The Brett Favre Midlife Crisis

Politics in America is tied directly to American Sports.  Face it, every time some weird thing happens…America goes crazy.

Let’s start with Tiger Woods.  No, forget Tiger Woods…everyone else has that is for sure.  Tiger single handedly has ruined the Sport of Golf, Fat Cats, Greedy Bankers and Bernie Madoff…in one feld swoop.  Let’s move on to the New York Yankees.  In case no one knows…the Yankees are out of the World Series….beaten by, of all teams – The Texas Rangers!  The Moderate Team of Guilani has been replaced by the Tea Party people of Nolan Ryan and secretly – George and Laura Bush.  The Rangers will be facing the Liberal faction of the National League – the San Francisco Giants.  The outcome will determine whether the New York Stock Exchange rises or falls in 2011.

Moving on, the perinneal PAC-10 is now the PAC-12, adding of all things the Colorado Buffalos and the Utah Utes!  Our beloved PAC-10 is being split in two and now we have the so-called North/South Divide!  Since, USC cannot beat any Oregon or Washington Schools, we merely have separated them from our schedule.  Now we can only lose to them once a year, that is  –  if we win our division.  This whole process is very disconcerting.  It all flies directly in the face of tradition and competition.  For those of us that enjoyed the fight – “It sucks big-time!”  What, we can’t put San Diego State on our schedule like all the other subpar teams do?  They call it a monetary move!  Hmmm. So what money goes where again?  Someone call Commissioner Larry Scott and ask him for the break-down on the cash!  In the meantime, the NCAA and the BCS computers all prove one thing:  “They need to stop messin with Sasquatch!”

It seems that  all of our sports icons are falling because of either drug enhancement vitamins, viagra or just plain fooling around, the latest of course is 41 year old Brett Favre!  Brett still doesn’t quite understand that he is going through his mid-life crisis.  (In case anyone wants to know; Mid-Life Crisis is the period from the age of 36 to 42!) Anyone that watched Sunday Night football last night and Brett’s heroics against his old team the Green Bay Packers, had to take note.  It came down to the last 27 seconds.  It came down to one foot in and one foot out by Percy Harvin – in the end zone.  It came down to Brett hobbling around sadly on his hurt left leg and ankle….like the old warhorse that he is…..facing down his own “Illision of being Elvis”…..for himself.  Not letting down his fans, or himself – while maybe sending self-exposure photos to a young babe!  Having the major ups and downs of  just being an old guy that can still play the game better than a bunch of youngsters!  Still not being able to fully acknowledge his own confusion or major value conflicts!

Does Brett still love his wife and family?  Sure!  Does he think he will be missing something when he quits football?  Sure!  Brett is conflicted!  Should he stay…should he go?  Does he want to spend every Sunday on Fox Sports talking with Howie and Terry about what lame team is going to lose?  Probably not!  Brett wants more.  All of those aches and pains and not complaining have him questioning himself.  What kind of life did I really live?  What kind of legacy do I want to leave?  Do I really want to be another Dan Marino?  Probably not!  Does Brett really want to sell “workout equipment” like Fran Tarkington had to?  Probably not!

Things are tough, Brett has a few more years until his Mid-Life Crisis is officially over and he realizes that maybe most of his original values of hard work, faith and honesty should be kept.  Brett needs to know that just because he can lick his pee pee – like any puppy dog……it might be better not to overtly show the kids and certainly only do that sort of  thing – strictly in private!  Brett needs to set his personal value bar higher for all the new kids that are coming along.  He needs to get a grasp on his own limits by holding on fiercely to his own principled values and by becoming a consistent caring human being.   Every day Brett….Every day!  “Hi, I’m Brett Favre and I am a Selfa-holic!”  “Hi Brett!”  Brett needs to close his eyes to the professional dirt, the criminal slime and the accepted wrong doing – that he is surrounded by.  Either that….or he needs to quit and start changing it immediately.

Brett has to stop comparing himself to duplicitous Politicians, Baseball Players or Golfers!  Brett needs to retire after this season and take up the mantle as a giving mentor to young kids.  He needs to keep making Wrangler Jeans ads….and perhaps embark on a major campaign with some sort of Sports shoe Manufacturer as well.  Brett needs to apologize to his wife, his family and the people of Green Bay, Minneapolis and the United States for being a stupid person that made a very stupid choice during his mid-life crisis.

Brett needs to tell everyone –  “I have learned my lesson!  Forgive me folks!”
