As reported by newsmax, Voters Prefer Tea Party to Republican Party
More Americans would vote for a congressional candidate from a hypothetical Tea Party than for a Republican, a Rasmussen Reports national poll reveals.
Respondents to the poll were asked: “Suppose the tea party movement organized itself as a political party. When thinking about the next election for Congress, would you vote for the Republican candidate from your district, the Democratic candidate from your district, or the Tea Party candidate from your district?”
The result of the three-way generic ballot: The Democrats attracted 36 percent of the vote, the Tea Party candidates 23 percent, and the Republicans 18 percent, with the rest undecided.
Among respondents not affiliated with either the Democratic or Republican Party, the Tea Party candidates came out on top with 33 percent of the vote, while 25 percent chose the Democrats and just 12 percent preferred the GOP, with 30 percent undecided.
Even among Republican respondents, the vote was close, with GOP candidates getting 39 percent of the vote to the Tea Party’s 33 percent.
Overall, Tea Party candidates beat the Republicans among both men and women, and in all age groups except those over 65, Rasmussen Reports disclosed, but pointed out: “In practical terms, it is unlikely that a true third-party option would perform as well as the polling data indicate.”
The tea party movement arose out of opposition to big government, increased federal spending, the economic stimulus plan and tax increases, and rose to prominence when it organized protest gatherings across the country earlier this year.
The Rasmussen survey also found that 41 percent of voters believe Republicans and Democrats are so much alike that a new party is needed to represent the American people.
Also, polling shows that 73 percent of Republican voters think their leaders in Washington are out of touch with the party base.
Both Republicans and Democrats will rue the day they did not take seriously the Tea Party movement. Democrats may feel like they have made gains with this bastardized health care bill but it will cost them politically for many, many years.
Ho ho ho! I love the way state run media ignore the Tea Party when they think it will hurt the radical leftist agenda (ignoring massive protests in DC and nationwide). But they will cover it when they think it will benefit the left – such as encouraging a third party that will draw more voters from the GOP then Democrats.
(Yes, I know the source is this post is newsmax and not state run media. The point remains true because of coverage of this and similar polls being reported in state run media.)
Is the GOP out of touch? Yes. And the Democrats even worse. Should we form a third party? No.
No! We don’t need a 3rd party – the GOP has the No! voters.
after this health care mess i see a total cleaning of the house and the senate . nobama will lose both house n senate .
Rogue,
The GOP has only itself to blame for its malaise.
I don’t trust either the GOP or the Dems.
As a Libertarian, I cannot expect many electoral victories, but at least I can wash my hand of the red and blue parties.
I suppose if you broke up loyal Democrats with people who call themselves more Progressive (like me) you might get a similar result, but still… fun stuff.
I was going to put up a video of Senator Whitehouse speaking on the Republicans’ day of reckoning, but it’s so good I’ll give it its own post.
(BTW James, I’m removing the apostrophe from your title if you don’t mind; “Republicans” is just a plural, not possessive.)
The Tea Party and the GOP are the same party their just rebuilding their base. Palin will be their new cheer leader thats for sure with all the press she is getting mark my words…
Politics have gotten so trivial finding someone to take a real position these days is impossible.
IF the tea party and the Republicans are the same party, someone better tell the voters.
The latest CNN poll has Obama’s ratings headed back up. 54% now approve of his job preformance, up from 48% a couple of weeks ago.
I think that keeping his promise to reform health care, if it passes, will help democrats in the mid terms. It will be a big promise kept, something that rarely happens anymore.
