WASHINGTON — America’s third largest party Tuesday criticized President Barack Obama’s nomination of federal appeals court judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, citing past rulings that public employers should discriminate in hiring based on race.
“While Judge Sotomayor deserves a fair and impartial hearing, Supreme Court justices should be nominated for their thorough knowledge of and adherence to the Constitution and the rule of law,” said William Redpath, Libertarian National Committee Chairman.
“By nominating Sonia Sotomayor, Barack Obama has made it clear he prefers an activist for his personal causes over a rational interpreter of law,” said Redpath.
It isn’t that voting for Sotomayor isn’t a “Conservative” thing to do. It’s that it isn’t a principled thing to do for a true “smaller government” Republican. A “smaller government” Republican has a real respect for the Constitution. And that includes a respect for the Bill of Rights, as well as the understanding that the 2nd Amendment is in there, along with the Tenth, and are just as important as the others.
Sotomayor isnt anything a “smaller government” Republican can possibly vote for. It is simple expediency and self flattery.
Now, the real question is for all those Libertarians who enjoy taking pot shots at Republicans for being inconsistent or hypocritical…this is inconsistent with being Republican. What say you??
At least five GOP senators on the committee — Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Chuck Grassley (Iowa), Jon Kyl (Ariz.), Orrin Hatch (Utah) and John Cornyn (Texas) — say they’re still weighing how to vote, which they say will have nothing to do with politics. Their committee votes on July 28 won’t matter, as Sotomayor’s confirmation is all but assured.

Well, for one thing, no Libertarian should vote in your poll. You did not give us any reasonable options.
It is Obama’s turn to pick a Judge. The time to stop this was last November but the GOP put up a sh*tty McPalin ticket. After 8 horrid years of Bush and Cheney. So now Obama is the Prez, courtesy of the GOP.
I don’t agree with all of Sotomayor’s positions, but is she qualified to be a judge on the nation’s highest court? Yes.
The GOP tried to dismiss Sotomayor not because she is not qualified but rather because they hate Obama. Well, Obama is the medicine they had coming. Perhaps next time they will nominate a better candidate – but judging from the current batch of hopeless Talibani’s striving for the GOP nomination, I think Obama will be in charge for two terms.
Kudos to the five GOP Senators who have said they will approve Sotomayor. This is a battle the GOP cannot win, so why bother? The Dems have the votes in the bag already.
The GOP should forget about this nonsense and do all they can to stop Obama care. And shame on the idiot Republicans who voted to spend $700 million on the wild illegal immigrant horse bailout.
“This is a battle the GOP cannot win, so why bother?”
Because people like Jeff Sessions simply can’t resist the opportunity to throw red meat to people like Terry Crowley. And BOY has he lapped it up!

Art,
That kid’s eating habits look positively polite when compared to the foaming-at-the-mouth response most in the GOP had to Sotomayor’s nomination.
