Cecilia Iglesias, Independent Candidate for the 47th Congressional District, announces her Campaign Kickoff
Cecilia Iglesias, Independent Candidate for the 47th Congressional District, is having her campaign kickoff on Saturday, April 17, 2010, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Park Hotel Anaheim Resort, located at 1855 South Harbor Blvd., in the city of Anaheim.
“As a resident of district 47 for more than 30 years, I know the needs of my community. I have been serving the community for 19 years, and it will be a great honor, and privilege to be your representative in Washington. I believe that united we can face our current and future challenges as a nation, and together we can find sustainable solutions.” “Unity has been the reason why our great nation has maintained its global leadership and has allowed us to succeed in the worst adversities.” said Iglesias.

Ceci, I have been following your post. It is great to hear that you will be launching your campaign. You are a true voice; your initiative shows by your approach. You are down to earth and well liked. I trully believe that you will make a real change in our community. You are one of us, you live in our community and you are well connected with us. I will join you on you Kickoff. Good luck, and you have my vote!!
I met Candidate for 47th CD Cecilia Iglesias. Ceci seems to be genuinely interested and passionate about serving.
I see some immediate ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES in her campaign:
ADVANTAGE:
a) There is an ANTI-Incumbent mood in our nation. And if this mood persists she would benefit greatly from it.
b) I also don’t know how accurate this is, but some posters allege that US Rep Loretta Sanchez does not really live in her district and that she really lives somewhere else, while she maintains a Condo here for qualification purposes. She would benefit from this too because candidates should ideally live in the district they represent or want to represent.
.
DISADVANTAGES:
c) Although she appears genuine about serving. She seems to be “LIGHT” in comparison to US Rep Sanchez for several reasons.
US Rep Sanchez has built SENIORITY, and SENIORITY typically translates to greater ability to be able to do more for the district and to bring necessary fed dollars into our district. This is important especially since the other Republican US Resp in our area, have supposedly all “foregone” lobbying for fed dollars for Orange County districts.
(But this could also be advantageous to Ceci if there is an aversion for candidates that vote for EARMARKS)
d) INCUMBENTS have an advantage over challengers, and this works as a disadvantage for Ceci, unless the mood is against incumbents, or unless voters feels that US Rep Sanchez has not been effective in representing the district, or if voters feels that it is time to give another candidate a chance to remove the “corruptive” influence of long-term incumbents.
e) Generally, voters tend to also vote for the known incumbent, and this is a disadvantage for Ceci, unless in this year, voters mood is to closely scrutinize the voting records of all Incumbents.
So Ceci perception’s of being light on Experience may also hinder her, unless she can demonstrate like I like to say that “it is NOT the YEARS of Experience, but the EXPERIENCE You get in Those YEARS that matter” because that experience rather than the years may give someone like CECI an opportunity to develop and practice sound judgment.
I believe in very strong competition, and/or a MARKETPLACE of IDEAS and so Ceci can differentiate herself and in the process help our district if she can demonstrate what her past successes are, or what the EXPECTED OUTCOMES of her IDEAS might be for our District; and then we will have either her ideas or the ideas of US REP Sanchez to compare and vote for.
Francisco Barragan (my opinions only and not those of any group)
Realistically Sanchez is seasoned indeed and she has made her position a career. She is not involved and has lost touch with the community’s needs. It’s time for a fresh alternative whose interests are true. Ceci you have my vote and I say it’s time for change. “With change comes success!” I will definitely attend her campaign kickoff and you have my support!
Francisco,
You have covered a lot of areas that brings many voters to question. I believe Ceci has more advantages to offer in her campaign. Let me tell you; she has 19 years of experience and she is well connected with her community. Per her web page information, she has been an advocate to the community in various organizations (SouthWest Voters, Project Together-Health Care Agency,Enumerator Outreach/Census 2000, Poll Worker Registrar Voters,Santa Ana Civic Leadership Program-SACLI,Windsor Village Neighborhood Association, Began her own Non-Profit Organization-S.A.F.E/for the Deaf; not to mention her career in Social Services Agency as a Social Worker and now Contract Manager and much more…..).
When she visited my house I asked her to how long she has liked politics. She told, that her concentration is not politics, but her passion for the community. The Incunbent may have seniority now, but when she started she had no experience what so ever and was about Cecilia’s age now. By the way, what good is that, when she is so disconnected with her community and we only see her in our district around election time.
The difference with Cecilia is that she is bringing her experience, her love and passion that she currently has for the community. You are right, when elected, she will gain more experience; but I believe, she has what it takes.
For many years, the Incumbent has been elected, but there has been no change. Cecilia, as the post states, she brings Fresh ideas and will work tirelessly to be our voice in Washington D.C.
As far as voters voting for known Incumbant, this is when you and me need to start spreading the word around; that now we have someone that will truly represent us,”Cecilia Iglesias”
So the message,I have to deliver is that I will vote for Cecilia Iglesias this November 2010 because I want change to finally happen!!!
…the other Republican US Resp in our area, have supposedly all “foregone” lobbying for fed dollars for Orange County districts.
Paco, don’t fall for Republican anti-earmark rhetoric. One OC GOPer in particular, Ken Calvert, is the reigning king of earmarks (even making it as one of THREE congressmen featured in FOX’s documentary “Pork for Profit” … and Rep. Gary Miller isn’t far behind.
Meanwhile supposed libertarian and actual car salesman Rep. John Campbell enthusiastically backed Cash for Clunkers and wangled a special exemption for his own used-car-sales industry in another recent bill.
Cecilia, I am happy to hear that you will be launching your campaign. Count me in, I will be there and you also have my vote.
Congratulations Cecilia and many blessings; you have my vote and yes I will be there at your event to support you. I will vote for you this November upcoming elections.
Good Luck!!
It’s such an honor to be able to support you in every step of the way…you have touched and inspired so many people in our community and we can only expect more. Thank you because you put the needs of the community before anything and are truly what the 47th district needs 🙂
And of course, I will be there at your campaign kick-off!
It is great to know that you will be launching your campaign. You have been an inspiration to many of us; You have all the necessary skills to be our Representative for District 47. Your passion and your knowledge will makes a magnitude of great changes for our district. Stay positive and keep connected to our community.
I will support you and vote for you!!
Cecilia came to SAC letting us know that she supported our efforts to save cut classes, she never came through with her offers. I wonder if she will do the same with all her promises…??
student,
What can she do? The state is broke and your district has a terrible Board of Education. You guys need to work harder to dump your Board incumbents.
Ceci,
Congratulations, I’m excited to know that you will be launching you campaign. You have been doing so many effective things for the community and you know what the community’s needs. I definitely will be there to support you.
Students,
Cecilia Iglesias has already demonstrated that she will fight for higher education. She was present at OC Trail of Dreams Solidarity Walk that was held on February 27th. You can see her on Youtube and you will find that she was the only candidate present. Although it was a rainy day, the rain did not stop her from showing up; unlike others that promised and did not show.
Fighting for initiatives takes effort; I believe Cecilia has what it takes and I truly believe she will keep her promises. She has been giving back to the community for the past 19 years and that my friends, like the saying goes,”Actions Speak Louder Than Words”
#5 Vern Nelson:
1) You are correct, about their supposed opposition to earmarks. Please see my comments posted under “BARRAGAN” at:
http://www.ocregister.com/news/earmarks-238871-county-orange.html
2) Some of their earmarks have been over $100 million dollars.
see for example,
http://www.legistorm.com/earmarks/details/member/155/Rep_Ken_Calvert.html
http://www.legistorm.com/earmarks/details/member/445/Rep_Dana_Rohrabacher/page/1/sort/amount/type/desc.html
3) Also see page 17, increase in TRUE National Debt from 2000-2006 of about $34 Trillion to $52.7 Trillion (Annual Report to the Congress – and yet the Congress likes to report the annual debt of about $11 trillion but not the TOTAL debt of about $54 Trillion.)
http://www.gao.gov/cghome/d08446cg.pdf
Francisco Barragan (my opinions only and not those of any group)
AND in the case of Ken Calvert, many of his earmarks have gone *coincidentally* to dramatically raise the value of his real estate holdings – hence, Pork For Profit. Denny Hastert used to be real good at that too.
I like the idea of getting fresh blood into Congress, but Ceci’s statements (as most politicians) are vague boilerplate. We need to be sure that she is at least as progressive as Loretta, actually she should be MUCH MORE progressive, as we’re giving up seniority and power in Congress.
Does she support the recent healthcare reform and vow to STRENGTHEN it with measures like Alan Grayson’s “Medicare You Can Buy Into Act?”
Will she fight to bring an end to our two stoopid wars, and re-direct military spending to things Americans really need?
WILL SHE DO LORETTA ONE BETTER AND SPONSOR THE DREAM ACT?
If yes, yes, and yes, I may start doing fluff pieces on her myself. But I suspect not.
Vern, Ihave spoken to Cecilia on several occasions and “Yes, Yes, Yes….” she supports the Dream Act, the Health Care Reform and other important concerns that we as citizens have addressed and have seen no changes.
Yes, she is a new fresh of blood and that is what we need. We need a person who will really fight for the community and not just to hold a position in Congress without providing real representation to the citizens.
Further, she believes in term positions, “NOT’ holding on to a long career as a politician, but will give others an opportunity to run and continue to bring fresh ideas.
So this upcoming election, “VOTE FOR CECILIA IGLESIAS”
#4 Naomi Ortiz:
As a US Rep represents not just their District but also the US, I am curious what is Ceci’s EXPERIENCE AND PROPOSALS for:
1) Jobs Creation or making our district and USA competitive?
2) Addressing the exploding True National Debt of about $54 Trillion?
3) Unfunded Pension Reform?
4) Unfunded Retirement Health Benefit?
5) Reform of Social Security?
6) Healthcare Public Option?
7) Comprehensive Immigration Reform? (is she for Amnesty or not?)
8) Is she for the DREAM Act or Not?
9) Military or National Security issues, especially as there is a push to militarize the border?
10) Dept of Homeland Security issues?
11) Importation of lower cost drugs from other countries, especially as baby boomers age and require more drugs and healthcare (keep in mind that FDA audits manufacturers worldwide).
12) Prison Reform and the death penalty?
13) Education Reform?
14) Reducing illegal drug ADDICTION in USA which causes crime, destabilization of our society and which also furthers the destabilization of Mexico and other allies.
15) Does she have a basic knowledge of the work of the various regulatory agencies, more importantly does she also have a FINANCIAL background as our crisis was also precipitated from the financial meltdown?
16) Environmental Regulation because of Climate Change, and climate change deniers?
17) Jihadist Terrorism?
18) Nuclear energy?
19) Green Technology
20) The use of Nuclear arsenal as a strategic deterrent and when?
21) Taiwan vs China stance?
22) Palestine vs Israel stance?
23) Arms proliferation by North Korea, and Pakistan etc.
24) How should we deal with IRAN and the Ayatollahs given that there is a belief of widespread fraud in June 2008 elections? How do we reach out to the Moderates and not hurt their cause?
25) What should be our Exit strategy from Iraq or Afghanistan/Pakistan, if any? What time-frame? What objectives should be achieved first?
26) What is her stance on ABORTION? Yes or no?
27) What is her stance on Gay Marriage? Yes or no?
28) What is her stance on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell?
Overall can Cecilia demonstrate how her proposals not only DIFFER from what US Rep Loretta Sanchez proposes or fails to propose, but how in Cecilia’s thinking her proposals will achieve a BETTER OUTCOME for the district and the USA.
I think it will help voters, including Ceci’s supporters to know this.
Francisco “Paco” Barragan (my opinions only and not those of any group)
“I am curious what is Ceci’s EXPERIENCE AND PROPOSALS for:”
Hey Paco,
If any candidate could answer all of those questions they would be OVER qualified. You need to meet a few more members of Congress!
#20 WUD:
I don’t think they would be OVER qualified if they could answer those questions.
If other districts accept a LOWER standard for their Reps that is their choice, but I also don’t think we need to “DUMB-Down” the qualifications for our 47th CD US Rep.
Also, some of the answers require more of POLITICAL courage and JUDGMENT rather than EXPERIENCE to get to a more favorable POLICY outcome.
Elected officials need to act more like Elected LEADERS rather than Politicians for the well-being of our district and nation. Our issues are too great to play politics with them.
Both CANDIDATES & INCUMBENTS for federal office (Senate & US Rep) need to be scrutinized with at least those questions in mind.

“If other districts accept a LOWER standard for their Reps that is their choice, but I also don’t think we need to “DUMB-Down” the qualifications for our 47th CD US Rep.”
Cannot get any dumber than Loretta Sanchez!!!
Paco, thanks for giving Loretta a cheat sheet.
Even with her years in Congress, this air head keeps winging it -by now she should be able to elaborate on any topic with earnestness and without the fear of ruffling feathers. Loretta does not act like an elected official/leader.
Why don’t you run against air head?
Is there such a thing as write-ins for this race, ART?
Cecilia, I fully support you!! I will spread the word with my friends and family to support you. I believe that in order to make change, a strong “Leader” needs to walk the the ground as a “Servant” first. You are well connected with the community, because you walk the ground we walk. You know our needs and I know that you will do a great job.
I also believe that it takes a unanimous vote with other Represenatatives in Congress to make a sound decision. It is important that before passing or agreeing on any policies that they are scrutinized before passing them. To know and see all the hidden agendas that could be hidden from all the citizens. You will understand the language of the policies before passing them. Your experience as a Contract Manager will help you scrutinize all documents before passing them. I have no dought, that you will serve “District 47” well!!!
Also, you are a founder of your own Non-profit organization, that takes leadership and initiative. To be able to assist many families and providing a bridge in communication. Cecilia, I have heard many testimonies from these families that they can now communicate with their children and assist them with their homework. This is opening their doors to higher education.
I wish you the best of luck and I know that you will be a great Represenative for our District!!!!
Felicidades Cecilia!
Is there such a thing as write-in candidates for this race, ART?
Just in time,
Ceci has to gather six thousand signatures. If she fails to, then she can mount a write-in campaign. Better to collect the sigs!
Karla, yo tambien apoyo a Cecilia.
Mi casa le dara nuestro voto a Cecilia Iglesias!!
Cecilia you have my Vote!! You are a Real True Woman with “High Moral Values” that has Opened doors for others! You have Volunteered for various organizations and Founded a non-profit Organization for the deaf and hard of hearing, Now this Shows “LEADERSHIP” Move on Loretta let the Young Ones with Fresh Ideas TAKE OVER!!

(In my way of thinking, he has provided her [US Rep Loretta Sanchez] a “cheat sheet”)
MY RESPONSE:
The questions and solutions should not be a mystery.
I think if I have “helped” Loretta with my questions as has been implied, I know I have also “helped” Cecilia with my questions because it also gives her a chance to DEVELOP and provide more SPECIFICITY to her ideas…and the one that should hopefully be helped greatly in the end will be our CD #47 because we will have a deeper understanding of the IDEAS and EXPECTED OUTCOMES against a past RECORD.
P.S. “Just in Time” with respect to your comment, please see my posts/response in particular #48 at:

Francisco “Paco” Barragan (my opinion only and not those of any group)
Francisco “Paco”, I agree with you in generating questions; after all we are the community and should demand our questions to be answered, not by Cecilia only, but by every elected official. Our national logo is “We the People, For the People and By the People”
We the People, need to hold all officials accountable and to represent our community well. This is when the community needs to be wise on whom they should select to be their representative in Washington.
Paco, my view is this, I have supported Loretta for many years, but I am so dissapointed on how disconnected she is with the community. We only see her around election time and sadly to say, the “Latino” community has voted for her just because she changed her last name back to “Sanchez”, the only tide she has with the “Latino” community is her last name and that has been so misleading for many years and really is outdated.
We the People, demand new representation, I want to give Cecilia an opportunity to represent us, we need new blood in Washington D.C. I believe that she will make changes and will voice our concerns. By reading the previous comments, she has experience as Contract Administrater and also has founded her own Non-Profit Organization for the Deaf community and many other services for the past 19 years. That tells me that she has initiative and will “Represent” us well because she has what it takes.
Cecilia good luck and I hope that you will be our elected official for our “District 47”
Francisco and Rudy…do you guys plan on attending Ceci’s campaign kick-off on the 17th? Just curious…
Cecilia good luck and I hope that you will be our elected official for our campaign and my man told me about u and u will go my vote!
I have been a strong supporter of US Rep Loretta Sanchez.
I also volunteered for her sister US Rep Linda Sanchez when she first ran for office in Whittier and won (I used to commute from Riverside County to Whittier/LA County to volunteer.)
However, I will be scrutinizing all candidates closely.
Incumbency or last name or party label, should not be a blind guarantee to election or reelection.
We have too many critical issues at our District and National level.
I will see if I can make it to Ceci’s event, as long as it doesn’t conflict with all my other volunteer activities.
I believe in a marketplace of ideas. It is the responsibility of the candidate or incumbent to develop and communicate their platform, and it is our duty as voters to hear and evaluate those.
Francisco “Paco” Barragan (My opinion only and not those any group)
Ceci has touched so many lives. She has done so much for the community.
Her continuous spirit to help others, did not start last April 17 ,2010.
She will be a true voice for our 47th district in Washington.
