We surrender! Apparently the OC Shadow’s post about who is Orange County’s goofiest looking politician went over like a lead balloon. So in the spirit of Christmas, I am offering a replacement post herein. Vote below for whomever you believe to be Orange County’s most compassionate politician. This is a tough one! There are a lot of good people on this list – and a few Republicans too! (Just kidding! There are some good Republicans too…)
My personal vote is for State Senator Lou Correa, who recently gave out toys and cooked for everyone at his annual “Toys for Tots” event at the Santa Ana Zoo.

In my opinion, compassion is not an important factor for legislators. Effective and pragmatic leadership skills are much more important.
CA Senator Lou Correa is one of those rare individuals who are both effective pragmatic leaders and at the same time are genuinely compassionate.
Pam Keller has my vote. She was the only Fullerton Councilperson who voted for Medical MJ.
Above and beyond the rest: Lorri Galloway
You’re right about Pam Keller being compassionate, Bushala. She was the only person who was friendly to me at the insular, clannish North Orange County Democratic Club the two times I showed up to talk about SB 840… and she still returns my calls and e-mails even though I’m in HB and she’s not running for office right now anyway.
Still, can’t we have some kind of compromise here, “compassion” is so… inoffensive. How about “OC’s Most Compassionate Goofy-Looking Politico?”
Lou’s event was also a food donation program…bring a can of unopened food and you get free admission to the zoo. Having said this, Lou apparently didn’t notify the public about this one requirement, and many showed up without a donation. Seeing this, compassionate Lou said in his best imitation of beloved Santa, “Let them all in”. Of course this cost an already money strapped city additional loss of revenue (by not charging the small fee for admission to the zoo). I’m sure Lou will compensate the city for the small amount of lost revenue…NOT!
Im glad you replaced mishas sick post with this one.
Hands down the winner is Lake Forest Councilwoman Kathryn Mc Cullough. I have known Kathy for over a decade. During that time she and her husband operated a food bank in Mission Viejo where they used their own money to fund this outreach effort. Struggling to cover the rent they later moved their operation to a store front on El Toro Road. She has blessed many needy singles and families over the years with limited support from any city government. I am writing this because she has no desire to be in the spotlight for her committment to those less fortunate then herself.
PS: She probably is not even aware of this poll!
Lou Correa Hands down the most compassionate.
>”You Are Family To Me”< Lou famous kindness
Art,
Thank you for taking down that repugnant post and instead inviting competition about characteristics individuals can actually control.
In the spirit of all of the pending holidays, you could also take down the “… Orange County’s hottest politician” post and further redeem this blog. Can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I am always hugely offended by the pathological value attached to physicality in our society. “In my head movies” (reference Tropic Thunder), our evolved commenters would never have endorsed the superficilaity typified on that post.
But, anyway, just want to say I appreciate that you excised that malignant post!
Just Curious-
I’m just guessing or speculating but you would probably say Lou was a d*** if he turned people away. After he didn’t make them aware a donation was needed he then turned them away that asshat.
How about complaining about the fact that the City Council has dump so much money into the zoo instead of using the money where is really needed like say schools. But we really need a giant aardvark right? Millions.
EM.
The SA Zoo has 2 non-profits that collect and raises the money that it costs to run the Zoo.
For these funds to be used in the Zoo, they have to be given to the city and then appropriated to the Zoo spending account.
The Zoo is self supporting with volunteers and donations from all over and by many people.
Cook this was posted on this very blog on May 31, 2008-
The Mayor
“Spent a small fortune to build a giant anteater exhibit at the Santa Ana Zoo”
Oh my bad it was an anteater not an aardvark haha
