Could the Pilot have been fainter (as in “damning with…”) in their praise yesterday of Congressman Dana Rohrabacher? Dana’s been vociferous in his condemnation of Bush for his terrible handling of the Ramos/Compean incident. He confronted the thankfully ex-President and risked his standing with the party. He was interviewed repeatedly on Fox and CNN and made it clear the prosecution was a travesty — concocted by 43’s buddy, a U.S. Attorney in Texas (who’s hopefully gone if The Messiah purges the Justice Dept. like der Schleikmeister did) from a very questionable set of circumstances.
This incident has surely neutered the Border Patrol. Agent Ramos was severely beaten while in prison. Both families are broke. Dana and his staff went to the mat for these men, but the Daily Snarky labels his efforts as “small”. They also forgot to mention that Rep. Ed Royce vigorously supported the Agents’ release (commutations of their sentences, not the pardons that Bush should have granted) — we heard plenty of him on the radio, but don’t recall a word out of John Campbell.
But as the weak sibling of the disintegrating LA Times, what else should we have expected?
The Pilot might instead have asked why it’s going to take two MORE months to get these two heroes out of prison. The paper might have suggested that a Congressional investigation into the incident should be accomplished — but then, cheap shots are easier than responsible, thoughtful editorialization. There’s no reason why these two men could not be home with their families right now.
Dana did the right thing — the Pilot didn’t.
Roy,
Welcome aboard the Orange Juice!
Bush truly screwed up by not doing something sooner and Dana does deserve credit for working hard to free Compean and Ramos.
As I have stated before, they made mistakes and they paid the price. The commutation of their sentences was a fair and just move.
“.. don’t recall a word out of John Campbell.”
No surprise there, the invisible John Campbell has been a huge disappointment as a member of Congress.
junior,
I heard Campbell on the radio after President Obama’s inauguration. Apparently Campbell attended the festivities and he was impressed by Obama’s oratorical abilities.
Campbell has indeed been a bust, but at least he recognizes talent when he sees it! LOL…
This country is truly in a sad state when convicted felons like Ramos and Compeon are considered “heroes”.
#4,
They are definitely not heroes. But wasn’t Carona an even bigger scumbag? And he got a slap on the wrist.
Again, I am OK with their sentence commutation. But they clearly did not deserve a full pardon.
I wonder if they will start making the circuit, talking to GOP and Minutemen groups?
For all those who still buy the Bush/Sutton line
of crap that R & C are guilty, just standby for a
US Supreme Court review of this Kangeroo Court PC Excuse for a Fair Trial. The fat lady has not even tuned up yet, on this rape of Justice!
#6,
It’s not the Bush/Sutton line that we buy.
It’s the verdict of the jury that matters.
The real crime is the crappy law about mandatory sentencing.
You take off the 10 year mandatory and those 2 convicts would have served only months for their crimes.
Have congress fix the laws.
“Apparently Campbell attended the festivities and he was impressed by Obama’s oratorical abilities.”
Is that the best Campbell could come up with? The man is terminally lame.
PS: By coincidence the Dictionary.com Word of the Day” is vacuous, which is a perfect description of John Campbell. There is no “there – there”.
I would have thought vacuous would describe your comments junior…. “sound and fury signifying nothing”
Anonyms,
Are you defending John Campbell – or just taking a random shot?
I agree with you on Campbell
I chronicled how Rohrabacher’s spokeswoman Tara Setmayer helped win the commutation of sentences for Ramos and Compean at my blog on the Daily Pilot:
