Don’t say that I didn’t tell you. Last year Congress and president Bush approved steps to become more independent from importing oil by opening up offshore drilling. At that time I said that once the election was over the Democrats would quickly reinstate the ban.
Reuters has just reported that one of the first acts of the new president, within his first 24 hours in office, is to place a hold on that recent approval. This ban could also extend to developing oil shale fields in our western states.

President Obama put a hold on ALL of President Bushes pending executive orders and regulations that are still under review or have yet to be implemented.
Nobody has started drilling off the coast of California so why the panic?
Of course we should burn up OPEC’s oil first and save ours for the future.
We can do a lot more drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, especially closer to Florida.

My point, which is the same as drilling in ANWR, is to show OPEC that if pressed we can obtain some of the black gold we consume right at home which may put a cap on their charges per barrel of crude.

Watch for oil prices to raise again in 2009, if Obama follows through with “stifling” domestic US oil production. Means more crude oil imports, thus, speculators will want to come back onto the buying market, thus driving up prices artificially. “Greedy fellows”!
