The only thing we know for sure about L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is that he knows how to score with female reporters. I suppose if he was running for President of Viagra he would win in a landslide. But seriously, how can anyone look at this guy as a legitimate gubernatorial candidate, in a state as troubled as California? He is nothing more than a horn dog masquerading as a politician.
So what about his counterpart in San Francisco, Mayor Gavin Newsom? Sigh. He is best known for sleeping with his campaign manager’s wife, while she was in a drug induced stupor, and of course those obnoxious Prop. 8 radio ads, where he was cast as the ultimate liberal bad guy. He is a walking “no se puede.”
So can any other Democrats take out former and perhaps future Governor Jerry Brown, who is currently our State Attorney General?
The guy who had the best chance of doing so, Lt. Governor John Garamendi, is now running for a seat in Congress.
I don’t know of any other Democrats who are running for Governor. The blue cupboard is bare.
If you are a decline to state voter, you are really screwed then because the California Republican Party won’t let you vote in their primary. So even if you wanted to vote for moderate former Congressman Tom Campbell, you can’t. You have to pick a Democrat – or some unknown third party candidate who has no chance of winning.
If I had to pick a Democrat I guess I would have to go with retread Jerry Brown. But I have serious reservations about the 70 year old. “Brown’s website says not a word about the budget mess. Nor does his Facebook site, although it does feature a recipe for his mother Bernice’s banana cake. (“Make the cake the day before serving,” the site recommends.),” according to the L.A. Times.
I can’t vote for Villaraigosa or Newsom, no way. I don’t much like Brown, and would rather vote for Campbell, but as a registered Libertarian I can’t.
I don’t know if the Libertarians will field a gubernatorial candidate. One pick who would be intriguing is recently retired Orange County Superior Court Jim Gray, but he has not shown an interest in running for high office again. And he is better off running for a local office in Orange County at some point in the near future.
So we’re stuck with Brown. Sigh. Is that really the best the Democrats can come up with? Why are no Democratic women running? Why is Villaraigosa the only minority candidate? What sort of selection is this for the supposedly diverse Democratic Party? What a joke!
Maybe they should let us vote for “None of the Above?”
sheriff joe from arizona
How sad is our state, that this is the best the Democrats have to offer, A cheating mayor form LA who sleeps around, and is not really interested in actually “Working”. A doped up alcoholic / junkie who is banging his friends wife…..and Jerry Brown! Whay has happened to the Democrats???? When Did Jerry Brown Become Main stream? Talk about the Republicans being in sad shape!
Newsome is far from being a “alcoholic/Junkie”.
He was (rightfully or wrongfully, you decide) advised by high dollar consultants that Californians were more forgiving with that type of failure than infidelity and wife stealing.
That is the real problem with the electorate.
They are stupid.
Oh Arnie ruined me!! Should I run as
Maria Kennedy legally separated, I mean Arnie is changing his stance on immigration and hanging out with dems- L.A’s Mayor, Magic, and Bama.
Maria Kennedy for Governor
Bigmarkod,
I’d say SantaAna has the same thing going with at least one person that holds a civic position. I won’t say who at this time, but I know at least one who is having an extramarital affair. I won’t name names, but I know……
What’s sad is the same ethics they have in their personal life is the same ethics they have when it comes to politics. They’re in it for themselves and are motivated by what will benefit them, first and foremost.
Matilda, come on no teasing, there are referral bonuses and brownie pts.
MENTION NAMES 🙂
Refer them to the club WITH
Mayor L.A, and all mentioned by Bigmarkod.
mmm I think I know???? Let’s play guessing game?
Could it be????
Ok, guess……I like this game………..
Art. Are you acknowledging by this post that there are no progressive candidates qualified to win next Nov?
The Internet is surely a double edged sword. We can find out just about everything regarding candidates including their private lives, which could not happen prior to Al Gore’s invention.
If you peel any onion to its core you will probably discover that we are all flawed be it failure to pay our federal income taxes, hiring undocumented workers to extra marital affairs.
Larry, I had that discussion with Art. I agree with him that an indiscretion here and there is forgivable because as you say, we are all human and flawed….but a behavioral pattern (i.e.: cheating with various others or having an on-going affair for over a year behind one’s spouse’s back, pretending everything is hunky dory at home) is a symptom that is telling of a politician’s overall make up; therefore, we should hold politicians to a higher ethical standard. If they cheat on someone they claim to love profoundly, wouldn’t they also cheat on us as ciitizens?
I think I’ve seen the other woman.
Long Black hair, aweful skin, co-worker,
purchasing mgr.
Tell me in spanish
frio= not even close
caliente= very close, somehow close to making the connection
🙂 ooo I like this guessing game
Hmmmm…..whoever this long dark hair co-worker is, maybe someone in addition to the other one (maybe one of many. If his wife doesn’t know, maybe we don’t know about all the others also, he does behind close doors).
Btw, who are you talking about? (First initial of last name only)
Btw, in time it will be revealed……and when that time comes, maybe it will come with pics!!!!
Matilda W.
Agreeing with you confirms that there are probably many qualified candidates for elected office who simply have fallen short in their lives and do not wish to risk exposure by throwing their hats into the arena.
Look at the difference in the power of the microscope between the mid 1900’s of JFK and Bobbie K vs president Clinton and Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in the past two decades.
As time goes on we will find, or create, skeletons
that will undermine some qualified candidates.
#3 duplojohn is funny
#11 good point!
#12 good point!
We would have much better candidates if we focused on POLICY not peccadillos.
Anonster, I have a SA politician in mind, the same ethics he has in his personal life (and I know all too well about this certain someone’s secret personal life) is the same ethics he brings into politics. He votes based on how it will benefit him……and he and his cronies have milked the system to their advantage, making out like bandits….just as he has extramarital affairs to his advantage, (probably also making out like a bandit)!
John Chiang sounds about the best to me.
Jim,
He would be compelling. But I threw his name in just to make it more interesting. I don’t know if he is at all interested. And he did have that heart scare this year…
Matilda W., sorry, I don’t think a politician’s private life is that indicative of how they will govern. I think it’s a given that most politicians are egotistical and power hungry, but it’s the public policies they pursue that matter. Just because someone lies to their spouse doesn’t necessarily mean they’re corrupt, it does mean though, that you probably wouldn’t want to be married to them.
It’s time Americans grew up and stopped pretending that ANYONE who achieves high office in this country hasn’t made some deals with the “devil”. We need public financing if we want to elect “angels”.
Now, tell us dear, does this roaming Don Juan politician know a couple of “romance” languages?
Anonster,
Don’t they all?
Matilda W., there is a certain S.A. politician who is known for speaking three languages, english, spanish and french.
N’est-ce pas?
Could it be? Don’t be coy.
Anonster, that’s not the one I’m thinking about….but I hear the one I have in mind Frenches muy excelente, tambien!
“POLICY not peccadillos.” Anonster is certainly
the height of nonsense and hypocrisy. Bill Clinton, Tony V or The Republicans:

Democrats?:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1713550/posts
*No….Tony V…will have serious problems with
Latina women….who will never vote for that “Bed and Breakfast Candidate”.
“Downtown” Jerry Brown…will “always have Linda
Ronstadt!”
Larry Craig on the other hand will always have
toilet paper stuck to his right shoe….in the other guys stall…in Minneapolis!
You vote for your “perverts” and we will vote
for ours….might be the motto!
#23 & #24
how entertaining!!!
this is better than daytime soaps
“Daytime Drama”
Matilda W., I am disappointed AND grossed out, as I think I know who the “mystery cheater” is.
Just in Time, didn’t you know this is really the place to get your SanTana chisme? Where do you think you are, a political blog site? Sorry Art, you know I’m jk’ing around.
Anonster, do tell me…….I want to compare notes!
Yes comadre Mati,
Chismografia= the study of that which is a mix between “fiction and non-fiction, reality v.s a product or one’s imagination or better yet the transferring of information/news from one source to another via common media/communication vehicles i.e political blogs, print, radio, internet-radio,
your typical SanTana neighbor: whether the 40 yr resident/hermit/weirdo, 40 yr resident sweet neighborhood Betty Crocker/Martha Stewart, or the “Abuelita-menudo at my house on Sunday”, neighborhood univision reportero/a, the regulars at city council mtgs.,
the local activists, or the “INNOCENT BYSTANDERS”
LOL 🙂
I think I know who Don Juan is-
you are definitely glamorizing him
with the frenches muy exelente-
careful the desperate housewives might just join his campaign next time around. I think this may back-fire or are you shilling for Casanova here?
Hey what if the spouse approves of this? There are some weird ppl out there.
Why don’t you share privately with me, who you think it is.
I don’t think the spouse would approve….that’s why he operates behind closed doors and has been able to get away with it for so long, mi compadre!
Hijole, SanTana is a novella all it’s own!
Change Candidate Wanted For California:
We recognize change is not easy and will require a sustained and sincere engagement of the electorate. This is our primary purpose. We are coming together to create a new political environment of hard truths, a transparent government with Sacramento and its people working together for the common good.
We envision real leadership and budgets without ballots, passed on time in Sacramento. To do so, we will be required to pass reforms beyond Article 13A, ballot measures, recalls, term limits and other obstacles perverting our governance.
Promising change because it is in fashion and rattling off the same poll tested issues and rhetoric will not get you our support. Our aim is to fix the structural political defects in Sacramento. Bring us your clear and concise plans for transformational reform and together we will inspire and get California back on track.
You go, Steven! Please go out and find those people for the next campaign!
This psychotic, dysorganised and amnic quates:
Look at the whole criminal correction game, which is a big piece of our economy. It’s just an invention. Crime is being invented to put people to work.
“Jerry Brown Speaks Out on Welfare Reform”, We the People Radio Network archives, February/March 1995
We’re being ripped off and screwed by a bunch of liars, thieves, crooks, and criminals, and they’re not the folks below. Don’t look in the streets; look in the corporate suites!
“Jerry Brown Speaks Out on Welfare Reform”, We the People Radio Network archives, February/March 1995
The conventional viewpoint says we need a jobs program and we need to cut welfare. Just the opposite! We need more welfare and fewer jobs.

Here the system is creating an industry around the drug issue when it does nothing to stop the corrupt military that moves the drugs, and the big banks that are all in cahoots with the President and the big shots in the Congress.
“Jerry Brown on Drugs and State Power”, We the People Radio Network archives, August/September 1995
When I say the U.S. Government is taking another step down the road to totalitarianism, I’m not just saying that for rhetorical effect. There is a systematic movement to extinguish the liberties of the American people.
“Jerry Brown on Drugs and State Power”, We the People Radio Network archives, August/September 1995
The big lock-up is about drugs. Here’s the real scam. The drug war is one of the games to get more convictions and prisoners.
“Jerry Brown on Crime Control”, We the People Radio Network archives, October/November 1995
But the dark evil geniuses who run this country have figured out another use for these surplus people — arrest them in the war on drugs or the war on crime and put them into prison, adding to the gross domestic product!
“Jerry Brown on Crime Control”, We the People Radio Network archives, October/November 1995
So we are being systematically trained to fear this false ‘rising crime’ tide. This is all part of a system to lock up more people, and impose more control and surveillance.
“Jerry Brown on Crime Control”, We the People Radio Network archives, October/November 1995
A lot of street crime is horrible, but in terms of the dislocation, the undermining of the family — the corporate criminals, many of whom reside in Congress and the White House — are getting away literally with murder.
“Jerry Brown on Crime Control”, We the People Radio Network archives, October/November 1995
That’s another step forward in creating a nation of sheep in a totalitarian state, saying, “Yes sir, yes sir! Is that what you want? Do it to me again!” By the time they graduate, kids won’t even know they have rights. They’ll be little stooges for a fascist state.
“Paolo Soleri interviewed by Jerry Brown”, We the People Radio Network archives, 8 December 1995
Okay, so what we really have to recognize and own as Americans is that our way of being is itself perhaps the greatest threat to the continuation of civilization.

The corporation is an out-of–control Frankenstein.
“Jerry Brown on Corporations and Jobs”, We the People Radio Network archives, December 1995/January 1996
The corporation is not a person; it is a legal fiction backed up by guns and police and jail cells and taxing authorities and the regulators called government.
“Jerry Brown on Corporations and Jobs”, We the People Radio Network archives, December 1995/January 1996
The sovereignty of America has just been eroded in plain daylight by Clinton and the Congress, who take an oath to the Constitution. Those criminals continue to destroy this country and the world itself.
“Jerry Brown Speaks Out on Corporate Power”, We the People Radio Network archives, February/March 1996
The execution of William Bonin was not the traditional gas chamber of the past. That has been ruled cruel and unusual. Instead, we have something that seems very kind and benign and technical; the injection of chemicals, Nazi-style.
“Jerry Brown Speaks Out: That’s the Way I See It”, We the People Radio Network archives, April/May 1996
The great danger of humane punishment is that people will come to accept state murder as something sanitary. I don’t think bureaucracy should ever be entrusted with that kind of power.
“Jerry Brown Speaks Out: That’s the Way I See It”, We the People Radio Network archives, April/May 1996
Let’s draw the boundary early not wait until it’s obvious like Hitler’s Germany and insist that the state shall never, never, take the life of a person!
“Jerry Brown Speaks Out: That’s the Way I See It”, We the People Radio Network archives, April/May 1996
…not to mention the CIA which should be, I think, dissolved, it’s of no use — a great source of mischief — I don’t see any point to the FBI…

The war on drugs is really no war at all — it’s a business!
“Jerry Brown on the Drug War and Government”, We the People Radio Network archives, April/May 1997
The drug war isn’t what purports to be. If you look at the whole operation and the tie-in between the American intelligence agencies, these so-called “assets”, the spies on the payroll of the CIA, and drug dealers. Don’t let members of Congress and the media get away with this complacency and distortion!
“Jerry Brown on the Drug War and Government”, We the People Radio Network archives, April/May 1997
The CIA was revealed to be spying in France, not for military purposes, but for corporate purposes. So this $30 billion spook agency is now at the disposal of these oligarchic corporate structures run by the 1%.

That’s why we have to look at the death penalty as part of a larger pattern that is inhuman.
“Jerry Brown and Mike Farrell on the Death Penalty”, We the People Radio Network archives, October/November 1997
We’ve got to back up here and say it’s not okay. It’s not okay even to kill guilty people.

Banning capital punishment takes us to a higher state of consciousness.
