The issue of legal status in order to obtain driving privileges has bubbled up in Ohio. Bloomberg News reports that the League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC) has sued the State of Ohio to prevent enforcement of a new Ohio law.
It seems the law requires that proof of legal residency be provided in order for a person to register a vehicle. The law, which took effect in August, requires that a person seeking to register a vehicle in Ohio provide an Ohio driver’s license, an Ohio identification card, or social security number.
The State LULC president is quoted as saying that LULAC feels this requirement is an attempt by the State to enforce federal immigration laws. He also said this is an attempt by the state to force undocumented people to leave Ohio. Among the claims in the lawsuit is that federal law bars states from carrying our federal duties, such as immigration enforcement.
The State has sent out thousands of letters threatening involving 47,000 vehicle registrations, saying they will be canceled December 8 unless documentation is submitted.
I wonder if the Vegas and New Jersey betting parlors are giving odds on how this one turns out.

what language did they send the notices out in? Did they include voter registration cards with the letters as well as an invite from the state of CA to come give birth to your babies gratis? If not, LULAC should expand the lawsuit. Also, I heard they arrested a man in Ohio for beating his wife. Are they trying to get wife beaters to leave Ohio? I am glad that ohio came up with this law. They come into our country and are able to get medicaid and welfare assistance but yet our government can’t give assistance to the actual legal citizens in this country. I am so sick and tired of illegals getting away with everything. The government needs to take more actions by putting out stronger laws on illegals taking advantage of the system. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS ORGANIZATION IS SUING THE STATE OF OHIO FOR THIS. I back the state in this effort. If you cant prove your a citizen, and that you love in Ohio then you shouldnt be ablt to register a vehicle! I cant not beleave this group is sueing the state! They will not win, so I am not worried. BECOME A CITIZEN/OHIOAN OR GET OUT OF OUR STATE!
I know that the org. won’t win this one, but don’t believe that you need to be an ohio citizen to be in the state of Ohio as the above comment said, but you do need to be an Ohio citizen to register a vehicle in Ohio. Frankly, I’m surprised this wasn’t in place long before now.
