Bill Hunt appears to have completely lost it. Check out this insane message he emailed to his supporters today:
While my opponents Sandra Hutchens and Craig Hunter remain preoccupied with issues unrelated to the Sheriff’s Race such as my profession as a Private Investigator working within the justice system, I believe voters should be appraised of the candidates’ position on issues facing the Sheriff’s Department and the County. One such issue is that of illegal immigration. I issue this challenge to each of my opponents to advise the public of their position on Arizona’s Senate Bill 1070 and their proposed treatment of illegal immigrants who commit crimes of misdemeanor or above. My position is clear and longstanding. I support Arizona’s law and I will refer illegal immigrants to ICE upon arrest for a crime of misdemeanor and above. I believe we can safely assume that if my opponents remain silent on this challenge then they do not support Arizona’s law and they will continue in the practice of citing and releasing illegal immigrants back into our streets after they have committed crimes.
So Hunt supporters the Arizona law, and hates immigrants, but he works to release gangbangers from jail? And rapists? Is it just me or is this dude seriously conflicted?
Hunt’s increasing mania has not been lost on our friend Scott Moxley, who had this to say about him over at the OC Weekly:
Indeed, every time Hunt campaigns with Maricopa County (Arizona) Sheriff Joe Arpaio—the most aggressively anti-illegal-immigrant lawman in the nation—his bond solidifies with this angry voting bloc. Thunderous cheers have repeatedly greeted Hunt’s promise that he’ll post “a posse of armed deputies” to block federal agents any time he thinks they are trying to exceed their constitutionally defined role in local matters. That pledge hasn’t sat well with all voters. One Hunt volunteer, who declined to provide his name, told me that the only criticism he’s heard while distributing campaign fliers is “a fear in some people that Hunt might be too aggressive for the job.”
Pretty obvious about how we all feel!
What’s wrong with that? Come to think of it I would like to know where Hutchens and Hunter stand on the issue. There is a crazy amount of comments over at the Register on that pro illegal immigration protest in Santa Ana. Something like 900 comments. I have never seen that many comments on an article over there before.

I was uncertain who to vote for in the Sheriff race, but upon reading your blog that he supports the Arizona law I now say “Hunt for Sheriff”. We need to do everything possible to seal our borders if for no other reason than the fact that people from Somalia and Yemen are being caught trying to sneak across the border. It is known throughout the world that the easiest way to get into the U.S. quickly is to go to Mexico, hire a coyote and come on in. It is NM’s (non-Mexicans) coming in from Mexico illegally that we all need to be very concerned about.
Thanks for the publicity for out next sheriff !! how he will deport immigrants will be interesting since I think he is only allowed to deport ILLEGAL immigrants. (not undocumented,; they have many forms of documentation, all false alll crimes)

Bill Hunt helped the defense of a rapist that involved the brutal sexual assault of a minor female in the city of Fullerton on April 10, 2009. The victim, Jane Doe, is at a party where the defendant lures her to his car and physically kidnaps her. The defendant, 23 years old at the time, drives around the block and violently sexually attacks the victim causing trauma to her genital area and mouth. The case is still pending in Orange County Superior Court.
The Fullerton police department arrested the defendant on April 11, 2009 in the city of Anaheim. Booking data shows the defendant, Alan O. CARRILLOTORRES being of a large stature of 6’2″, 230 pounds, as a resident of Corona California, employed as a line cook at an Anaheim Hills restaurant, born in Mexico and claiming to have Mexican citizenship.
How did he help the defense? How do you know what his role was? Was it illegal? Are you a troll?
Exactly how is he “maniacal”? When did he say he hates immigrants?
I love immigration, as it gives us in America the chance to have a richer, broader culture. Immigration is how America was formed.
Now, I am against “illegal” immigration, since it hurts our economy and takes away our jobs. Now, you may say something like “these are jobs Americans don’t want.” However, that may have been true twenty or thirty years ago when Hispanic immigrants worked in the fields harvesting our fruits and vegetables and stuck doing the jobs “legals” wouldn’t. Now, “illegals” have taken up constructing, roofing, cooking and landscaping, these are the jobs Americans do want. Our unemployment rate for legal citizens is at high, and millions have been laid off.
Another reason “illegals” hurt the economy is through Remittance, the process of sending back money to their family from their homeland. This may sound like a noble cause, but this process devaluates our dollar. Illegals are also a drag on hospitals when they don’t get paid for medical services provided to them. The state may pay, but they take their time paying hospitals back.
Due to the budget crisis of the great state of California, we need someone to stand up to flawed policies that will inevitably bankrupt our state.
I hope Bill Hunt is elected and hope he fulfills his campaign promises.
PS: Art, why due you use the word “immigrant” instead of illegal immigrant? You try to make it sound like these “immigrants” pay State and Federal taxes and are NOT a drag on our economy.
