Costa Mesa Councilwoman Katrina Foley is running for the Newport Mesa School Board
Orange County candidates for local elected offices began announcing their campaigns yesterday on Facebook, as they pulled their campaign papers.
- Costa Mesa Councilwoman Katrina Foley announced that she is running for the Newport Mesa Unified School District Trustee Area 2. She immediately becomes a favorite to win this race.
- Dan Kalmick announced that he has pulled papers to run for the Huntington Beach City Council. Kalmick ran for Congress back in 2008, if I recall correctly, against Dana Rohrabacher.
- Jeff Lalloway announced that he was the first person to pull papers to run for the Irvine City Council. Lalloway is allied with Irvine Councilman Steven Choi. That is great news! Together they can keep on fighting the corrupt Agranista machine.
Do you know of any other candidates that pulled papers? Please let us know by commenting on this post. Thanks!
If Foley wins the School Board seat she will be required to abandon her Costa Mesa City Council seat with two years remaining on her term. That would remove the only voice opposing the Allan Mansoor-led majority. Mansoor is termed-out and running for Van Tran’s Assembly seat, but his running mate, Wendy Leece, will probably run for re-election and perpetual loser, carpetbagger Jim Righeimer, will probably run again with the full support of the OC GOP. The council will appoint a replacement for Foley to serve out her term. So extreme will be the right-wing tilt of that council that they may all slide off the right side of the dais.
Potstirrer,
Hard to blame Foley. It has to be maddening being the only voice of reason on the CM Council. And this is her last term. She can start anew on the Newport Mesa School Board.
She has always been great on education issues and I know she will do a great job on the school board.
The people of CM will have a chance to replace a few of the nutters on their Council in November.
… yeah, if some good candidates file!
Costa Mesa progressives, environmentalists, honest conservatives, non-racists, your city needs you now!
Even if they slide off the right side of the dais, at least they’ve got their “In God We Trust” display to keep them safe from harm.
Are you sure she will have to relinguish her seat on the council? There are many local politicians that hold several positions at the same time? Prime example, the idiot Public Administrator John Williams who also serves on the South Orange County Community College Board (and up until this last election also was elected to a third position on the Orange County Central Republican Committee).
Williams had FOUR positions – three now. Remember, he’s got the elected post of Public Administrator (which pays $18,000 a year) AND he brilliantly combined it with the appointed post of Public Guardian which pays SIX FIGURES. Meanwhile he flies all over – mostly to Tampa – supposedly on missions for his College Board gig. We gotta claw that plum PG gig from him.
Vern, I don’t think this is correct. If you look at the action the BOS took in August or November, 2007, when they combined the Public Administrator with the Public Guardian, it looks like they then deleted the Public Guardian position. So now, if they want to get rid of Williams, they will need to re-undo the combination of the positions, then remove him as Public Guardian. So technically, I believe I was right. Either way, we still need to claw it away from him – what a waste of tax payers dollars. That’s why there are approximately 10 managers, mostly to cover his @$$ while he is off globe trotting 6-8 weeks a year, all the while getting paid by the county. Wake up Supes! Lets see what the newbie does. He’s up for re-election in November and he’s in my district!
The election in November will be interesting. Those influencing the current majority have managed to turn the word “reason” into an epithet, so any candidate attempting to use it in campaign literature is ridiculed as a “lefty” hack. Any moderate candidate that may surfaces will have their ideas twisted by that group as being “socialist”. Of course, if you’re out there, hanging on the far right fringe, ANY view more centrist is going to look, from your perspective, like a “lefty” view. It’s going to take $50,000 to run a successful campaign in Costa Mesa this year again…
It’s obvious Katrina got tired of baling out the water while her other council members were drilling holes in the bottom of the boat.
Good for her… maybe she can work on our educating our youth. God knows, she couldn’t educate the council.
No loss with Foley leaving that Council — she’s no brighter than Mansoor.
Hey GoLightly, you forgot to say “Yuck!” like you usually do when you mention Councilwoman Foley.
What happened, did you realize how gay that makes you sound?
Sorry, that’s “deadwhitemale” that does that. Hard to tell you two apart sometimes.
GoLightly, obviously you have absolutely no clue! If you combined all the other brains on the Costa Mesa council dais they still wouldn’t come close to Foley’s! The only “problem” she has is that she has been in the minority during her term.
I hear John Leos, a ten year plus veteran of the Orange County Probation Department (Juvenile Corrections Officer) and OCEA Board of Directors (curious though his name just fell off their website before he announced he’s running) is running for Anaheim City Council. Since OCEA covers the City of Anaheim employees union, they will no doubt be bank rolling his campaign to look after their interests. I hear he has been out on workers comp a good portion his career.
I don’t say yuck about Foley, must be someone else. I like Foley for her passion and energy and a lot of her ideas. we disagree about illegal immigration is abouy all I can think of. good luck to Katrina
i just pulled my papers for irvine city council
Cool! Who gets to do the OJ story on you?
well im always free for interviews… or i could just write a self-flattering piece. haha
