Did Chris Norby send campaign emails to County workers?
UPDATE: The Orange County Register has picked up our story, “Norby campaign consultant Matt Holder said the mailing this week was made in error – that county employees’ names should have been removed from the mailing list and that no contributions will be accepted from employees responding to the email.”
“Supervisor Chris Norby sent out an oddly timed mass email today about his bid to become the next county clerk-recorder. But it did manage to rouse me to compare his fundraising totals with those of opponent Hugh Nguyen, a former chief deputy recorder,” according to the Total Buzz blog.
It was a bizarre email. It had nothing new to say. And a pajarito reports that Norby sent the email to various county workers – to their county email addresses.
Ruh roh! Is it legal for Norby to send political email to County workers who did not request that such email be sent to them at work?
Did GOP consultant John Lewis have anything to do with this? What about current Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly?
Norby crossed the line by sending campaign email to county workers. Is he getting desperate as his opponent, Hugh Nguyen, keeps racking up endorsements?

Norby has rubbed a few people the wrong way and Nguyen was the beneficiary with some noteworthy early endorsements for the 2010 race to replace Tom Daly. Among those throwing their support Nguyen’s way are state Sens. Mimi Walters and Bob Huff, for state Sens. Marian Bergeson and Dick Ackerman, former Supervisor Cynthia Coad, major GOP donor Dale Dykema and a handful of city council members.
Perhaps Norby should quit now and retire? How can he be our next Clerk-Recorder when he and his lame campaign staff can’t even figure out how to send campaign emails?
I received an email from Chris Norby. I work for the County of Orange and was wondering why he would send me the email.
When I started working for the County of Orange I had to sign a document that says I can’t use the email for personal use. He used the email for his campaign. Chris Norby should be fired!
I’m wondering if any of the Board of Supervisors got this email from Chris Norby and will they address the issue.

I also received this email and was wondering the same thing. I’m sure he knows exactly what he’s doing and once again is pulling a fast one. He is not stupid he knows that he can do and undo and wont get in trouble. Just like he has done so many times before.
He should be ashamed of himself! The County DOES NOT show tolerance for this type of action and he should not be excluded. I know our dept has been talked to about the use of the internet and the consequences if we dont abide by these rules.
Hold on there, boys. If the e-mail was not sent from a County computer there’s no foul that I can see.
If the emails were not sent from a County computer he’s fine. Perhaps County workers gave work emails on sign up list. It’s the workers that might be in trouble!!
Norby probably figured since it’s okay for Chris Prevatt to use county computers for personal use (allegedly) then it is okay for him to do the same.

It may not be illegal but it is damn unethical to send campaign email to county workers. Is he trying to force county workers to give him money? They might feel pressured or obligated. Perhaps they will think that if they don’t give him money he will get them fired.
Norby has crossed the line!
As a citizen,a county employee may be involved in political affairs- maybe voice an opinion, etc.
However, not on county time or property– an email address is county property and he made use of them by sending inappropriate info (campaign stuff).
Call the Compliance Officer–all of you—this is not good. I don’t know much about this Norby guy but I know for sure that county directors in other counties have been fired for this i.e—I won’t mention who in L.A County??? Yes read this old PRNewswire below. Maybe someone from L.A can fill in the details– the guy was actually a nice guy and loved by all–but hey he screwed up- county time and county property is not to be used inappropriately.

The deficit was left by Charles ‘Chuck’ Henry, the former Director of LA’s Office of AIDS Programs & Policy (OAPP) who was recently removed from his position as OAPP Director after allegations of conflict of interest and illegal political fundraising were brought against him. Henry and OAPP officials appear to have over-allocated federal Title 1 funds-committing more local Ryan White funds to local grantees than were allocated-in the expectation that there would be ultimate savings; however, most grantees spent all funds designated and awarded by OAPP. In addition, OAPP awarded at least two ‘no bid’ contracts in the amounts of $1.9 million and $1.5 million over the past year despite protests of favoritism by Mr. Henry and OAPP from some local AIDS advocates.
“We believe these two ‘no bid’ AIDS service contracts, which were awarded with little or no monitoring, were an effort by Mr. Henry to curry favor and/or reward certain providers,” said Michael Weinstein, President of AIDS Healthcare Foundation. “To make the allocations and these ‘no bid’ awards — particularly after the feds had significantly cut and then flat-funded LA’s Ryan White funding over the past two years — made no sense whatsoever. In trying to feather his political nest, Mr. Henry has exacerbated a funding crisis that has now come home to roost in LA County.”

You ppl that received this email need to be a sounding board for justice—-otherwise hold your breath if you get a pink slip—remember that it will be a result of so much wasted space in-house by morons like Morby Norby or whatever his name is.
Does Norby really expect any support from County employees? Isn’t he pretty well known as a Space Cadet?
This is not terribly surprising that Norby will take money from anywhere he can get it. When he ran for Supervisor, better than 80% of his money from South County; an area he does not even represent.
All his opponent has to do is tie him to his infamous vote to hand over El Toro International Airport to Irvine. We all know how the Great Pork turned out. It is an epic failure. Link him to the Agranistas, The Great Pork, and no airport and he will not win any city in North County. Even some people in South County have finally caught on that they got scammed by the Agranistas. There is no Great Pork, just lots of secrecy and no bid contracts. Not to mention they have their hand out for federal porkulus.

That is not just a can of worms there-
its a few cans —can you imagine –there are too many big names involved in this money pit leading straight into deep pockets.
Have you seen the RFP’s for this place? and those are just the ones that are open for bidding to appease the masses. Now imagine the big fat juicy no bid contracts—oooo lalala— chaching for all that bunch–LIVING LA VIDA BUENA—too bad for
for the rest of us– and now we have something new called fed. econ.stimulus bailouts—that is the
ultimate no bid free for all for the select few- no contract needed- just take the $$$$ and run-
this country is in trouble.
