.
Without the baritone Stanislav you will raise diddly squat. Behold….
Haha! A classic for all the ages!
Vern, have you ever considered getting a pay pal button or doing semi-annual fundraisers on-line?
I’d like to be able to donate in case I can’t make the concert.
What a rich and creamy center of luscious music. My cerebrum is full of all the art and poetry and random eccentric gestures…Vern, you are a quirky savant Renaissance man! I don’t know how all that music fits in your head.
“Savant” sounds about right.
Ahhh, but the savant is usually expert at only one thing. Your plentiful talents belie that particular
characterization.
Missed the show, but want the CD. Catch you at the next performance!
