Ex-President and Nancy Reagan share life before he succumbs to the ravages of Alzheimer’s Disease
Under fire from congressional Republicans for lifting restrictions on stem-cell research, President Barack Obama got a powerful endorsement for his move Monday from Nancy Reagan, the former’s president’s wife.
“I’m very grateful that President Obama has lifted the restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research,” she wrote in a statement released shortly after Obama reversed the Bush administration limits.
“These new rules will now make it possible for scientists to move forward. I urge researchers to make use of the opportunities that are available to them, and to do all they can to fulfill the promise that stem cell research offers.”
Nancy Reagan has been an outspoken advocate of stem-cell research – and scientists hope that the research could someday lead to a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, which afflicted her late husband, Ronald Reagan.
Her statement also illustrates how support for the research crosses party lines, even though many in the anti-abortion movement strongly oppose the research on moral and ethical grounds.
Reagan continued, “Countless people, suffering from many different diseases, stand to benefit from the answers stem cell research can provide. We owe it to ourselves and to our children to do everything in our power to find cures for these diseases – and soon. As I’ve said before, time is short, and life is precious.” Politico Link
In other news, Rush Limbaugh is demanding an apology from Mrs. Reagan. She is reported to have just said “No”. 😉
So, when are the right-wing nutcases starting to attack Mrs. Reagan? I am actually waiting for the last line in your post to become reality…
And when are the poor excuses for right-wing nutcases around here, e.g., the little one and junior, starting to attack Mrs. Reagan?
The right-wing talk radio lackeys think that the CEO of AIG should be still a part of our country’s economic policy.
And Sarah Palin ad John McCain should have an equal voice in our country’s bridge to the future.
And Donald Rumsfeldt should have a voice in our country’s military strategy.
And Dick Cheney should be conferred upon fo rhis knowledge about energy . . . and quail hunting.
And George W. shoud teach us something about domestic security, particularly given his stellar 9 month preparation to 9/11.
Ya . . . eight years of a Republican in the Oval Office. Six of eight years of a Republican majority in the the House and Senate.
Gee, let’s not admit they were complete and utter failures. Instead, let’s let them lead us into the future! Then, like lemmings, we can all follow them over the cliff!
Ms Suleman’s embryos are no longer available for stem cell research, they’ve been put to the use advocated by the Pro-Lifers – now that she’s moving to the OC they can volunteer for the night feedings & changings.
Where in the OC is she moving?
Ms Suleman’s father is buying a home in La Habra, so its down with property values there & up with our taxes.
#3: And the anti-stem-cell, right-wing Christian nut crowd should pay for her food stamps.
