Well, they went and did it.

Dayum!
At last night’s meeting the Fullerton City Council elected Ol’ Doc HeeHaw to be the political figurehead who leads Fullerton into the Teens. We have already gloated over the endless comedic possibilities this situation will afford council watchers and mean bloggers.

Huntington Beach did the same on Monday – picked the very goofiest guy on our 7-member council to be Mayor – that’s Joe Carchio. And it wasn’t even his turn but hardcore rightwinger Don Hansen’s.
Everybody on the dais and in the audience knew what the reason was for the switcheroo, and everyone was too polite to mention it – Hansen wants to be Mayor in 2012 instead when he’s planning to run for Supervisor. Don’t tell him, but I foresee a lawsuit to prevent him from using Mayor as his designation. They did that to Debbie Cook in 2008, and failed because Mayor WAS her principle occupation at the time. This is not, and will not be the case with Don.
Let’s see what else…
Right – Moorlach is termed out as Supervisor and will be running to take over termed-out Tom Harman’s State Senate seat. Hansen, termed out on the HB Council, will be running for Moorlach’s seat. And Devin Dwyer, HB Councilman and bigtime OCGOP contributor, will be trying for termed-out Assemblyman Jim Silva’s seat. (I’d rather have former Supervisor Silva get back his seat than see Hansen in there.)
How’s all that for musical chairs?
Oh, and having managed to get two pro-public / pro-environment candidates on this year with Joe Shaw and Connie Boardman, we’re going to go for a majority in 2012 with Blair Farley and Jill Hardy!
Geez, Vern why not write yer own post on HB?
Eh – got carried away. Doc Heehaw reminded me of Carchio. And then I couldn’t stop.
