So, Jerry Brown is pushing a “cap and trade” deal in order to continue the fight against “Global Warming”.
HUH??? I remember a time when California was considered “trend-setting”, “cutting edge”….maybe I was just dreaming…
Evidently unable to get out of “stuck on stupid” mode, Governor-elect Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown continues to blindly worship at the “Global Warming” altar; never mind that Liberals don’t even call it “Global Warming” anymore, preferring the throw-everything-against-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks “Global Climate Change” drivel.
Don’t Californians remember the news about all the falsified “Global Warming” data, which has fundamentally laid Global Warming to waste?
Or, more locally, don’t Californians remember the San Francisco Chronicle (bastion of Conservative thought…..NOT), where the fact that the deeply-respected Air Resources Board “overestimated” pollution levels by a whopping 340% was reported (no particular stranger to dubious findings, this supposed error came after the same board also found a death rate of 18,000 per year from particulate matter…a number later cut in half when it was discovered that the person responsible for the report had falsified his credentials…).
But, no, Californians have very short memories, as evidenced by the fact that they re-elected Brown. And, it must be assumed, Global Warming fanatics continue to get mileage (mostly out of politicians, since the public has largely abandoned the myth) out of Global Warming fear-mongering.
So….it’ll be “IN” with cap ‘n trade and “OUT” with more businesses.
Royko was right….California IS “the world’s largest outdoor mental asylum” (the guy who coined Brown “Governor Moonbeam”, went on to say, “…if it babbles and its eyeballs are glazed, it probably comes from California.”
Oh dear god. A Global Warming denier…
Cap and Trade is a sham, but for none of the reasons you cite.
To be clear (because you rightly point out a critical aspect of the “Global Warming” issue): I don’t deny that global climate change happens. In fact, this has been sufficiently proven (as far as I’m concerned). But, with regard to THIS particular issue, I do not believe that “Global Warming”, as we know it today, is anthropogenic. In the whole of the scientific body, the jury, ultimately, is out. (The fact that the argument has been changed to “Global Climate Change” reflects the fact that GW proponents are aware that we are currently in a cooling cycle).
Ok — with your “nuanced” view, you have placed yourself outside the bounds of an overwhelming scientific consensus on anthropogenic global warming.
Congratulations. Smoking cigarettes doesn’t cause cancer either I suppose!
There’s nothing nuanced about Hirota’s view – he’s simply stating what many many scientists are (including a not-so-insignifcant number who used to be IPCC Kool Aid drinkers) – that global warming is not man-made, but instead is a naturally-occurring trend we have seen over the life of this great planet – much to Mr. Hockeystick’s chagrin (that darn Medieval Warming Period just won’t go away).
And since you’re advancing the tired claim that anthropogenic global warming “deniers” are outside of the “overwhelming scientific consensus,” you haven’t been reading up on Climategate, or even the ever-increasing number of scientists questioning the science of global warming advanced by government-funded scientists and the mainstream media.
Climate change is a natural phenomenon – lot of evidence for changes in climate over the millenia including times when SUVs didn’t exist. The idea that man has the power to make significant changes in the Earth’s climate is the height of arrogance. The Earth is a remarkably self-regulating system that’s more than capable of offsetting anything we might do.
The denial of humanity’s responsibility for destroying intricate balances in the ecosystem that sustains life is the true apex of arrogance.
Yes, the Earth will survive us and our stupidity. But the vapid ignorance of global warming denial will author a significant extinction of our species. Despite all our faults…I’d like us to stay in an inhabitable climate.
Ever notice how instances of “conservatives'” skepticism toward science are always aligned with whatever’s profitable for polluting and otherwise dangerous industries? Funny that. It never fails. You could set your clock by it. Uncanny.
Not only that, global warming deniers are capable of ascribing a ‘profit motive’ to the scientific community but are seemingly incapable of doing so when it comes to Petro company funded spin!
Now, who stands to profit more???
While you answer that, let me light up another cancerless cig!
Psychologists call it “projection”, Vern. This is when a person (in this case, Liberals in general) sees his own faults in others.
You speak of conservatives skepticism toward science being always aligned with whatever’s profitable for polluting…..yadda yadda….
In fact, Liberals are notorious for this, except they do it not only for profit but also ideology. Examples? Sure:
– Embryonic stem cell research (ideology and profit). Any cures so far?
– How much has Al Gore made from his carbon credits company? (profit)
– The theory of speciation in Darwin’s general theory (ideology)
– Abortion (ideology)
While I won’t take the time to examine these individually, I would be MORE than happy to at your (or other folks’) request…..
So, a more accurate statement, based on yours, would be:
Ever notice how instances of Liberal manipulation and misrepresentation of science are always aligned with whatever’s profitable or ideologically expedient? Funny that. It never fails. You could set your clock by it. Uncanny.
Cheers!
Hirota: out!
Hirota,
Let’s not forget Gore’s stunning recent admission that he advanced the ethanol fuel scam simply to get votes in the election. If he’s done that for one bogus “green” program, it’s not hard to imagine him doing it for the far more profitable (to him at least) global warming scam.
As you correctly note, no ideology is beyond being bought by the liberals.
Etnanol is ALWAYS a scam, and always used to get votes from the cornhusker states. Gore said what now? When did he last run for something? Is this him admitting to doing back in 2000 what hundreds of Republican and Democrats have done for decades? How honest of him to admit that now. And how typical to turn that around to try to queer his more recent, non-political work on climate change.
Or do I have that all wrong? A link, please?
Really Vern?? The fact that Al Gore won a Nobel Prize and then made a billion dollars in profits from his “green” endeavors is probably an inconvenient truth for liberals. If you look at the Endangered Species Act, renewable energy or global warming – all of them are highly government subsidized, highly profitable business based on the non-existent “science” of homeogenic caused global warming. Liberals have profited from misuse of science to a large degree.
Hey Hirota……go read a book……Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed, by Jared M. Diamond.
Just looking at economic devastation in Montana for the last fifty years is incredibly eye-opening. Easter Island used to be a tropical paradise. Until they chopped down that last tree.
Interestingly enough…..you might like this…..Japan has had a top down environmentalist policy for the last 400 years . Resulting in one of the largest industrialized heavily populated countries surrounded by pristine environments.
Open your brain a little bit……
Oh, I’ve read books, gericault. Started with “Unstoppable Global Warming Every 1500 Years” (http://www.amazon.com/Unstoppable-Global-Warming-Every-Years/dp/0742551172).
But, let’s talk for a second about the necessity to be careful of unintended consequences….
One of Liberals’ pet loves is hydrogen fueled vehicles. Proclaiming that they emit only water vapor as exhaust, you folks feel that this is CLEARLY the wave of the future and one of the best “fixes” to Global Warming. Fair enough.
While I, as a Conservative, wholeheartedly believe that hydrogen-based solutions should be part of the balanced portfolio of energy, too-heavy a reliance on it would be a mistake. Why?
Consider: What you may have noticed in MOST of the GW studies is the fact that water vapor is excluded (or at best drastically minimized) as a greenhouse gas. In fact, water vapor comprises the largest portion of greenhouse gases (estimates up to 95%+).
btw, here’s a link to one of those studies:
http://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils/greenhouse_data.html
Therefore, reliance on a vehicle system which produces greater concentrations of the largest portion of greenhouse gases would have an opposite effect to the one intended.
So, gericault, reading books isn’t enough. One must be able to understand them as well.
It’s like Reagan stated: A Liberal is someone who’s read Marx. A Conservative is someone who understands Marx.
Thanks for the comments….
Hirota: out!
Oh….and jsut so everyone understands….
when I don’t post replies, It isn’t because I’m ignoring you….it’s just because I often have a very difficult time getting in front of a computer (and I’m WAYYYYYYYYY to technologically backward to navigate through my cell phone…sorry)
Global Bedwetting, The Tooth Fairy and Molly Ivins……… and the answer is:
“We need the rain…!”
We love Jerry….but there is no way he can really believe in Al Gore…can he?
