“The second Monday in October is celebrated across America as Columbus Day. It is a celebration of the man who discovered America. In school, children are taught that Christopher Columbus was a national hero. In actuality, the man was a murderer. It is true that he found a land that was unknown to the “civilized” world, yet in this discovery, he erased the natives inhabiting the land. With slavery, warfare, and inhumane acts, Christopher Columbus and the men who accompanied him completely destroyed a people, a culture, and a land. These are not actions that should be heralded as heroic,” according to Whitney De Witt.
How anyone can worship Columbus as a hero is beyond me. He was the first Euro terrorist to attack the New World – which wasn’t new at all, except to the dumb Europeans who thought the world was flat.
It is disgraceful that we have a Columbus Day holiday today. It should be abolished.
You can join a protest against Columbus Day on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Mission San Juan Capistrano, from 10 am to 1 pm. Click here for details and to RSVP on Facebook. The video above was shot at last year’s Columbus Day protest.
President Obama could have done that this year, via Executive Order. Instead, Obama gave a speech praising Columbus. Here it is – warning, it is very offensive:
Over five centuries ago, Christopher Columbus set sail across the Atlantic Ocean in search of a new trade route to India. The findings of this explorer from Genoa, Italy, would change the map of the world and forever alter the course of human history.
When Columbus’s crewmembers came ashore in the Americas, they arrived in a world previously unknown to his contemporaries in Europe. Columbus returned to the Caribbean three more times after his maiden voyage in 1492, convinced of the vast potential of what he had seen. His expeditions foreshadowed the journey across the seas for millions of courageous immigrants who followed. As they settled, they joined indigenous communities with thriving cultures. Today, we reflect on the myriad contributions tribal communities have made to our Nation and the world, and we remember the tremendous suffering they endured as this land changed.
For more than 500 years, women and men from every corner of the globe have embarked on journeys to our shores as did Columbus. Some have sought refuge from religious or political oppression, and others have departed nations ravaged by war, famine, or economic despair. Columbus charted a course for generations of Italians who followed his crossing to America. As Italy marks the 150th anniversary of its unification this year, we celebrate the incalculable contributions of Italian Americans, whose determination, hard work, and leadership have done so much to build the strength of our Nation.
What Columbus encountered over half a millennia ago was more than earth or continent. His epic quest into the unknown may not have revealed the new trade route he sought, but it exposed the boundless potential of a new frontier. It is this intrepid character and spirit of possibility that has come to define America, and is the reason countless families still journey to our shores.
In commemoration of Christopher Columbus’ historic voyage 518 years ago, the Congress, by joint resolution of April 30, 1934, and modified in 1968 (36 U.S.C. 107), as amended, has requested the President proclaim the second Monday of October of each year as “Columbus Day.”
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim October 11, 2010, as Columbus Day. I call upon the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities. I also direct that the Flag of the United States be displayed on all public buildings on the appointed day in honor of Christopher Columbus.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this eighth day of October, in the year of our Lord two thousand ten, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
BARACK OBAMA
“Christopher Columbus was a murderer, a terrorist and a pirate”…….. Hmmmmm
So why are you so proud to be “Latino” ZORRO?…….. when the Latino part of the Mexicans comes from the murderess like Columbus, Cortes and Spanish conquistador.
Why is that Spanish language Latino background so important to you?…… Huh?
It has no a part in your heritage accept for a surrender.
About 500 years ago, same time when your people were forced to speak Spanish, the Czech people were forced to speak German. It would be idiotic for me now to admire German language as my own.
I don’t know what’s worst………the racist comments towards Hispanics that followed this article or the infinite denial that Americans have? If you think Columbus was a person worthy of praise then you should read his journal entries. He was a goddamn savage sadistic unquestioning murdering errand boy. Truth hurts. Own it and move on….the whole world is waiting for you to at least acknowledge that we have serious problems here on planet earth. You look foolish when you close you eyes, cover your ears with your hands, and say “nah nah nah I don’t wanna hear it”……….childish to say the least. No more discourse in this country because everybody is an uninformed genius who won’t yield to the truth or at least accept that another perspective can exist.
*Every time someone wants to beat up on Chris Columbus…we wonder: Why him when
you could just as easily beat up on Hernando Cortez! Or what about Father Serra….that’s
another one that ripped away the history of the native Americans right here in California?
The real culprit was: Ponce De Leon….searching for the Fountain of Youth in Florida!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_Ponce_de_Le%C3%B3n
How about Montezuma? How about the Toltecs? How about……..figuring it out that
someday someone would find a continent or two one third the size of the entire world.
Don’t blame Chris….he was just out there searching for the perfect pizza!
You act like he was some innocent explorer. Read his travel diaries. He deserves condemnation so long as a national holiday honors and elevates his historical misdeeds…
This kind of garbage gets printed every year by some bozo. Interesting that the fact that the Anasazi, the real first explorers of North America, were largely wiped out by violent action by modern tribes. Whether Columbus was even the first European to journey across the Atlantic to North America (Vikings, Irish?) is irrelevant. What he did was amazing for the time.
Your headline is nonsensical in that you don’t even make your case for any of your claims. There are no allegations that Columbus crew murdered anyone on their journey. There are no claims that Columbus terrorized the native tribes. There are no claims that Columbus practiced piracy. At best, your argument seems to be that Columbus opened the seaways that led to further European Atlantic Ocean travel that led to the exploration of North, Central and South America.
Zorro, this seems like nothing more than a series of bogus claims aimed at getting YOU more attention than any real effort to make a real point. Grow up.
Your an idiot
You’re an idiot!
You are an ignorant person. Do you even know how many people were killed because of Columbus? Please know your info before you talk like an idiot. I guess you would like it if a person came to your house killed you and your family, and said that they live here. You’d probably call them a hero…..
Such ignorance….
Actually, long before the Europeans arrived the tribes of South America killed and went to war with each other all the time. In fact, right before the Europeans arrived The Mayans had just finished a mass human sacrifice ritual that killed about 80,000 people in 4 days. Native americans tribes, Mayans, Aztecs, etc, conquered and killed each other all the time. Just like tribes in Africa. European countries did the same to each other. Isis is doing the same thing in the middle east right now. I say that to emphasize the fact that every nation and people have conquered others at various points in history. Columbus is an important figure in history. He was not perfect, but he should have a holiday.
Coward, what is this anomymous crap your a coward, illogical ,horrible syntax,,,,,stay away from humanity and children
Hey, moron, he never even made it to America. Read his journals. He writes about the horrible things he did. He was proud to be a monster.
I have read columbus accounts in Latin and Spanish ,as well as the poorly translated engish versions,If u cast stones besure u r pure in heart and have a moral compass to guide u ,I suggest u read Samuel Morrison’s,Admiral of the Ocean Sea in its entirety and u will understand your foolish comments as bovive scar
must have been a slow day in zorro land . so he cooks up this crap . great points by all above .
It wasn’t Columbus.
It was the Pope.
a nation needs a strong border and strict enforcement, otherwise it will be invaded
invaded by whom?
*Actually, it was Eric the Red….a Northern European Viking type from Denmark/Sweden and
his ilk that landed in Greenland and Iceland and Nova Scotia. He left a few hardy types
and after a few years determined that the land was uninhabitable. At least that…..there
were more babes in Scandavnia that were cute than fighting over the local native types.
The reality is…..gabriel san roman ,,,must just not like Italians! What about Pizzaro and
that whole Inca thing? There were lots and lots or Spaniards that just loved to rape, pillage
and plunder Native types! What about those guys?
Eric the Red never made it to America. You’re thinking of Leif Erikson. And nobody was left behind in Vineland.
Sweden!!?? Ha!
Do you really think I favor Pizzaro? Get real. You live in a fantasy world where you think Columbus was just a pizza pioneer and I somehow hate Italians.
Like I said, read Columbus’ own diaries.
Get to work!
As I recall Gabriel, Columbus’ expedition was conducted on behalf of the King of Spain who did finance it. Italians had noting to do with Columbus except for his birth place.
That is why we call Mexicans Hispanic and not Hispaghettic.
No really??? Revelation! Would have needed that clear up if said anti-Italian bias was actually a valid accusation against me.
Next…
mmmm….pizza
Christopher Columbus is a vicious genocidal killer !. What this guy Columbus ever did was exploited, enslaved, murdered and butchered millions of poor innocent Indians. Leif Eriksson and the Vikings were nice peaceful people who never hurt the Indians and Leif was the first European to discover America, not Columbus. Abolish Columbus Day please
Hey Zorro, It wasn’t Obama who proclaimed Colombus Day, this stupidity has been going on for quite sometime before him. If you are trying to give some information or opinion, and I don’t believe so, READ, READ and READ before. We are dealing with history here!
Of course Colombus was a murderer and exterminated indians in addition to diseases and Sexually TD’s by his crew. The natives weren’t imune to common cold, measels, etc. Rember, if you have ever read anything about Colombus, the crew was provided by the kings of Spain and they were criminals in jail, who were given the oportunity to be free for good and maybe get a lot of money. Colombus died in prison because the kings of Spain found out about the abuse indians were subjected to. Afterwards his son, Diego Colon became the man in power of the Dominican Republic.
Just keep Obama out of this!
We stole your land and now you follow us for jobs….You have loads of land in Mexico to inhabit but you won’t educate your children, so the land that you have is simply AWFUL and you follow the very people you despise for a better life.
If this land had not been taken over by the Europeans, it would be a land full of sad, poor and desperate natives…like Mexico!
Ditto
So europeans taking over this land goes hand in hand with genocide? Hm
Whose we? I bet your lazy ass hasn’t done shit. You’re such a bitch because you’re constantly constipated.
Do not summon the spirits from the deep!
dont talk like that about mexico michelle quinn
Look, this post is from Oct. 2010. She’s long gone.
She may have actually moved to Texas, as she was always threatening to.
But her hater comments shall live with us forever.
It amazes me how stupid people can be Columbus was an explorer and because of records of his journeys solely he becomes this great hero but that hero had a dark side people don’t want to hear the truth but the fact is Columbus and his brothers were arrested for there crimes when he returned to europe there were 23 witnesses of his own crew that said he raped tortured and murdered people
“Columbus and his brothers were arrested for there crimes when he returned to europe there were 23 witnesses of his own crew that said he raped tortured and murdered people”……… Hmmmmm
Sounds like USA military.
Did he also piled up naked Arabs on the top of each other?….. and raped boys rather than girls like USA homos?
It is all true. Upon his “discovery” of the new continent, he returned with a promise to bring back gold to his homeland of Spain. When he found none, he took the only resource he had onhand. Slaves. He wiped out an entire race of people. The type of Native Americans living in places like Jamaica, for example have NO decendants alive today. Thank you all for the history lessons, but it has no bearing on the truth. He was one of the most prolithic murderers in history. Sorry…
I love how all the history buffs get their facts straight before posting their stories. I wonder if they did any research to learn that disease and fammine wiped out about 90% of native americans prior to Columbus arriving to the “New (to him) World” The vikings tried to take a stab at colonizing prior to said disease/fammine and were shown the door. It’s my belief that the same would’ve happened to Columbus if the natives population had held up. NATURE thinned out their population, not Christopher Columbus.
Nature will thin out the population again…but that doesn’t change the fact that humans suck…some more than others
That is the fact of the matter. Humans commit horrible deeds. However, Columbus’s risk to sail west did in fact open up the western hemisphere to the rest of the world. That discovery did create a place that still today provide a refuge for people from all over the world. That is what the holiday is about. Presidents, kings, just about every great historical figure has some dirt attached to their name secretly. That is not the important part. What they did to improve the world is the celebrated part, not what they had to do to get in position.
[Editor’s note: we decided to include about half of this comment; you can probably figure out most of the rest.]
this … videos … like … stinking … assinine … who have no … in the first … they are breaking … crossing our … so shut the … you … who are like jews … of earth, get out … and columbus wasn’t … i read the story and know he was somewhat ruthless but wasn’t a murderer.

GET THE … MY COUNTRY YOU …!
Is a little bit strange all this comments and this post.
I would like to explain you something. The catholics Spanish kings and our Carlos I ( Charles I of Spain and V of Germany did laws and rights to the Indian in the way that we csn say that no all people enjoy the same rights nowadays. For instance.. the indians are not slaves. They wont work for free.. the extra hours will be paid.. the torture is forbidden. . The indians have 2 free days in a week.. the indisns will enjoy the same culturals frre days like the spanish.. ( Rights righten in Burgos in 1539) . Do you believe that all people in a wolrd today can rnjoy of these rights? Came on ! I have never seen that the people complains about the Spaniards did in America , also are complaining about what did de English furst and the usa citizens agains the indigens in the North. I don’t understand why you complain about what did the spaniards in the sXVI and in the same time you ignore what you did even In the SXIX.
I would like to explain somethings.. when the Spanish arrive to a new area/place the first thing that they did , was to build a church and school
Do you know what did your ancestors? I say to you.. you built a jail and a market of slaves. And also.. remember.. all slaves that scaped from the Nord went to Spanish areas because they were free in these Spanish colonies.
Other thing.. How many wars have been beetwen the Spanish colonies beetwen them? I mean.. there are a lot of wars in the last 50 years in the ancient European colonues because you didn’t respect the people.. their language s.. cultures…and you did counyries and frontiers according your own interests. Regards.. Apologies me for my English
Your English isn’t the problem.
So David.. if my English is not a problem is possible understand that I have other one…it isn’t? Thanks
No, I think he was saying he understands what you’re trying to say. And it’s the things you are trying to say that are a problem.
Michelle Quin was a retired sixty two year old cop. I doubt he ever left for Texas, just another imaginary blog ghost………….
Speaking of ghosts, the guy who could fix Vern’s stinky trash venue was never called. You can fix the problem or bitch about it. Most prefer the later.
1. Thanks for the interesting info if it’s true.
2. Thanks for no info at all. What fuckin guy.
Wait, I looked again. Michelle Quinn was a “he?” You’re wrong, I talked to HER on the phone once.
So much for me putting any thought into your “guy” who could clean up Rainbow.
Real Truth. We have similar story for India. I can help you with more info about these pirates who looted both America and India.
Still the loot is on, system has changed. That’s it..
