The California Republican Party appears to be finished, as general election results indicate that, despite a huge national backlash against President Barack Obama and House Democrats, the GOP utterly failed in California.
The Democrats won every single statewide race. They beat Meg Whitman. They beat Carly Fiorina. And they beat the heck out of all the other lame Republicans, including Abel Maldonado, Mike Villines, Mimi Walters and Damon Dunn. Adios Republicanos!
Red County editor Matt Cunningham is crowing today on Facebook about the victory of Marco Rubio in Florida’s Senate race. That victory should be no surprise. Rubio is Cuban and the Cuban vote still matters in Florida. There are few Cubans to save the GOP here in California.
It seems as if the California Republicans have no clue as to the demographics in our state. How could Whitman retain Pete “187” Wilson as her Campaign chair and expect that to work out? How could she fire her immigrant maid, and publicly oppose the Dream Act, and expect that to help her get Latino votes?
Of course Cunningham and the Red County bloggers did pretty well in this election. Their candidates lost but they made a fortune off of Whitman.
But now Cunningham and company are bleakly having to deal with the fact that California is a very blue state indeed.
I heard Cunningham’s amigo, Jon Fleischman, bragging on NPR yesterday that redistricting will save the California Republican Party. No it won’t. The people of California have utterly rejected the CA GOP and will continue to do so.
Maybe Cunningham and Fleischman and company need to rethink their strategy of bashing immigrants and gays? It isn’t working for you red-faced boys!
I think there are still a lot of people in our state who support moderate to conservative fiscal policies, but they are not going to support hater Republicans, period. And, as we saw in the passage of Prop. 25 and Prop. 23, California voters support green policies and are mad at how the state legislators always fail to deliver a budget on time. But they also voted for Prop. 26, making it harder for our legislators to raise our fees. Talk about a balanced electorate!
I don’t see a way out for the California Republican Party. They just don’t get it. Here in Orange County they allowed a very decent Latino Republican, Thomas “Hoagy” Holguin, to lose in his Anaheim Council race, and now they have NO ONE in place to even try to win the area Assembly and State Senate seats. The red cupboard is bare. Oh they will try again with Van Tran and his Trannies, but Latino voters ought to wake up in 2012, as it is a presidential election year, and nullify them altogether.
And Democrats did very well in local races. You can read a good recap of their success at this link. In an election that saw the Democrats get their butts kicked nationally, they prevailed in some very Republican areas, including the CAPO school district and Dana Point of all places.
None of this is to say that the Democrats have a lot to brag about either, but overall they are doing better than the Republicans. They should however look at how they are handling Latino voters as well. We saw a very low turnout in Santa Ana on Tuesday. That should worry the DPOC.
Overall, decline to state voters now make up 20% of the statewide electorate. The Republicans are down to 31%. Before long I expect to see more DTS voters in California than Republicans.
I think it is too late to save the CA GOP, which is ironic because they just might boot Obama in 2012, if they can avoid nominating a nutter like Sarah Palin. It will be their last hurrah. By 2016, Latino voters will ensure the death of the national GOP as well.
It would be just wonderful if California would secede; imagine not being f*ked over by a Federal Senate in which 40% of it is chosen by 10% of the population. No more Dakotas with their 4 senators; no more Wyoming, Utah, Alabama, Mississippi, et.al. No more Texas, too, which would be a real bonus.
Uhhh your ignorance is amazing… I think that is why we have a popular vote in the House, where CA gets 50+ seats and Idaho gets 2….But dont worry we will soon be needing the Feds to bail our Bankrupt asses out. (Note, Meg would do nothing to help the situation we are screwed either way)
The point was about the senate, with 6 year seats. Every two years is not so awful.
Will Michael Steele and the establishment Republicans in DC come to Ron Nehring’s defense or rescue? How about Scott Baugh? Jane Barnett (LA County GOP Chair)? I think not, but stranger things have happened. The continuation of any of these three in their current positions will speak volumes as to the Party’s long-term viability in California. Van Tran and Star Parker deserved better.
What a miserable showing. A national embarrassment. A clusterf*ck.
If the GOP and Steele don’t prioritize the re-staffing and rebuilding of the CRP, then they’ve written it off, and our State as well. It’s that simple.
Scott Baugh to the rescue? Scott can’t even win races for the Hansenites in Huntington Beach. Although with Republicans, it’s not really about winning. It’s about making money. Don Hansen’s Red Zone strategies milked DelGleize and O’Connell of their money, but didn’t help them win.
Enjoy your moment Art. As Mark Twain said “Tales of my demise are greatly exaggerated.” The Grand Old Party will be back just fine in California as soon as the rest of the Country, now safely “red,” makes an economic recovery and businesses continue to flee a mismanaged California. Let’s talk in a couple of years (if it even takes that long).
The economy is growing, albeit slowly, and that reality predates the GOP takeover of the House. Sane people know this. If the economy continues to grow and unemployment goes down to about 7%, it’s Barack Obama who will get the credit…not Republican do-nothings in the House of Representatives.
For a historical precedent, revisit unemployment rates during Reagan’s first term and his re-election in 1984.
“The economy is growing, albeit slowly” True, if you view slowly as in the transition from the Crustaceous to the Jurassic.
Nice metaphor…but meaningless. Not to mention divorced from reality.
Cretaceous?
Either way the Jurassic came first.
Crustaceous the geologic Era in which the OC repuglican dinosaurs and their lackey publicists in the MSM were traumatized by global warming – while the nimble little blog critters ran gonzo amok.
Evidently it was really late when I posted that last night. It should have been “as slow as the transition from the Jurassic to the Cretaceous.” Point being that claiming “slow improvement” in the economy would have been better phrased as “barely perceptible” improvement that if if continues at the current rate, the economy will be fully healthy by 2078.
The stock market in March 2009 was 6,600. It’s now up to 11,300. At that “barely perciptible” rate of recovery, let’s see…we should be back to pre-crash highs in a couple years.
Get some balance and perspective, Mr. Willis. You can pretend that the sky is falling all you want, but it ain’t. As far as jobs go, job recovery has always, ALWAYS, been a lagging indicator. Losing that many jobs is not something we can recover from in a couple years.
anon,
Deportations have doubled under Obama. That I find unforgivable.
And yet he’s supposed to be the second coming of Karl Marx. That I find laughable.
GW YOU ARE SO RIGHT ..this state is dead its run by unions , what are they gonna do when there are no more tax payers .. its a nanny state and a handout state and the hispanics WHO CAN VOTE like democrats because they give them handouts .. but when it goes dry and IT WILL . i saw a report today by 2015 almost 100 % of the taxes in o c alone will go to pay for the public employee pensions . just think what los angeles will be like .. adios california you and new york can be the only blue state in the union . while the rest of the country moves foward cali will be far behind as it keeps its socialist agenda and keep putting the same people that got them into this mess into power . they have no clue . look what is going on in france and spain , all socialist country coming to calif soon .
Any authority for this blathering selection of Fox talking points?
I’m sure we can join with NY and ahve an outstanding country. No more red states sucking federal money up and then voting Republican. Win/Win.
Were you listening to John and Ken TGO???
Yes, I think they said 85% in Orange County and 125% in LA???
Crazy ah?????
None of this is going to last, we just need to sit back and wait for the collapse!
Look at the idiot judge who halted the free childcare to the supposed working poor (illegal immigrants) I love the picture in the LA times running this story with the picture of a white woman and her child….Most of the subsidized childcare goes directly to hispanic families and that is a fact!
If the Healthy Families commission in this state would use prop 10 funds right; we could all have free childcare! But instead they fund stupid programs like La Habla (teaching spanish parents to converse more with their kids in spanish) stupid, stupid! Or giving money to Not supposed to make profits like MOMS, Latino access etc….. Millions of dollars going to serve the underserved and the hispanic socialized population!!!!?????
No wonder they came out in force to vote, they did not want to lose their freebee’s!
Pretty pathetic excuse to vote!
Quimby’s got a point. I was at Hansen’s kickoff breakfast at the Hilton. Baugh was there with his kid (as was Jim Silva who’d just gotten up and the ugliest and worst public servant in the County, Cathy Green). They talked a great game, but got beat by the local tree huggers and swamp supporters.
Joe Shaw is on the cusp (in more ways than one), so a few absentees coming in for DelGleize could give her the seat.
A couple of thoughts Pedroza:
1) GOOD JOB- It takes a huge set of nards to run for office; To stand up for what you believe in. Something you would NEVER see from the critical bedroom bloggers at the LOC and Red County. Hold your head high, and keep fighting.
2) WHERE’S MATT – Jubal has been largely absent lately, too the point where I though Chip Hanlon realized that the bag of goods he bought was well……just that. Matt has long crowed about Rubio, but that guy lives 3,000 miles away and in a VERY DIFFERENT political climate. It’s easy for him to grab on to that, but what does Matt “JUBAL” Cunningham and Chip Hanlon have to say about Brown, harris and Newsom???? Aparently Nothing. LOSERS! But they’ll still take you money!
Speaking of money, I have long suspected that Matt and Dan C. have been working together behind the scenes. Both are phony “PR” guys working out of their house althewhile trying to live off thier old ladies. Good thing they have only been able to breed females. That will make STRONGER women, becoause the example set forth by these two is weak men are cool too.
3) Has anyone bothered to notice that the GOP majority is less (significantly) than that held by democrats recently. Granted a majority is a majority but people like the Greatone and Geoof should take note.
OK thats enough for me. I am staying put in Santa Ana, with or without Pulido.
I REFUSE TO ABANDON THE KIDS AT EL SOL LIKE CLAUDIO, MIGUEL PULIDO, LOU CORREA, BILL GEE, JANE LAGUNA, CYNTHIA CRIOLLIS, and countless other english speakers, who burned the masses for they’re own kids benefit.
RESPONSIBLE PARENTING BEGINS AT HOME. If you don’t like Santa Ana schools don’t live here, but if you like it here FIGHT FOR CHANGE. Otherwise….move to Irvine.
How’s that for a Thursday rant!
That was an awesome rant indeed! Well said!
“If you don’t like Santa Ana schools don’t live here, but if you like it here FIGHT FOR CHANGE. Otherwise….move to Irvine.”
@KenLaysNotDead. As an Irvine resident, I found that funny and true! Too bad Chumpalewski kisses the butts of the Agran Empire, cuts and pastes their press releases and calls it “blogging.” With all due respect, Irvine has some pretty good schools despite my misgiving of what passes off for “drug education.” IUSD uses the failed D.A.R.E. program and some colleagues of mine (IUSD parents and members of Drug Policy Alliance) will be lobbying the IUSD for a change that in that curriculum very soon at a future school board meeting.
As far as our City Council goes, I don’t know much about Santa Ana poltics outside of what I read here. As far as Irvine goes (since I do live there), it baffles me why someone in Irvine doesn’t take Boss Agran to task about the no bid contracts given out his political cronies for the Great Park. Instead, he’d rather distract us with orange balloon rides. While I enjoy a hot air balloon ride as much as the next person, I think that is alll we’ve been fed for years: hot air. Wasn’t this park supposed to be completed in….wait, let me think……2005!!!?????
It’s easy to sit behind a laptop at Starbucks with WiFi access while sipping on a grande iced latte and tell the world how “knowledgable” you are about affairs in places where you don’t live. “Lap Band Dan” Chumpalewski does it all of the time with Santa Ana (it’s actually hit pieces spewing his vendetta toward our friend Art)and brags about his local awards while making apologies for Boss Agran and his Agranista machine. For $10 dollars, I can go down to Office Depot, buy some fancy looking paper, load the copier and present myself with awards that deems me “People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive.” Whoopdedoo! Talk to me when you’ve rubbed elbows with international news organizations like NTV (Japan) and Al Jazeera English. Organizations that report real news, not the cut and paste “journalism” the Irvine and Long Beach based reporters at the FibOC call “blogging”
keynlay what are you going to do when your party runs the state into b/k . are you going to blame bushy . calif is a mess because of the far left, unions, and people with your thinking , you and your union loving pals love others money = aka the tax payers , yes they will move out and then who are you going to collect taxes from .. calif was smoking the stuff prop 19 was trying to pass . the rest of the nation got it right .
Greatone,
Lets be clear, the left is a vehicle that unions use to further thier agenda. Just look at the LOC site!
While many (maybe most) union members vote Dem, there are plenty of right leaning members of unions (read: cops and fire personel). So in response, I’d say Unions love us more than we love them. But then again, who else is going to look out for the working man? Niellio, Scwartzneegger, John Campbell.
You must be one wealthy dude to support wall street and corporate America over working families!
rich people hire working familes .. no rich people = no jobs . you keep taxing them . they move out = see california .. dont know to many poor people that hire .
“rich people hire working familes [sic]” . . . Yeah, in China, Cambodia, El Salvador, and Cameroon.
Where do you think the “jobs” have gone genius? There is more consumer crap in the world than ever, and less jobs in the U.S. to show for it. The wealthy don’t create decent paying jobs for Americans, they just create more wealth for themselves. Explain to me why the top 5% have gained in wealth over the last 30 years, while the rest of Americans have stagnated or even fallen behind. With all this “no rich people = no jobs,” their should be A LOT MORE JOBS, right?
The Great One:
“Thank you Ceasar, Thank You. We are happy to serve you…….”
“Your Majesty, Thank You. Thank You. I am here to serve you……..”
Kenlaysnotdead:
“Fuck this. I work hard, pay MY fair share of taxes, why should I enrich the king?”
Great One, I am an American FIRST, which means I am a rebel, and I will go to my grave fighting corporate enablers like you. What has AT&T done for you?? Thats who drives the machine: At&T, BP, General Electric, PG&E, Boeing et all…..
You can lick your masters balls all you want, I for one am independent and a slave to none.
I am sure that Goldman Sachs is happy to have guys like you on thier side!
kenlay the towers was a inside job right . . when you have nothing the far left like you calls names . guess what i am a rebel too so keep pushing your face in your george soros , msnbc butt . when cali goes down yoU will go down with it because YOUR KING WONT HAVE ANY PEOPLE TO RULE OVER . ARE YOU A BIG FAT GOV WORKER ..
