When I suggested that we replace the Dale Griggs Lawn Bowling Center, located at Santa Ana’s Santiago Park, I had no idea what the sport of lawn bowling was all about. But I had an idea that the lawn bowlers were not from Santa Ana.
Don’t ask by the way who Dale Griggs is. I tried to find out. I suspect he was a past elected official. There is almost no information about him available on the Internet. But his name still lingers at Santiago Park.
Yesterday I took my dog for a walk – and brought my camera. As you can see in the slide show above, these folks don’t appear to be from Santa Ana. One of the cars, which had a lawn bowler license plate, even had a City of Fountain Valley sticker on it.
Here is what the Santa Ana Lawn Bowling Club has to say about themselves and their sport, on their website:

why, because they are white… Why don’t you go down to the bowling green on the day these folks bowl hold up a sign saying
“ITS A CRIME TO BE WHITE IN THIS CITY”.
Art, what is it about Mexicans (not lumping all latinas with this group) why do you so want segration??
I remember the big stink about the Mexican football player’s in Costa Mesa – so its ok for Mexicans to play games in a mostly white city, but not ok for white’s to play games in a brown city???
MAYBE RESIDENTS OF CM DON”T LIKE FOOTBALL , WHITE’S WOULD RATHER BOWL OR PLAY TENNIS!
STUPIT REALLY, SANTA ANA MIGHT AS WELL BE SOUTH AFICA!
I won’t feel good until I only see lowriders outside the lawnbowling center. Si Se Puede!
Hey!
Forget lawn bowling…
That activity never was a hit…
My suggestion is to develop that space for a “Curling” center.
It would pay for itself in about 6 months and would bring a much needed diverse crowd back to the area.
#3,
I think you need a polished surface to do curling, if you mean the Winter Olympic event.
Maybe they can do that in a local school gym or something along those lines.
There are other projects I am also pursuing, including a skate park in Santiago Park.
One way or another, we need to take back our park – and our city.
Art,
Ice, yes ice, you need ice for curling.
A proposal would include the development of mini ice rinks. See front page article in Monday’s LA Times…
Michelle it’s all my fault I made it a crime to be white in Santa Ana.
Don’t feel guility i myself have a bluish tinge to me.. I am going to start a new game in Santa Ana …hurling!
