Interview: Max Blumenthal’s “Republican Gomorrah”

Fifty years ago, Republican President Dwight Eisenhower issued a warning against the rise of extremist movements within his own party.   “Many prominent officials, possessing no standing or expertness as they themselves claim it, attempt to further their own ideas or interests by resorting to statements more distinguished by stridency than by accuracy.”   Half a century later, in a summer of town hall disruptions and birth certificate controversies, what Eisenhower had warned against has come true: that the Republican Party has been captured by its extremist wing. At least that’s what award-winning journalist Max Blumenthal argues in his new book, Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party.   Full Transcript LINK  Here.

This interview is in three parts. It is absolutely fascinating because it explains things so well – WHY was Palin the face of the GOP now? How did the party get here and it examines at how dangerous the party is to progressive ideals and agendas. He is critical of Obama’s attempts to try to work with bipartisan methods, when clearly the GOP has NO intent at all of cooperating. Dobson plays a big figure in where the GOP is at now. He also describes Howard Ahmanson’s influence in the California Prop 8 vote. Details are complete with the loss of his father at 18, subsequent mental break down and Dobson moving in as a surrogate father figure for Ahmanson who spends millions of dollars supporting Dobson agendas. There is a culture of child abuse and a culture of personal crisis that has shaped current GOP ideals and has created a new generation of Republican Shock Troops that assail democratic freedoms of our nation. S&M practices run deep in the shadows of the current GOP party.  View all three. The author is extremely well-spoken and clear about the subject matter.
