Over the past two days I have visited the Mission Viejo City hall to review all of our city council candidate #460 campaign forms. You can discover a great deal about their individual campaigns such as:
who has received donations from special interests, who spent the most money to date, who has the most cash left in the bank, how many slates will they be on, to how many yard signs and banners they have purchased.
There is one caveat before jumping to conclusions at this time. The election is still four weeks away and we need to monitor future #460 reports to see what additional revenues have been received and spent.
Beyond that some of us monitor Political Action Committees, PAC reports to check out their independent expenditures supporting or opposing Ballot Measures and candidates.
Mission Viejo’s former mayor Lance MacLean was recalled on February 2nd of this year. However, Lance retained a 2010 web site, pulled papers to run again next month, and paid $1,154 for his 200 word candidate statement to appear in our ballots.
A review of his 460 report, covering the period from July through June 30th, confirms that his supporters have quickly forgotten their friend Lance. Lance has not received a single dime from council members Trish Kelley, Frank Ury, Susan Withrow, Sharon Cody or Sherri Butterfield to name but a few. Only activist Helen Workum bothered to sign his nominating papers but has not given him a contribution.
According to his 460 Lance has an outstanding loan payable of $18,050. He has a grand total of $333.34 in the bank. In fact, his only reported expenditure, as of Sept 30, was his candidate statement.
Where are they today?
They are angry. He has messed up their plan to promote a three member slate including the man he appointed to be his representative on the planning commission.
Lance now becomes the spoiler in this race. I hope he takes thousands of votes away from his former PC and replacement, current mayor pro-tem Leckness, to send a message to Frank and Trish.
And to look back at all the flack we took removing Lance from office yet the very same people who hammered us for that activity have quietly thrown him under a school bus. They would parade up to the microphone under public comment and praise Lance. Yes, we do have rear view mirrors in Mission Viejo. They exist on our city archived council meeting tapes to confirm what I am reporting.
While there are those who attack me from losing faith from those I helped get elected be it Trish Kelley or Frank Ury, let’s see their reaction to this post.
Not only did they throw Lance under the bus–they ran over Lance also !!!
It was only a few months ago I saw Lance’s now lost friends ( Kelley, Leckness, Sandzimeir, Breton,) holding Lance’s campaign sign. How quickly they forget—or have they suddenly gotten “religion”. Or maybe they realized Lance would be nothing but problematic for them.
So much for fair weather friends–of course Frank Ury will tell you he was never Lance’s friend–just ask Diane Greenwood.
It appears there is a lot of slate work assumed here in MV. In fact Rick Sandzimier (that’s how you spell his name by the way), is fiercely independent in views and positions. Perhaps the most honest man I have had the pleasure to know for over 30 years. What I fear is that an uninformed electorate will seek to install a slate on “new Guys” inclusive of retired malcontents with no experience running a business let along a budget of 50 million dollars.
Rick Sandzmier is know man of violence. Example his aggressive act perpetrated against Larry Gilbert during a city council meeting. Mr. Sandzimeir made so much commotion he was asked to leave the meeting.
Sandy. I believe you have visited before. This post is about Lance MacLean. While Rick was Dave Lecknesses’ planning commissioner, and abandoned Lance for his own self interest, I can handle him.
Note: Rick S lives three blocks away from me and had the nerve to call me for an endorsement as well as seeking permission to place his yard sign in front of my house.
Some candidates truly amaze me.
This is a very interesting reply by Mr. Gilbert. It is most likely worded as is because Larry knows the truth about the City Council incident that Sandy was referring to. By researching the full video images of the chambers that evening, not just the angle shown by Larry, you should be able to see the facts. The truth is that Mr. Gilbert and others in the audience were communicating to me as I walked back from the dais and so as not to interrupt the meeting I went to the seats near Mr. Gilbert to ask what he was asking me. At that point Mr. Gilbert jumped up out of his seat and put his finger into my chest and physically pushed me back, which is what cause the attention to draw to the audience. Behind us was Mr. Mark Dibrolovich who was exacerbating the problem by egging it on from the row behind. As Mr. Gilbert was pushing me back with finger in my chest saying lets take this outside, my reply was that he was being ridiculous and I was just going to sit down. At that point, I believed Mr. Gilbert realized his actions were inappropriate and he in fact sat down. Then he got up and walked out because the Sergeant at Arms asked him to. I did not leave the room. Following that incident you will recall, or you can go back to Larry’s blog write up to read for yourself his clever account of the incident where he portrayed it as “acts in a play” or something to that effect. This was surely a “cover your ass” (CYA) move on his part, as well as throwing his loyal followers a bone or more Cool Aid to consume. I chose not to respond to his account in writing as it would never be published anyway. I did call him to discuss it. At the following, City Council meeting, outside of the Council Chambers, Larry and I had a discussion where he acknowledged that his write up was essentially fiction.
Sandy, Larry does not want you to get involved because he knows the truth that I am a straight shooter, and he does not want that truth to come out. He also knows that when I asked for his signature on my nomination paper that we had a nice discussion about it, he thanked me for asking him but he politely declined as he said he wanted to “preserve his interest to blog about the election” without any presumed ties to a candidate.
Sandy if you ever want to talk to me directly about any of this I can be reached at my email here or through City Hall.
I will be posting this reply on another email and/or blog in the event Larry chooses not to publish it.
Respectfully,
Rick Sandzimier
Rick. While I am permitting your response I could easily have hit the trash key.
Once again you shift the focus from “blighting” the city with your signs to bring up an old city council encounter that is not as you report. There were others sitting near me, including candidate Neil Lonsinger, who agree with my recollection of that council incident as well as the deputy but I will not be baited into this diversion of facts.
From a review of the #460s, and having travelled around the city, you do win the award for being the candidate deserving an award for creating blight in Mission Viejo. In fact a few weeks ago I contacted you after driving past four adjacent signs at the end of La Paz Road and Olympiad to which your response was “do you like the design” and “would you like one?” That’s an example of your arrogance knowing those signs were on city property where, to the best of my recollection, no candidate has ever violated that space.
That’s what this post is all about. The city manager just sent me an email about your involvement in another incident last night but it was not included as I wasn’t present.
larry, did you say yes?????????
S.R. Martin.
Where were you in 2002?
As Trish Kelley’s campaign manager in that election her experience was that of a part time piano instructor. She had “no experience running a business let along a budget of 50 million dollars.”
There is only one “slate” of three candidates running in this years election. Trish Kelley, Dave Leckness and Rick S.
We can’t afford four more years of Trish’s leadership. Case in point. Can we all agree that CA was in a recession in 2008?
When questioned about moving ahead with a Rose Parade float to celebrate our 20th birthday, spending between $350,000 to $400,00 of taxpayer funds, Trish said we budgeted for the project in a prior year so it was OK to blow that money on a feel good project when Mission Viejo’s bedroom community is not a tourist destination like Anaheim.
That’s one example of fiscal insanity from Trish, Lance and Frank Ury.
In my Nov 9, 2009 interview of Dave Leckness, posted on the Juice, Dave stated that “he liked the Rose Parade float” but added “it doesn’t make sense.”
Larry,
WOuld you inform us the bank, and who released the amount Lance had in there please? This is personal information not public knowledge.Forget the politics .
Colin. Are you off your meds again?
Trish would not be running with RS if he were not going to do her bidding. I have known and watched and been the receipient of her trading votes and working only to promote herself. If RS hadn’t already drank the Koolaid, TK would not have anything to do with him, she alredy has her three votes, but maybe the next bus she sends out will have Frank’s name on it.
Damn. There are a lot of political bus-throwing-under incidents in your neck of the wood, Larry. I remember just a couple weeks ago somebody threw the whole OCGOP endorsement committee under that damn bus, just for nixing Trish Kelly. Now Lance? I hope these folks keep their arms and legs close together and avoid those big wheels! They could seriously be permanently crippled.
Vern. Their is a connection to busing in MV. Our city council sued the CUSD over a busing related issue.
Larry , you have violated a serious case of finding out what a person has in the bank. You will now be investigated and the person who revieled the information will face a serious reprremand. For someone who says he was a c.e.o. in jersey perhaps you would be kind enough to give me the name of the company.?Newark I think?
As for my medications……..what ever they are , if you utter one word of something I don’t take you will find yourself behind bars along with your camel.
colin.
Go away. I’m out of state and the first thing I read on the Juice is trash from you.
My biggest pet peeve…even professional bloggers can’t use “their” and “there” correctly. 🙂
RRR.
If that’s the biggest issue you can find I plead guilty.
In my haste I will often make errors in the text as I switch from AOL to Internet Explorer in drafting my posts. I will accept that criticism and try to reduce these word usage and spelling errors going forward.
PS: I do not find the misuse of “their” referring to more than one person or group.
That is such a petty complaint………obvously nothing to say.
Larry , your right this time .thats really petty.
