Once again we have had to set up a new SAUSD corruption thread as the last one started to run slow with all the comments on it.
Our schools are in crisis today – not just here in Santa Ana but all over the state. The only thing we know for sure is that we are going to take more budget hits.
I am amazed that the SAUSD hired back all their laid off administrators. How crazy is that? Class sizes are growing, good teachers are laid off, and the union, as usual, is asleep at the wheel.
We will continue to reason through all this here at the Orange Juice blog! We can but hope for the best…
There are good subs out there. Some of them are regular teachers who are out of job or in the recent market, have never found a job. Some of them are great subs who do this for a living, many are retired teachers. There is no way to judge a sub based on a category, there are good and bad ones in all categories. This is something that many of us have never really considered but now, with unemployment as high as it is, I guess we will get better quality for a while. Most of us are just happy when the classroom isn’t destroyed the day after we come back and even happier when the kids have actually accomplished something in our absence. I feel bad for the regular subs who now also feel “unemployed” during the current situation. This too will pass. The meager amount that subs make in most districts is just not enough incentive to keep most of the really good ones.
Willard’s got issues much greater than administration–try almost an entire school full of staff with no life and with no interest in the education of the students. Instead of praying for Sierra, you religious hypocrites, extract the rafterS from your own eyes…
301 and 302,
I just think if they were THAT “good” or qualified they would have been hired in another district. Some are to lazy to do all the planning and paper work required to be a teacher. The responsibilities of a sub are about 10% of what an actual teacher is responsible for.
oh and did any “good” teachers stay til 10pm? I left at 3pm so I must be a bad teacher.
303 was either posted by or at the request of Jeff Bishop in conjunction with Bernadette Medrano.
305 – Why are you so focused on good vs. bad? The amount of time a teacher stays at school has no relationship to their effectiveness in the classroom. If you are actually a teacher, you would know that.
#306~ That is EXACTLY what I was thinking! Makes me want to pray even harder for the teachers at Sierra. Let’s be real, prayer is their only hope. I have heard from the Willard staff that they have been getting plenty of phone calls complaining about their new admin. The thing about Bishop is either he doesn’t understand that the way he does things is insulting, degrading and clearly transparent or he doesn’t care. On the other hand, the new admin at Willard is a breath of fresh air…. let’s hope it remains that way!
308 ~ You are wrong with this post. You’ve been able to write, unchallenged, for a very long time – but on this one you are wrong.
We don’t know one another but because I dare to disgree with you and others of your ilk you will attempt to discredit me by saying “. . . was either posted by or at the request of Jeff Bishop in conjunction with Bernadette Medrano.” Or something to that effect.
I am neither Bishop, Medrano nor know them. I also did not write post 303 and the moderator of this site can prove all that.
I, unlike you, post under my name. S stands for Susan and Bello is my last name. You cowards hide behind anonymity and expect to be taken seriously.
With that said, I’ve read this site for many years and have come to the conclusion that your
feeble attempts to discredit people indicates who you really are – very mean spirited, vindictive
men and women who prefer wallowing in
destructiveness and relish in causing chaos.
Get a life!
a
I really don’t appreciate what you are saying about subs. Not all subs are lazy and do only 10% like you said. I started off as a sub and did 100%. I received good letters of recommendations too out of it. If you are a multiple subject teacher like myself, finding a teaching position is very tough right now. In the Fullerton district, they had 1000 applicants for a few positions in multiple subject teaching. So do not tell me that if we are good and qualified that we would be hired in another district. Bottom line they are not hiring right now. I would take a long term position on, but I do not get paid my daily rate after 20 days. I would be doing everything that a teacher does under sub pay. Now yes I can go in there and leave at 2:30, but that would not benefit the students. So stop saying what you are saying about subs and teachers. I work hard and have always worked hard. If you are a teacher and were laid off like I am, then I wonder if you would have found a job in teaching if you are multiple subject. I highly doubt it. If you did it may be because you knew somebody.
SBello
Thanks for the thoughtful post. Perhaps you can bring us up to date on Ms. Medrano’s Santa Ana Education Foundation. The website has no recent activity. Is Ms. Medrano still soliticing money from community businesses? If so, who benefits from the distribution of these funds.
Thank you very much.
sbello – Obviously you never taught at Willard under the reign of Mr. Bishop. If you did, you would understand the need for anonymity.
I wrote: “I am neither Bishop, Medrano nor know them.”
Escuse me, #311, how would I know about the Santa Ana Education Foundation? If you are so interested in her and the Santa Ana Education Foundation – call her! Oh yeah, in order to do that you would have to use your name…
But you see, you won’t call her because you are more interested in being mean spirited, vindictive men and women who prefer wallowing in destructiveness and relish in causing chaos.
I may have not taught at Willard, but I can tell you that there are always three sides to every story – yours – theirs – and somewhere in the middle is the truth.
Get a life!
MAYBE…303 was the person sitting across Linda’s desk, tired of hearing her mouth run off while she should be doing her JOB. Does your new boss know you take school time to express your misguided opinion on this blog?
Or someone who knows Willard since before Bishop showed up and knows that it’s been screwed up for MANY MANY years…what a breath of fresh air this new admin is at Willard, though…have you looked @ the kid’s schedules with 2 or 3 “Staff” as teachers instead of Real Teachers?
Oh, wait! You don’t care!!! And there’s the real problem.
#314 I take offense at your comment, though this blog in general is offensive. I do my job very well. A while ago, I may have put my tail in between my legs because of my lack of tact with students and my use of time while at work. But, we are all human, and we all have the potential to improve, even ME, though you might see me as the wicked witch of the west. I have no fear of you telling my new boss anything, you can check the cookies on my computer, if you would like.
Bishop, Bernedette, and I have agreed to disagree, but they hold no judgment against my formerly inefficient secretarial performance. And I respect them, too. We all have mouths to feed, let’s stick to what we’re paid to do.
Let’s all acknowledge our mistakes and move on, especially Willard Employee and Anon.

Your sudden outrage towards those who are mean spirited, vindictive, wallowing in destructiveness, and causing chaos left me room for pause. So I went back to some of your previous posts. Strange you don’t seem to have a problem in being mean spirited, vindictive, destructive and causing chaos yourself.
Working backwards you seem to enjoy pointing out the districts failures; encourage lawsuits, and badmouth a few people of your own choosing. What makes you so special? Until you told the rest of us today SBELLO meant nothing other than another made up name. For your review:

I think Sepulveda would be interested to know the following statistics:
Basic, below basic and far below basic means students are NOT at grade level. The percentage of students, districtwide, that fall at Basic, Below Basic and Far Below Basic on the CST for English Language is as follows:
2007-2008 School Year
2nd Grade 65%
3rd Grade 77%
4th Grade 58%
5th Grade 68%
6th Grade 70%
7th Grade 66%
8th Grade 68%
9th Grade 67%
10th Grade 74%
11th Grade 78%
As you can see by the statistics, SAUSD continues to fail to address this horrific problem; they don’t have a handle on the number of students who are socially promoted and CAN NOT READ!!!!!
Can you imagine that 78% of incoming 2008/2009 seniors were not at grade level. f we were in Irvine, there would be a class action lawsuit!

339 – Russo also has her parent organization presidents to do her dirty work too and she also has Patricia Gomez indoctrinating parents to follow the party-line. Parents are of no use to the district – unless its to do their dirty work.
I know of parents who helped on Measure G and were treated incredibly special by the district and Russo and once it passed the district and Russo dropped these parents like hot coal

Jill, doesn’t the district have set policies and procedures for subs and if so, isn’t the appropriate staff trained on them?
Time and time again it appears that Russo and company are more concerned with protecting their enormous salaries rather transitioning the Riffed teachers.
And Jill, what’s up with Gomeztrejo being rescinded and who is he bumping? What side deal did the district make with him?
As always Jill – I respect your comments.

282 – Patricia Gomez is in charge of the district parents and from what I heard has a solid group of parents waiting to do the district’s bidding. She parades them out to board meetings with scripts in hand parroting exactly what the district wants said!

Jill, I don’t see where you’ve offended anyone. What you and the RIF’ed teachers have been through is horrible. I hope your lawsuit is successful.
Whoa there #314!! There are many “staff” names on the schedule at Willard because SAUSD has their heads so far up their corruptive butts that they couldn’t see that possibly it might be in the best interest to the student population to rescind some rif’d teachers. If you really knew anything about the situation, you would know that schools staffed classes before teachers were called back. Therefore, no real names. Come on~ you sound like you know what’s going on. Why the stupid act? Those positions are now staffed with real teachers who were called back last Wednesday. Additionally, I have heard the morale at Willard is rising because they finally have a principal who cares about teachers. Cole is a leader not a dictator. Finally!
#315
Linda! You excel at your job!!! Take pride in that! That office is well covered and I hope that current admin will realize it and give kudos.
#317 “cole is a leader” point well taken…I did not intend my comment to discredit his effort, but simply to point out that there are issues within eery administration. Unfortunately, though, given past experiences at willard, it will take one mistake to tick off the staff and Cole, too will fall from his pedestal.
Also, it matters little in the lives of students that there is a principal who cares about teachers when teachers themselves don’t show that same interest in students. Sure, teachers cry out, “bend to our every whim”…but, they are unwilling to bend over backwards to ensure that every child learns and receives the education they deserve.
#318, how does “yelling at kids and calling them liars” (see today) without basis for such accusations mean that the office is well covered? It seemed like Ms. Linda just didn’t want to fulfill her duty and help this child out. Outrageous!
#315 You rock. We all know that if you want something done in the office you go to Ms. Rodriguez.
and if you want something done RIGHT, you don’t 🙂
Intuition
Linda has been a great person to have in the office. She always made sure classes were covered. She made sure that the copier was kept up at all times. She was doing other jobs that shouldn’t have been done by her, but due to less office staff, she did them anyway. Her and I butt heads last year when I did not want a certain sub in my classroom because that sub was always late. However, I realized that when I was out on vacation that I was happy to have that sub even if she was late. It was better to have the same sub for 3 days then to have a new one each day. If I told her I was going to be out, she put it in the system right away. When my sub could no longer sub, she even sent other subs in to meet me because Linda knew I wanted to meet them if they were there. Last year Linda always made sure that students were never in the office in the morning. That wasn’t even her job to do that, but she did it a lot. Linda keep doing what you are doing. The office would not be the same without you. This year will be a tough year since teachers can’t request subs, so that alone has added an extra job to you.
All this corruption …each school should just be turned upside down and turned into a charter school, break up the union contracts with the district PLEASE!
~323 no need…just do stop the gossip, work together, and TEACH these children

Freddy and Juan Lopez are tried and true friends.
Juan’s just watching his pal’s back at the expense of SAUSD students and the community at large. Crooks in crime.
#321
You don’t know what you are talking about and your should shut up now. Anyone who has worked at Willard knows the situation and you don’t.
327,
This is probably why you’re a sub. Look at the language you use, did you know you’re representing SA schools? This is why I think subs are subs and not quality teachers. You can’t be professional.
~328 well said
oh please……. a & b are the same person. I think you ought to go get diagnosed. Either way, you’re screwed because both personalities are psychotic. Come down to the real world with the rest of us. I know you will have some predictably irrational response to my post. Go ahead and give it your best shot. You’re still an idiot who enjoys living in a different world.
To all of those posting negative and completely incorrect statements about Willard – YOU ARE DEFINATELY NOT AT WILLARD THIS YEAR. It has never been the Staff at Willard under Mr. Bishops reign to cause such chaos. It was ONLY Mr. Bishop and his constant use of threats, bullying, yelling, and total disregard for a person to intimidate his staff into compliance. If you asked for clarification of his thoughts – he would in turn yell at you for more than 30 minutes. HE does not understand what he is preaching. He just repeats key phrases others have said over and over until you give up trying to have a professional conversation with him. If you did not comply, he would bully and threaten you even more until you left Willard or you were beat into submission. For reference, find all of the hush hush law suits filed against him during his time at Willard. Look into the huge staff turnover every year. Mr. Bishop and his supporters always seem to forget that it was never the staff – it was poor leadership.
As for Mrs. Medrano – the SAEA awarded scholarships to students at SAHS and she never
disbursed the money. When the students tried to call her, she gave them excuses. When they kept calling, she would hang up on them. Interesting.
Please, let the healing begin at Willard. The atmosphere at Willard is more optimistic than it has been in years. The new teachers are enthusiastic and willing to take on new challenges. They may have had their reservations as mos came from elementary, but they are adjusting nicely. As for comments about “bad” veteran teachers, many veterans chose to stay because they are committed to the families of the Willard neighborhood. They stayed because they believed they could offer their best to the students and make a difference in their lives in an environment that was challenging for all involved.
I’m not “b”…but its kinda funny that there is a “b” and maybe a “c” will arise…

That’s shameful! What is the district doing about Medrano’s misrepresentation and why did they allow her to have an office at Willard?
Yeah, it’s all about (ripping off) the kids?
I saw on the website that they are having a new teacher reception. Now where is that money coming from?

I’m not a or b, but at a’s suggestion, I am C
#334 I’ve never heard of her taking kid’s money. Actually, scholarships she DOES hand out. My sister-in-law’s daughter received one $5,000.
Oh, and I don’t think she has an office @ Willard
#336
Her office was in the “parent room” at Willard which was around the corner from the main office next to the computer lab 110. It actually ended up taking 2 classrooms, the old home ec room and a small special ed room: considerable space.

Any “good” teacher working this saturday?? Because you know the BEST teachers work on saturdays! I left with the kids on friday so that must make me a bad teacher. But wait, I’m done with my work. How interesting..
Actually I may go to work on Monday so that my fellow peers will bow at my feet and tell me how good a teacher I am…I need an ego boost!
a,
actually, you need to get a life!
a~ I find it very sad that you have to post the way you do. You seem to find some sort of pleasure in spreading your misfortune. I believe the readers who were angry with your previous posts are starting to feel sorry for you. Additionally, I fear for the students in your class because they have a teacher that is very off balance. Please get some kind of help. I truly am concerned that you may lose it in front of your students. It appears working for SAUSD can do that to a person.
a, you need to go away.
Anyone else notice that API/AYP scores were supposed to be released to the public on Sept. 2nd, but weren’t?
I emailed the CDE and got a reply that the scores won’t be released until Sept. 15th! No explanation for the delay was given.
Hmmm…
I just got the following explanation from CDE:
The web person is out sick and the backup is having trouble.
Academic Accountability Unit
Policy and Evaluation Division
California Department of Education
Political speak for “out sick” and “backup person is having trouble”
1. Long holiday weekend.
2. We screwed up and don’t want to admit it.
344 – The explanation is that they’re putting a little spin on things. Gotta’ have those explanations ready when the scores go public.
342,
My misfortune?? I love to teach or else I wouldn’t be in this field for as long as I have been. Also my kids are fine and very well behaved. I don’t have to put in 10 hour days to be as effective as I am. Some people just think that by obsessing you will somehow become more effective. That if I spent my life in my classroom my students would some how achieve more. I think when they see a teacher who enjoys life they will too.
Regarding A – it would be best if everyone ignored A. Sick individual and probably not at all who he claims he is. There is no teacher, ineffective or efective, who has time to concern themselve with this dribble of trivia. Teachers right now are focused on lesson plans, seating charts, room displays, learnings students’ names, getting supplies for their classrooms, taking attendance, adjusting to new room assignments, new schools, new grade levels, etc. Oh, and we will additionally be preparing for Back to School Night.
a — If I was a parent of a student in your classroom, I would make sure my kid was removed. You are self-delusional if you think you are a good teacher. At first, I thought that perhaps you were not a teacher because it did not seem that any teacher, no matter how bad, could be as uninformed as you appear to be about teaching and education in general. But now I’m beginning to fear you are a teacher. No matter what you think of yourself, I am sure, and I am sure that your colleagues and principal are sure, that it is your students’ misfortune to be stuck in your class. If it weren’t for the union, I believe you would have been terminated long ago.
P.S. Does anbody think that Bernadette Medrano or Jeff Bishop, or maybe even Gomeztrejo, have something to do with the late release of the API scores? Just joking. A little Labor Day Weekend humor.
I agree with “disgusted”. Don’t answer A’s posts and he will go away. He is having some sort of “weird” fun with this blog.
