“Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums promised in his second State of the City address Monday to make crime reduction his top priority for the coming year, promising to turn around the city’s reputation as a lawless community,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Why is it that Santa Ana Mayor has NEVER in over 20 years in office ever stood up and made a similar promise?
You want to know what Pulido has been up to lately? Pulido flew to DC to watch the presidential inauguration. I am told he attended a Mayors Conference while he was there, so the taxpayers paid for his travel. Nice.

I wonder if the taxpayers also paid for Pulido’s trip to Bolivia, to meet with their coca farmer Presiident, Evo Morales? You have to hand it to Pulido, he thinks he is a head of state, when in fact he is just a lame Mayor. All hail “El Rey Pudrido!”
In the meantime a Santa Ana businessman filed a complaint after a gang banger threatened his life, and the SAPD dropped the ball, as previously reported.
Interestingly, construction was just halted on a high rise tower in Oakland that was expected to bring over 1,000 jobs to the area. Meanwhile, in Santa Ana, the lot where One Broadway Plaza is supposed to be built is still empty.
Dellums’ promises may be equally empty, but at least he is man enough to take the crime issue head on, while Pulido continues to be MIA in Santa Ana.
Art,
You should take a look at this….with almost the same population, Oakland is far worse in EVERY category while Santa Ana is in some cases better than the national average. I am no Pulido supporter but comparing the two city’s is somewhat ridiculous as is a campaign promise. Results speak and neither of these city’s or their politicos have done anything to put a dent in crime.

our city did have a 17% drop in violent crime according to the FBI. How about touting this bit of good news Art, it was in last week’s Register. You don’t have to credit the city bureaucrats but since crime reporting is such a big part of this blog, maybe this bit of good news would be a good balance.
kc
While I am not speaking on behalf of Art we do offer balanced coverage on the Juice. The following statistics are from the OC Register. While overall crime is down in Santa Ana murders and rape have increased as indicated below:
“Santa Ana, Orange County’s largest city with a 2007 population of 340,000, had 856 violent crimes in the first half of 2008, down from 1,041 in the first half of 2007. That’s a drop of 17.8 percent.
In Santa Ana, robberies fell to 401 from 408, and aggravated assault fell to 407 from 589. Murders rose to 14 from 11, and rapes rose to 34 from 33.”
#2,
That same FBI report also stated that rapes and murders went up in the first half of 2008?
And Santa Ana remains #1 in violent crime in Orange County.
You think that is good news? I don’t!
#2 ,you must be joking, read OC register and LA times to see how many “god news” you can find obout Santana city. The true is that we in this city have Under reported crime and that is how crime officially went down 17%,people is tired to call and wait for the police to show up if that happen, moreover police do not give you a number when you call to report a suspicious activity, crime, violent activity and so fore!,therefore is not a crime being reported!
art, my point is if supposing the FBI crime report would have shown an increase you would have posted an article about it. but since it showed a decrease you did not mention it. it seems disingenuous to do that. heck you post every time a violent crime happens, but not this report..
I was hoping you give our boys in blue some credit. I see them working their butts off out there. oh well..maybe next time.
ck,
Do you really believe our city is getting safer? Really? Keep in mind the fact that this FBI report covered the first half of 2008. Rapes and murders went up in Santa Ana, as I noted, in that time. But the second half of the year is when things got really out of control – and that trend has continued in 2009.
Trust me, things are going to get worse – and soon. Santa Ana is teetering on the edge…
1 more murder and I believe 2 more rapes. the majority of the reductions were in the other violent crime sub categories. My point again Art is that if it had gone the other way you would have touted it from the roof tops.
CK,
Don’t worry. When the report on the second half of 2008 comes out I will definitely be touting the fact that crime went up in Santa Ana, overall, last year. I have no doubt of that.
New motto for Santa Ana:
“When we get as bad as Oakland we’ll do something.”
or
“At least we’re not Oakland.”
