“President Barack Obama’s staffers are eyeing the OC Fair & Events Center in Costa Mesa as a possible venue for a town hall meeting when the president visits Orange County on Wednesday, a Democratic party official said Saturday,” according to the Daily Pilot.
So I guess Santa Ana is out. Probably too damn dangerous for a presidential visit.
It is ironic that Obama may end up visiting a town that is represented by a gaggle of whack-job Republicans, but at least the Costa Mesa City Council has one decent representative in Councilwoman Katrina Foley.
Costa Mesa Mayor Allan Mansoor’s Talibani Republican pals are already mass emailing folks asking them to protest on Wednesday…
NOT GOOD EVER HAPPENS 2 SANTA ANA
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT TO “PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA” & HIS STAFF TO MAKE HIS VISIT TO
SANTA ANA AND NOT COSTA MESA. THIS UP COMING WEEK!

It would seem like the Pond or the Stadium in Anaheim would be better venues for parking and safety.
I’d vote for Sanata Ana, but where would the event be held?
Hmm.
President Clinton came to Santa Ana in 1995 to speak at the Boys Club. I wonder what’s up with Obama.
I don’t think Clinton had as many death threats against him.
I believe Obama holds the distinction as the target of the most death threats against a new president.
Red,
Where did you read that? I must have missed it.
Anon,
It was discussed during the run up to the election

I am assuming that it is still a security worry to those who are trying to protect him.
Hell, even Hannity defended Ted Nugent’s “right” to spout off death threats against Obama:

This president seems to be a real magnet for the nutters, imo.
I don’t doubt that their has been a security uptick for Obama considering his new GM tank or that the threat level is probably higher. But the articles you draw your conclusion from are 4 months ago and over a year and a half for the (has been)Nugent story.
When Clinton was in SA I can tell you first hand those black SUV’s were prepared for war and capable of leveling a couple of city blocks.
I’ll give Clinton credit for going to Santa Ana and Obama a thumbs down if he doesn’t.
That GM truck was already ordered and made. Maybe Bush had an uptick in security concerns, too. He got to be a very unpopular president with all of his destructive policies.
I don’t know how prudent it is to discuss the president’s security or security concerns w/ regards to death threats. I don’t see where the secret service would even comment on it right now. I don’t really see why there would be a significant drop in people who want to see him dead. For some reason, people have felt very comfortable around the idea of threatening death to the man – and I cannot think of another president that has been such a hated target.
I’d like to see him in SA, too. But WHERE? I think the size of the venue is possibly key to the decisions being made.
*Hey, keep it simple. If it was good enough
for Arnold….then it should be good enough for
the prez! Arnold did his no tax pledge at the’
Fair Grounds….sounds good to us!
rw
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA CAN HELD HIS TOWN HALL MEETING AT THE SANTA ANA STADIUM, A.K.A EDDIE WEST FIELD OR MAYBE AT THE BIG A’…
THEY HARDLY USE THE SANTA ANA STADIUM FOR ANYTHING JUST FOR SOCCER OR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL.
WHY NOT FOT HIS ! RIGHT …….. AND IS RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE OC JAIL & SA POLICE DEPT.
Santa Ana doesn’t have the facilities for parking, even if the stadium were to be used. The Pacific Ampitheatre at the Fairgrounds would be a large venue with plenty of parking, and more intimate than the Pond. Although Irvine Meadows (Verizon Ampithetre?) would work for parking and people, too. And btw, though there are a lot of cooky right wingers on the CM city council, Costa Mesa as a city has a far more liberal voting record than most of OC, as shown in the last election when Obama won and Prop 8 lost in CM.

The Great Park would be a good site for the visit. He might even be able to still land Air Force 1 there, and could get a free balloon ride too! As far as trying to go see him, I’ll wait for the film at ll.
I agree with ‘casual observer’ I’ll check out ‘film at 11’.
There are so many restrictions to seeing the Pres in person; and he’ll probably show up late (as he is already known for) and speak for a whole 5-7 minutes.
yea i was on the occ campus today and saw the government helicopters flying very low to the ground right over me.
i think they were scoping out all the bathrooms incase obama has to take a dump durring his speech.
Check out this cool video on Obama just released. Great preparation for the visit coming up!

Hey Sean! Did you buy the Clinton Chronicles too?
OC fair grounds are right next to Orange Coast College. Don’t forget a young Dem. such as myself. And honestly the driving distance between Santa Ana and Costa Mesa is fairly trivial.
haha obama isnt scared cus of the gangstersz is he? haha
