What pretext Haiti?

France Protests

“This is about helping Haiti, not about occupying Haiti,” the French Minister in charge of humanitarian relief said.

Chavez says U.S. occupying Haiti in name of aid

CARACAS (Reuters) – Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez on Sunday accused the United States of using the earthquake in Haiti as a pretext to occupy the devastated Caribbean country…

“I read that 3,000 soldiers are arriving, Marines armed as if they were going to war. There is not a shortage of guns there, my God. Doctors, medicine, fuel, field hospitals, that’s what the United States should send,” Chavez said on his weekly television show. “They are occupying Haiti undercover.”

Anger at US builds at Port-au-Prince airport

Anger built Saturday at Haiti’s US-controlled main airport, where aid flights were still being turned away and poor coordination continued to hamper the relief effort four days on.  “Let’s take over the runway,” shouted one voice. “We need to send a message to (US President Barack) Obama,” cried another.

Does it sound like we’re wanted there?

CNN… THERE”S JUST STUPID DEATH HAPPENING

Let me get this straight. Haiti has a natural disaster and we are committed to doing something about it. Fine. Excellent. Line up the donation venues.

But Rwanda has 800,000 to 1,000,000 murdered and we do nothing about it. 28,000,000 in Afghanistan are beseiged by a 6th century bloodlust mentality where they play soccer with the heads of the executed for sport, and the Progressives and the Left want to leave those people to their fate. 7,000,000 Hindus are still displaced from their ancestral homes when Pakistan was forcibly carved out of India and they were driven out, and we have never uttered a syllable about it.

Yet, we are going to send our men and women in uniform into harms way to save these people. We are going to brave machete wielding mobs to bring people food and water, but we won’t bring others freedom or save them from backwater executioners. In the emotion driven world of the Progressive, this probably makes sense. But it makes no sense to me.

Using the military for meals on wheels, as they do every time they have the Oval Office, is precisely what the military IS NOT good for. The military is not a finely edged weapon, it is a blunt instrument. To the mother with the infant, the state of their lives, the daily toil to bring enough food and water into the home for survival, whether they live under a brutal religious regime or they just had an earthquake, makes no difference. The privations are the same. Yet, somehow, the Left finds a place in its heart for THIS kind of magnanimous behaviour and criticizes it the rest of the time.

What hypocrisy.

Don’t talk to me about how BAD it is in Haiti. There are 9 times more murders in Jamaica per 100,000 people. Compared to life in Afghanistan, even post-earthquake Port Au Prince would be a paradise. At least there the Left would treat them like they are human beings worthy of living.

“If you compare Haiti to Iraq, to Afghanistan, to Rwanda, we don’t even appear on the same scale,” says Patrick Elie, a former defense secretary who heads a government commission on the possible creation of a new security force.

There were more aid workers, UN workers and humanitarians in Haiti than in ANY other country BEFORE the earthquake. And now we are going to send in more? Fine. Donate to your local Red Cross. Don’t tell me Obama has the obligation to send more tax dollars there when they could be used at home.

Isn’t that the Leftist refrain from helping out anywhere else? What’s so different about Haiti? Nothing, except that it makes the Left feel better. And that’s all that matters. This is the only way they know how to use the American military, so they don’t want to waste the chance.

I gave my donation at the Red Cross table, bought the Car Wash Upgrade for the donation, and gave at the grocery store. Don’t tell me what our obligation is Leftists. You have fallen down on the job everywhere else.
