Open letter to Scott Baugh, Chairman OC GOP Central Committee

Honorable Chairman Baugh,

Having read your Central Committee speech there is no question that “These are the times that try men’s souls.”

Sorry that I missed your Central Committee meeting as I would have enjoyed listening to your speech and posting it on the Orange Juice blog. However, I was speaking at the Mission Viejo city council meeting on two different issues which presented a timing conflict.

In reading (page 12) of your speech you stated that “even here in conservative Orange County electing people with an “R” behind their name has [have] not yielded freedom based outcomes.”

That message might have been written for our city council where the majority has mirrored the actions you describe be it doubling of their monthly stipend using a formula where they are given credit for time that predates their individual election to office, giving themselves access to taxpayer funded, lifetime health care, for a part-time position, even though Lance MacLean did a dog and pony act that could be reversed by a simple majority if he survives the current recall.

How about Republicans spending around $400,000 of taxpayer funds for a feel good entry in last years Tournament of Roses parade without justification?

On page 15 you caution elected officials about taking union money or endorsements which triggers another Mission Viejo comment. AOCDS President Wayne Quint Jr., friend of Frank Ury, is spending thousands of dollars in airing prime-time TV commercials, mailings and yard signs opposing the recall of Mayor Lance MacLean, the same person who fought off four police in a UCI confrontation which might have cost him his job as a UCI Director as they took him to the ground in handcuffs as he resisted. This is the first cause of action in the recall Yes, we are the safest city in CA, led by a Mayor with serious anger management problems.

And the $64,000 question. What is the quid pro quo for this massive OCSD union expenditure?

We agree with another part of your speech that “you want to see that the abuses in our local, state and federal governments are too great to ignore. They are leading to our demise.”  Look around. Start with your former MV GOTV Captain Frank Ury.

Perhaps you have not heard that your good friend, Mission Viejo councilman Frank Ury, is supporting Democrat Dave Leckness in the Lance MacLean recall election that is being held in two weeks on Feb 2nd. The other candidate, Dale Tyler, is a true conservative who is a card carrying fiscal conservative Republican who supports smaller government and who has been endorsed by the California Republican Assembly.

Let me remind Chairman Baugh and Central Committee members that at my request you rejected an endorsement for city councilman Lance MacLean when he came hat in hand for your 2006 endorsement. This was at a meeting where I provided a photo of Lance in front of his house with a yard sign supporting Democrat Dan Joseph, our former city manager, in the 2004 city council election. Ironically, Frank Ury was in agreement with me in making that request during the same Central Committee meeting yet he now supports Lance.

And to make matters worse, councilman Frank Ury recently served as your GOTV City Captain for Mission Viejo when my garage was used for that effort. I guess I am not the only one who failed in vetting out local politicians.
