Sometimes you think that political stupidity has hit the wall….that it just couldn’t get any dumb or dumber than the latest gaff! Mark Sanford was one of those political weenies…..that seemingly was doing a reading audition for a role on “Days of Our Lives!” The good Governor of South Carolina bumbled, stumbled, twisted and fell on his own sword all within a span of 18 minutes on the National Press stage. Sanford had been missing for 5 to 7 days AWOL. He could have been kinder to himself and the public and just done his bit at a National Press Club luncheon. Sanford could have stood up there for over an hour and redundantly recant his various missteps on that old Applachian Trial…..via Buenos Aires on his fingertips.
That was really dumb….and it is even dumber that he has not yet to step down and out as the Governor of South Carolina. So up steps Sarah Palin….who no doubt has been very bummed that she hasn’t been center stage because of the deaths of Ed McMahon, Farah Fawcett and Michael Jackson! Sarah, as you might remember is a first term Governor of Alaska…which is a State as you also know. Sarah has served two and half years and spent about six months of that in Alaska……between her run for Vice President and all her talk show tours and appearances.
Shockingly, in the spirit of Mark Sanford…(must be something they put in the water for Governors!)….Sarah, stumbled, bumbled and twisted logic away stated she will be leaving at the end of this month as Governor, because “there are forces out there…trying to hold people back”! Whoa….we better tell Arnold to watch what they are putting in his water supply as well. This could turn out to be a complete epidemic!
The Sarah Palin Chronicles however really take the cake. “It’s all about Trig!”, or Britney, Levi, Willow or the husband Todd or the mother in law or was it maybe David Letterman or the guy that takes the Gas Meter readings! We are confused. But the good news is…..we don’t have to live her life – she does! At any rate, we will be looking into the series of contentious issues that will be following the Ex-Governor around. What charges is she dodging now? What charges will be forthcoming? Or did the Governor just have an ego meltdown because she wasn’t the national center of attention? Is her real desire to be a standing cast member on “The View”? One thing certain is: By Comparison……Sarah is making Governor Mark Sanford start to look more like Larry Craig……..without the toilet paper on his shoe! Good grief….it is just another “Liberal Press Conspiracy”? Sarah better talk to Hillary about that!
Why do you think the Governor of Alaska has suddenly decided to resign? Why do think she just didn’t say: “I want to spend more time with my family!” and walk off the stage!
We are desperate enough to want Senator George Allen back…..you know “Mr. Machaca…” at least made Republicans look like they had a pair! Good Grief, may the last Republican turn out the lights when they leave! Happy Fourth of July!
LOL. One of the best posts ever on this blog.
Palin can’t even finish her term in Alaska, so she if she were to try to run in 2012, she has just given everybody the story to shoot her down.
Ron and Anna,
Great post! Hope you like the graphic I found…
Certainly one of the more mystifying political moves in recent memory. It strikes me as merely a move to reinforce her so-called “renegade” reputation. I dare say we haven’t heard the end of the wherefore’s and why’s.
R&A,
Nice job. Palin is the gift that keeps giving – to the opposition.
There are rumors that are persistent that say she’s in for some kind of criminal investigation. Stay tuned, this is not over. Not by a long shot.
Mark “Sinford”‘s explanation looks like a gift of genius compared to the rambling, roiling speech that Sarah Palin gave in front of her entire family/props today. Someone said she’s like a Jet engine attached to a golf cart: Raw power without a steering mechanism in place.
I suspect that this attention monger is going to entertain us all in the coming weeks.
Thank the heavens she never made it to VP of the US. What an utter mess she is.
The Palin situation is very similar to Jesse Ventura. Jesse won a fluke governatorial election in Minnesota, then tired of the job, blamed the media, and failed to run for a second term. He disappointed his supporters, and his presidential hopes are slim to none. There’s something to be said for winning re-election and gaining more than one term of high level leadership experience. Palin is walking in Jesse’s footsteps down the path of celebrity talking heads.
Perhaps the black helicopter outside your house has left, and you suddenly started reading a newspaper. Ron, as a “conservative” you’re increasingly becoming much more of a joke than anything you attempt to trivialize.
In the age when the taxpayer is screaming for transparency you criticize any attempt at real honesty. Sure, Palin and Sanford have both made some shocking announcements in the past few weeks. But why don’t you actually give them credit where it is due, for being honest?
Sanford had an affair and was a hypocrite and fessed up to it, what a terrible guy. Palin got sick of using taxpayer dollars to refute erroneous ethics claims against her, wow she sucks.
Until you run for office, and actually become relevant and have every detail of your life scrutinized and prevail unscathed why don’t you examine the situations before passing judgement? He who is without sin cast the first stone. Hell, even Art Pedroza tried to do that, in the joke of a campaign he ran, he at least tried enter the realm of public scrutiny.
Anyone know where I can get some Palin yard signs?? Point is folks no matter how much you put her down, she is still better then what you got now.
#6 ” He who is without sin cast the first stone. ”
I am glad you brought this up. Not only is Sarah Palin a dimwit and a rambler, as evidenced in her failure of a speech declaring she quits, but she’s a hypocrite to the max. This guy sums it up just fine:
Subject: Sarah Palin: The Hypocritical Pitbull
Governor Palin, today you said, “Over the past nine months I’ve been accused of all sorts of frivolous ethics violations. […] It’s pretty insane – my staff and I spend most of our day dealing with THIS instead of progressing our state now.” (Here is the transcript: http://www.gov.state.ak.us/exec-column.php)
Governor Palin, maybe now you understand how, in October 2008, then-presidential candidate Barack Obama felt when you said he “launched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist.”
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=9562263…
Or when that same month you accused him of “palling around with terrorists.” (note the plural)
http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2008Oct04/0,4670,PalinObama,00….
The Alaskan pitbull can dish it out, but can’t take it.

#7 OCGator, “Point is folks no matter how much you put her down, she is still better then what you got now.”
Really? She’s a quitter. Anyone who at least stays in the game is better than her.
She quit her fluffy little job after just two and a half years. When the going gets tough, she quits. Thats a fact.
Maybe she can get a job on fox if she can tone down the diva demands that she’s constantly placing on others. Her political career is done.
*Even Ed Rollins and Karl Rove…..will even tell
you #6…….”that Stupidity, Victimization,
Self-Serving and Boring are all elements which
may not encourage future success for Sanford –
Palin” or seemingly an endless growing list of
politicians who think “it is all about them”
….rather than the people they were elected to
serve!” Rollins and Rove are so embarrassed that
they are distancing themselves from both Public
Policy Strategy – idiots.
Happy 4th of July – #6!
Palin is failin’ and is no comparison to “what we have now” in D.C. If you can’t run a state and complete your term; how would you consider running for the highest office in our country?
Hopefully, Alaska will have a credible, responsible replacement to serve the citizens of “Seward’s Icebox” or “The Last Frontier.”
Ed Rollins and Karl Rove, for all their talents, are professional spinmeisters for politicians. Of course they don’t like it when someone in the public eye comes out in an unconventional way and offers some honesty and authentication. I’m just saying why don’t you give them the benefit of a doubt and reserve your judgment for the future before you know all the facts? Or are you to eager to step up onto your low horse on the OJ Blog and rail against Palin and Sanford. If that is the case, I feel sorry for you.
I will give you credit for mentioning the birth of our nation though, it’s the first time I’ve seen it mentioned on this blog.
Welcome Robin.
I have heard that the population of Alaska is about equal to that of Orange County. She had it made in the pipsqueak leagues before her ego took her national. Kind of hard to put that all back in the box after she’s been to the big city, so to speak.
I think she NEEDS that book deal to clear asap so she has access to the cash as well as cashing in on whatever popularity she now has to make the most money on pumping the book. I think she’d be excellent at Fox as some kind of talking head – she seems like she’d fit right in. However, she tends to be difficult and diva-ish according to many reports, so I am not sure if that’s something that Fox would willing to put up with.
I agree with you. Her quitting is good for Alaska.
Hello #11,
We have had this talk before, you know I’m right. What we have in DC is going down and he is taking us with him.
Now if I’m wrong I will buy you lunch. Robin thank you for all you do for us in Garden Grove, your a winner.
#12,
Raise the bar…get some culture! Go watch a Puccini Opera…..read a Russian novel…….at least listen to the Beatles and Bob Dylan.
No, how about this: Read everything by Mark
Twain and every comment by Will Rogers.
Watch a Abbott and Costello movie…..Watch
a Monty Python movie….listen to a Nilsson song!
Read “The Reagan Diaries”….or watch three seasons of the Soprano’s and Boston Legal! Do anything; but support a stupid empty headed Governor-wannabe politician – and then make them your cultural hero/icon!
Ron have you been drinking? I never said Sanford or Palin were heroes or icons. Just because you didn’t accomplish relevancy anywhere beyond the OJ Blog don’t tear down those who did when they admit their human flaws, or step away from the incessant attacks from insignificant zeros.
By the way, I’ve done many of your suggested activities. Thanks.
