Arizona’s economy shattered by S.B. 1070 as workers disappear

CNN is reporting, as seen in the video above, that the Arizona racial profiling law, SB 1070, has backfired. Businesses are suffering and cannot find workers. Losses are estimated to be in the millions!

Even the Republican State Senator who wrote the law, Russell Pearce, admits he wants guest workers – but only if they come here alone, then pay their taxes, then go home. In essence, he wants slaves.

The boycott is also having a major effect.  Mexicans are not coming to Arizona to spend money, at all.  They are going to other neighboring states.

Many cities are also boycotting Arizona, including Austin, Los Angeles and Santa Ana.

And a group called The Sound Strike led by Los Angeles rockers Rage Against The Machine and featuring Cypress Hill, Massive Attack and System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian, are boycotting performing shows until law SB 1070 is amended.  Popular rapper Kanye West is also boycotting Arizona and the band Los Lobos just canceled a concert in Stockdale.

And the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the GOP’s embrace of racism is driving Latinos out of the Republican Party:

Among California Latinos who registered between the 2002 and 2006 midterm elections, 23% were Republican, 50% were Democrats and 23% declined to state. More recently, GOP affiliation among Latinos has begun to slip. For those who registered since the 2006 midterm vote, only 16% are Republicans, 56% are Democrats and 24% declined to state an affiliation. For non-Latino voters, the figures are 24% Republican, 44% Democrat and 26% independent since 2006.

They won’t be coming back to the GOP.

I was elected to the Republican Party of Orange County’s Central Committee in 2006.  I was the only Latino elected in that election.  I lasted about a year and finally had enough of the haters in the party.  I quit, became a Decline to State Voter then joined the Libertarian Party in 2008.  I was a Republican my entire life and served as the first Hispanic Outreach Director for the OC GOP.  I was even their Volunteer of the Year in 1997.  I originally started the Orange Juice as a place to post my Republican rants!  If they could drive me out, then surely they are going to have a heck of a time keeping any Latinos in the party – or attracting them to the GOP in the first place.

As for Arizona, they are now teetering on the edge of a self-inflicted economic collapse.  My guess is that the Democrats will eventually take over their state and undo the damage.  And another red state will turn permanently blue…
