Almost all of the candidates are talking about pension reform now, but they don’t quite have their figures right. According to the city’s HR Director, public safety employees currently pay 2.557% of thier salaries towards their multi-million dollar retirements, while taxpayers pick up the rest. This year, we’re paying an additional 29.752% of their salaries towards their retirements, and it’s set to shoot much higher.
In private-sector terms, that’s equivalent to an employer 401(k) match of 1200%. That’s twenty-four times the average out here in the real world.

yeah , give this to la fem, she is an expert in everything from desal to salaries, to the fairground sale, ad nauseum. geez, does she ever work a real job? or does she do this research on the job? if so, how much $$$ per hour does she make at her job for when she is actually working that is, not the eight hours in office but the two hours of work. also tell her teachers work less than 10 months a year for their annual salaries they claim so bump that figure up by 16%. i may have that math wrong but hopefully la fem can do the math. i get lost after e=mc2 and f=m x a so i a dummy. thank god for la fem the watchdog, lol
Its even worse than you picture since your pension can be pumped up for life by inflating your salary in the last couple of years you work with overtime and other gimmicks. It is not unusual for a public pension to be a 2 or 3 times multiplier of the real last five or ten year salary average.
What’s the saddest part is the crickets from the left on here. They know there is no defense to the bloated pensions so they won’t even trot out the tired public safety angle. I think you hit a nerve Travis – well done.
