It is nice to see that Phu is not pricing everyone out of this event!
Here is Nguyen’s campaign message, from his website:
Dear Friends, Thank you for visiting my website.
In the coming weeks and months, I hope to earn your vote to become the next representative for the 68th district, which includes all or parts of the Cities of Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Westminster, Stanton, Anaheim and Newport Beach. As I walk the neighborhoods and listen to your concerns, I am touched by personal stories about how these tough times are affecting so many of us and in so many different ways. It is certain, now more than ever, that we must address this challenge as one community. We can only defeat the recession if we act in unison, with a common future, and fight for every neighborhood business, every school, every senior citizen, every child, and every working family.
We must not quit and we will not quit, because that fighting spirit is what made this country great. A generation ago, we were faced with a Great Depression and a Great War, but we came out stronger and determined to succeed on the world stage. We did not give up nor give in to narrow, self-serving interests.
Unfortunately, too many of our elected officials have given up. They have raised the white flag and surrendered to the lobbyists and the special interests in Sacramento. Too many of our representatives have failed to be accountable toward the people who elected them. They have given up on supporting sustainable jobs. They have given up on a first class education for our children. They have given up on adequate health care for Californians, especially to seniors. And, they have given up on protecting our parks, beaches and harbors. Notably in Costa Mesa, our treasured fairgrounds is in danger. Lastly, some elected leaders have failed to bring our communities together. Instead, they have deliberately and cynically created clashes among cultures to benefit their own political ambitions. It is clear-our elected representatives just don’t seem to care about the needs and people of our district.
Our backgrounds might be different, but the challenges that we face are shared. So, in order to address our common issues, it is my hope that our communities come together and work together to live together in better times. As Abraham Lincoln once said, “we must learn to live together as brothers, or we will perish together as fools.”
I believe we have a responsibility, not only to ourselves, but to our children, to leave the world a better place than we found it. In order to create the change we want to see, all of us must first be part of that change. Please join me in making OUR dream a reality.
Respectfully,
Phu Nguyen
sounds like an illegal alien lover. Vote Mansoor for rule of law.
You see what a dumb, knee-jerk racist “deadwhitemale” is? There’s nothing at all in this post about immigration. The only explanation for his “sounds like an illegal alien lover” is that Lou Correa, Loretta Sanchez, and Tony Mendoza will be there. And what do those fine elected officials have to do with illegal aliens? Well…. I guess they’re just Latin-American!
Vote Mansoor if you’re a dead white hate-filled male. Otherwise, I’ll see you at Phu’s bash!
Another asian guy up for election, great! Pretty soon will all be marching down city streets and crying on command!
Vern Nelson: if you think my ascertation that he sounds like an illegal alien lover from the above story (there are lots of “code words” in his quotes that lead me to believe it)is wrong, so be it. When you see him, ask him and report back. But YOU really jump conclusions by calling me a racist. Geez dude, step up your game. The race card is so last century.
Nobody “loves” illegal immigration. Although of course you said “loves illegal immigrants.” That’s kind of weird. For one thing that’s a hell of a lot of people to “love.” Maybe you feel it’s better for us to “hate” them.
I’m speaking out of school not having consulted with Phu on this, but I would guess his position on immigration is similar to his friend Loretta’s, and many reasonable politicians all the way to McCain and Bush, that our immigration system is in dire need of reform, and that the border should be secure. Not sure exactly what that would have to do with “love” or “hate”, but Phu’s a nice guy and doesn’t seem like much of a hater. Will update if I find out more…
but I am still a racist, right?
Well deadwhite, I know you’re being flippant, and you think the word racist is self-evidently meaningless and overdue to be retired, but … well let’s see, what were the “code words” that made you call Phu an “illegal immigrant lover”? [really, so close to your dead white granddad’s ‘n**ger lover’]
My first guess would be this paragraph:
Our backgrounds might be different, but the challenges that we face are shared. So, in order to address our common issues, it is my hope that our communities come together and work together to live together in better times. As Abraham Lincoln once said, “we must learn to live together as brothers, or we will perish together as fools.”
That offends you, doesn’t it? I don’t think it would offend most Americans. I would ask you to look in the mirror and reflect “If I’m not racist, who is?” except I’m suspecting you’d have no problem with the answer. At least in private.
I hear Phu Nguyen has hired Misha Houser to manage his campaign. Looks like Mansoor has already won.
Poor Phu could’ve been a contender but unfortunately he got some bad advice and hired an inept and unqualified joke to run his campaign.
No need to even discuss this race anymore. With Houser running the show Mansoor is assured victory.
Sean, thank you for that, but I had thought me and the dead white one were having a constructive dialogue on racism. I hope he doesn’t now feel absolved to scurry off.
Sorry guys! Carry on!

LOL LOL
Hey- I am 1/4 Japanese–replace the “asian” please… be more specific-
LOL!
Vern Nelson: I am scurrying off because you and your hate for anyone who doesn’t think like you is too disturbing to even reply to. I have better things to do than carry on a one sided “dialog” of name calling. But yes, using racist charges have made the word racist change from its original meaning to just meaning that the other guy does not agree with you.
Comical, this last whiny comment, when you consider how this whole exchange started – with DWM gratuitously calling Phu an “illegal immigrant lover.” He never did explain what he meant by that.
