World Opinion Rallying Against US “Occupation” of Haiti
France Protests
“This is about helping Haiti, not about occupying Haiti,” the French Minister in charge of humanitarian relief said.
Chavez says U.S. occupying Haiti in name of aid
CARACAS (Reuters) – Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez on Sunday accused the United States of using the earthquake in Haiti as a pretext to occupy the devastated Caribbean country…
“I read that 3,000 soldiers are arriving, Marines armed as if they were going to war. There is not a shortage of guns there, my God. Doctors, medicine, fuel, field hospitals, that’s what the United States should send,” Chavez said on his weekly television show. “They are occupying Haiti undercover.”
Anger built Saturday at Haiti’s US-controlled main airport, where aid flights were still being turned away and poor coordination continued to hamper the relief effort four days on. “Let’s take over the runway,” shouted one voice. “We need to send a message to (US President Barack) Obama,” cried another.
– Does it sound like we’re wanted there?

Haiti Streets as Aid Fails to Arrive
CNN… THERE”S JUST STUPID DEATH HAPPENING
Let me get this straight. Haiti has a natural disaster and we are committed to doing something about it. Fine. Excellent. Line up the donation venues.
But Rwanda has 800,000 to 1,000,000 murdered and we do nothing about it. 28,000,000 in Afghanistan are beseiged by a 6th century bloodlust mentality where they play soccer with the heads of the executed for sport, and the Progressives and the Left want to leave those people to their fate. 7,000,000 Hindus are still displaced from their ancestral homes when Pakistan was forcibly carved out of India and they were driven out, and we have never uttered a syllable about it.
Yet, we are going to send our men and women in uniform into harms way to save these people. We are going to brave machete wielding mobs to bring people food and water, but we won’t bring others freedom or save them from backwater executioners. In the emotion driven world of the Progressive, this probably makes sense. But it makes no sense to me.
Using the military for meals on wheels, as they do every time they have the Oval Office, is precisely what the military IS NOT good for. The military is not a finely edged weapon, it is a blunt instrument. To the mother with the infant, the state of their lives, the daily toil to bring enough food and water into the home for survival, whether they live under a brutal religious regime or they just had an earthquake, makes no difference. The privations are the same. Yet, somehow, the Left finds a place in its heart for THIS kind of magnanimous behaviour and criticizes it the rest of the time.
What hypocrisy.
Don’t talk to me about how BAD it is in Haiti. There are 9 times more murders in Jamaica per 100,000 people. Compared to life in Afghanistan, even post-earthquake Port Au Prince would be a paradise. At least there the Left would treat them like they are human beings worthy of living.
“If you compare Haiti to Iraq, to Afghanistan, to Rwanda, we don’t even appear on the same scale,” says Patrick Elie, a former defense secretary who heads a government commission on the possible creation of a new security force.
There were more aid workers, UN workers and humanitarians in Haiti than in ANY other country BEFORE the earthquake. And now we are going to send in more? Fine. Donate to your local Red Cross. Don’t tell me Obama has the obligation to send more tax dollars there when they could be used at home.
Isn’t that the Leftist refrain from helping out anywhere else? What’s so different about Haiti? Nothing, except that it makes the Left feel better. And that’s all that matters. This is the only way they know how to use the American military, so they don’t want to waste the chance.
I gave my donation at the Red Cross table, bought the Car Wash Upgrade for the donation, and gave at the grocery store. Don’t tell me what our obligation is Leftists. You have fallen down on the job everywhere else.
So you’re with Rush on this one. It figures.
In other words, you’re with the lunatic, cantankerous, far Right. The 10% of the population that hates and/or fears just about everything. And another example of your isolationism…unless, of course, it involves bombing people.
Oh and one more thing…some events REALLY should be above politics. You don’t have to politicize EVERYTHING…whether you’re coming from the left or the right.
Just a fine example of the neo-con version of Progressivism ladies and gentlemen.
DON’T YOU DARE CRITICIZE US WHEN WE ARE TRYING TO DO GOOD!!! THIS INTERNATIONALISM IS JUST FINE!!
(Except when others want to save people from torture or dictators. We think there’s no reason to interrupt that.)
What an insult to our troops and volunteers. I guess Terry would prefer that Halliburton get a no-bid contract for Haiti.
Sigh. (shake head sadly)
It’s times like these George Orwell is laughing in his grave. The Left standard bearers can call our troops terrorizers, compare them to Pol Pot, baby killers, you name it. But when they use the military, they are above reproach. Do they really think anyone takes them seriously? Shameful.
I don’t think the military is being used for “Meals on Wheels.” Haiti has no infrastructure and no functioning government. They don’t even have a fire station. You can’t send aid workers in there without troops to keep them safe. You need troops to prevent riots and looting, to impose a curfew. In other words to impose order.
But do you really think our troops are going to leave? I have a feeling we will take over Haiti. Once we send our troops somehwere, we ususally don’t pull them out. We made the Haitian President sign over control of the airport to our military. Was that really necessary?
In any case, I wish that Obama showed as much passion for helping Americans. The government now seems to care more about giving our nation’s wealth to the banks and speading it overseas. They don’t care if Americans are out of work, or if state budgets are being slashed.
How miserable to be Crowley. I guess we each react to a disaster like this according to our own natures. Props on your donation to Red Cross at least.
The military is actually very good at being “meals on wheels” when they have to, and according to all reports the troops really feel good about doing humanitarian work.
And pray tell, who are these “Left standard bearers” who have called our troops “terrorizers, Pol Pot, baby killers, you name it.” The very revered and influential Ward Churchill? Some nameless wild-eyed hippie at some rally in ’68? Or just the leftist boogiemen who haunt your tortured dreams? I guess that does add up.
Hey Vern!
John Kerry
Dick Turbin
More than 72 hours after the earthquake.
Outside Haiti Capital, Much Despair And Little Aid
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=122655887
As aid masses in Haiti’s devastated capital, time is running out in rural areas where the damage is no less severe. In Leogane, frustrated men gathered Saturday with machetes and clubs, ready to fight for a town they said the world has forgotten.
All along the cracked highway heading west from Port-au-Prince along the bay, people begged for help. “SOS,” declared a sign near Leogane. “We don’t understand why everything is going to Port-au-Prince, because Leogane was broken too.”
It’s already a failure. Not a good year to be a Leftie. Good luck!
Yeah I see the stupid titles your allies gave to those two videos. Kerry of course did not call our troops terrorists, if you bother to listen to his extremely reasonable and respectful remarks. And that famous and controversial Durbin speech was decrying the policies that our troops are ordered to carry out, although I see it’s cut cleverly. This is lame gotcha shit. The best you’ve got, huh. I repeat, no “left standard bearers” or respected Democratic leaders have spoken disrespectfully of the troops.
And I see your glee at the inevitable glitches we’re having over there right now. Sick. I think it’s a good time to be an American, and I have no idea how “Leftie” factors in to that. Sad that you and Rush hope this nation fails, on Haitian aid and everything else.
Well Vern, you DO realize that Crowley believes that American troops can do no wrong, right? That is exactly the reality-free world he inhabits.
EXCEPT, anon, that they are a “blunt instrument” incapable of delivering humanitarian aid. At least as long as their commander-in-chief is a Democrat. Do I have that straight?
This is where the Lefties can’t help but show their true colors. Here I am, calling them out on this, and the best they can do is “oh, he thinks American troops can do no wrong!” HAHAHAHAHAHA! The next thing someone is going to say is “we’re the ones spreading torture”. (wiping tear from eye)
I have said nothing about Obama in this piece. Actually, he may turn out to be a slightly better President than I expected, which ain’t much. He is actually making the Left feed on itself in so many areas. Imagine! Finding out that reality ain’t the dogma you preach to your choir. Priceless!
By the way, anyone who thinks the Left appreciates the military, say “Cindy Sheehan and the Pink Burqas!” and raise your hand.
Terry, as a person apparently to the right, I would have thought you would realize all this help, including sending troops, is designed to keep 7 million poverty stricken likely immigrants in their country rather than see them come here. It is a containment strategy, stupid.
“said nothing about Obama.” What BS, this post is about Obama. And your last sentence is the dumbest of all. What new lows will you be capable of hitting next?
The trouble is, AMERICA (or at the very least it’s elected leadership) were responsible for nearly 100,000 civilian deaths in Iraq. Allthe while ignoring the strife in Africa which you so freely cite now.
What is it that you want as a conservative, Should we ignore the disaster in Hati, like we did in New Orleans. Should we drop some selective NUKES on Karachi (w/collateral damage around a million lives).
I find it curious that you lodge your arguement and than brag that you upgraded your car wash. You sound like a real asshole to me.
Dead on.. Terry you nailed it!
To the left we are only able to help people of colour (the underserved and the vulnerable), but we are not allowed to stop them form murdering each other…
See no evil, hear no evil, see no evil – unless it is a natural disaster.
When they hung the 16yr old girl in Iran for being raped, i wonder if the 100 men who stood to watch her hanging were afraid that maybe the US army just might come to save her!
I wonder just how many more kids die each year from,”man made disasters”, caused by religious wack jobs!
Why do they get a pass from the left, i wonder?
C’mon Crowley. That survey is completely unreasonable.
Crowley,
One more thing. It is hardly surprising that Haiti is in chaos. That isn’t Obama’s fault. In a mass catastrophe, in a third world country, this is exactly what one would expect.
Even here in the U.S., we had merchants marking water up to $5 a gallon after the Northridge earthquake. And have you forgotten the Rodney King riots?
The people in Haiti are desperate. Some of the bad ones have guns. Many of the good ones don’t. Bad mix.
I do wonder however why Hugo Chavez didn’t take the point in Haiti. He is allowing Obama to rebuild our reputation in that hemisphere. Perhaps this tragedy will bring those divergent interests together?
You’re not up on your Haiti news Art. Danny Glover is on site there and had this to say about how Venezuela, Cuba and Brazil are all spearheading this while the US dawdles…
From Crowley;
“It’s been 120 hours since the earthquake… it only took four days for FEMA to screw up in New Orleans.
Is the Obama Administration failing to help the earthquake victims?”
Gosh, Terry you think there might be some DIFFERENCES between the situation in New Orleans and Haiti, like one was IN THE US and one is on FOREIGN SOIL, or how about the fact that the US weather service was TRACKING KATRINA for DAYS AHEAD of her landfall as opposed to an earthquake where there is NO PRIOR WARNING.
“There were more aid workers, UN workers and humanitarians in Haiti than in ANY other country BEFORE the earthquake. And now we are going to send in more? Fine. Donate to your local Red Cross. Don’t tell me Obama has the obligation to send more tax dollars there when they could be used at home.”
FYI Terry, from the AP;
updated 3:13 p.m. PT, Thurs., Jan. 14, 2010
“MIAMI – Haiti’s limitless poverty and hardship have long drawn aid groups and charities from across the world. Now the same people who tried to do good before the earthquake find themselves trapped in the rubble, out of touch with their loved ones and struggling to carry on their missions.
The head of the Roman Catholic Church in Haiti was killed. Thirty six United Nations workers were killed; scores more are missing or trapped in their collapsed headquarters. Missionaries, students, doctors and others are missing or out of contact.”
“I have said nothing about Obama in this piece.”
God, you can’t even keep in touch with reality for even a few minutes!
The astounding idiocy and ignorance of Terry Crowley never fails to amaze me.
According to the Warmers like Danny Glover, this is a direct response to our failure in Copenhagen. Surely the Lefts dogma that predicts this should have known???
Funny stuff, funny stuff. We’ve all known for a long time that Crowley doesn’t care if what he writes makes any sense or not, as long as he’s somehow insulting “the Left.” And any situation no matter how horrible and tragic is for him just another opportunity to do that. And his only adherent here is the supremely ignorant and spiteful Michelle Quinn.
This Haiti crisis will be going on a long time. I suppose we can look forward to a long series of Crowley posts gloating over each week’s inevitable glitches and disappointments. File with Rush Limbaugh under “rooting for America to fail.”
Terry,
Wow, sorry, I didn’t realize Danny Glover had spoken, that changes everything, I had forgotten that we had elected Danny Glover(unanimously, of course) to speak for ALL us Democrats, leftists, liberals, progressives, socialists, feminazis, commie pinkos and fags.
Terry you are so SUPER smart, your like Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman and Glenn Beck rolled into one ginormous mass of brain power! Awesome dude!
