Craig Hunter is trying to pass himself off as a 2nd Amendment warrior, claiming to support gun-rights legislation to open up concealed weapons permits (CCW’s) to all citizens.
But the 2nd amendment hasn’t always been that simple for Hunter. A year and half ago, he approached the Board of Supervisors and expressed “comfort” with the current system that allows the Sheriff to arbitrarily restrict permits (and thus the Constitutional right to bear arms) to any law-abiding citizen.
So what changed Hunter’s position on constitutional gun rights?

Bill Hunt for sheriff:)
YOu Hunt Guys will try anything to save your loosing candidate. Here is what I heard from Craig when I asked him to clarify. And his letter in support of AB357 has been on his webpage and FB for months.
A video of my interview before the board of supervisors has been posted online, with the insinuation that I somehow do not support the rights of Orange County residents. Here is the truth of what I said: California is a ‘may issue’ state in contrast to the nearly 40 ‘shall issue’ states. I am on record in support of AB 357 which would bring California in line with these other states, a position which I am convinced is correct following Sandra Hutchens’ use of existing law to restrict the Second Amendment rights of Orange County residents. I believe the sheriff can follow existing law until it is changed without burdening law abiding citizens with onerous requirements in order to exercise their fundamental right to self defense. The restrictions I referenced are ones most people feel are appropriate, including training requirements and background checks, which are in place in nearly every shall issue state. What Sandra Hutchens has done is create an nearly impossible standard for issuance, and then affix restrictions to 85% of the standard CCW licenses she’s issued, arbitrarily limiting the ability of ordinary citizens to defend themselves. That policy ends my first day in office.
Hey Anon. Like Travis said Hunter only became pro second amendment after being brought into the race by Schroeder and Block. You can’t change your spots and you can’t rewrite history (eg the smoking gun video)
There is no spinning the words of Hunter himself. He says he does not favor “shall issue”. Dont take any one’s word for it, listen to the clip.
Hunter is going to loose the little support he had among the CCW activists. Maybe Schroeder and Block will stick with him but the troops wont.
Travis, great work taking the time to find this. I am not happy it is true but I am happy that I learned this BEFORE casting my vote.
So Hunter’s comments that he is comfortable operating under current state law makes you think I will change my support for him as one of the CCW Activists? Not likely. I have met with Hunter and discussed this issue. He impresses me as a man of his word. When he tells me face to face that he will have a policy of issuing CCW with the least restrictive policy possible under state law. I believe him. As a fellow Scoutmaster, frankly, I trust him.
Hunt and his followers can try to spin this any way they want to deflect attention from Hunt’s shortcomings, but it won’t work on me. If it doesn’t work on me, you can count on it not working on others.
All these Craig Hunter anons can leave. You guys smell like paid political consultant blog trolls. I happen to be a scoutmaster myself and I support bill hunt.
