The OC blogosphere has seen much squabbling between Art Pedroza and Chris Prevatt. The latest argument involves whether or not the story broken by Art that questions whether Janet Nguyen’s vote on restaurant ratings is a conflict of interest as Janet and her husband are involved in the restaurant business.
A lot of the discussion involves motives of the bloggers. Chris and the OCEA being accused of being pro Janet Nguyen and Art being anti as Janet did not endorse Art.
The Shadow does not understand why all the animus between the two. Why would Prevatt and the OCEA give money to a Republican lead effort against Pedroza? Carlos Bustamante seems far from progressive. Why does Prevatt seem to dislike Pedroza? Why is Pedroza quick to make fun of Prevatt?
Both have run for City Council. The results are below. Not too good for either but they have to be given credit for throwing their hat into the ring, Chris against Van Tran one time and Art against Bustamante. So in a sense they are both progressives and instigators yet are like oil and water.
The Shadow propose a peace treaty and a mending of fences between Art and Chris and the Liberal OC and the Orange Juice. During this holiday season perhaps we could lay down our pens and swords and point our criticisms at the real injustices that go on everyday in Orange County.

OC Shadow,
How very timely! My initial reaction is that whatever friendship I had with Prevatt was sundered when we brought Sarah Spinosa over to our blog. But I think we have to go back even further to trace the animus.
When Mike Lawson left the Liberal OC, he left Prevatt and his co-editor, Dan C., in charge. But he took with him the soul of the Liberal OC. Lawson is a truly nice guy. Prevatt and Dan C. have proven to be anything but. All you have left at the Liberal OC is bitterness.
Both the Liberal OC and Red County shill for their respective parties. The Orange Juice does not carry water for anyone. We go after all bad politicians – and in the OC most of them are Republicans. However the worst Democrats are found on the Santa Ana City Council. They all get a free pass from the Liberal OC due to their partisan registration.
Finally, I am glad you brought up our political campaigns. Prevatt and Dan C. joined with Matt/Jubal Cunningham to attack my council campaign with a truly lame hit piece. Prevatt’s union sunk $5,000 into that mailer. In so doing Prevatt and Dan C. helped a Republican, Carlos Bustamante. That was unforgiveable. I was endorsed by both ECCO and Planned Parenthood, and by State Senator Lou Correa. But Prevatt and Dan C. didn’t care.
So is peace possible now between us? I truly doubt it. That mailer was the last straw. And quite frankly I think that both Prevatt and Dan C. are jealous because our blog gets over twice the readership that theirs does. Their readership tanked after Sean Mill left.
The OC needs a liberal blog. The Liberal OC unfortunately isn’t a liberal blog. It is a group of blue hacks for the DPOC – and in Prevatt’s case for his union (which likely explains his ardor for Janet Nguyen). I will be happy to support a REAL liberal blog should one ever arise.
If Art & Chris have a reconciliation, or even a cease fire, that would take half the fun out of this blog.
junior
Let OJ and the Liberal OC fight. As I’ve written before, it reminds me of the great newspaper wars in the past. Just one question: who’s Hearst and who’s Old Man Chandler (and I’m not talking about Otis)?
Gustavo is right. Let ’em duke it out. If everything was peaceful there wouldn’t be any political blogs at all.
That’s also why the ongoing Pedroza/Cunningham hair pull is so much fun.
Frankly,
There is no such thing as a truce with Pedroza. He has broken so many before your time OC Shadow, I think just about everything has been tried,
I am sorry that Art does not know the difference between libel and opinion. It is sad that for a blog which individually approves or rejects “Every Comment”, Art still permits anonymous posting of libel to pass through.
Peace in our time will only occur when Art, and through him His blog, behaves like a responsible adult. That is unlikely to happen.
Eventually Art will go to far, and find himself in court. It could be anyone who takes hime there.
Those pics are creepy…talk about “separated at birth”.
Chris,
I have never seen anyone as thin skinned as you and your buddies.
Perhaps the most pathetic display by you was when you went crying to Nick Beradino about something I wrote in response to your attack on Patrick Kelly and the Teamsters. You had Beradino call me and try and intimidate me. What a joke!
Speaking of behaving as a “responsible adult”, is that what you call that post you put up recently about that youth pastor named “Pedroza” being arrested on molestation charges?
I am sure you will play the “Art did it with Bustamante” card, but does that make it right?
You portray yourself as being so much better than the folks at the Orange Juice and act as if you are above the fray. We all know better.
You can stop with the self-righteous indignation anytime you want and run along and hack for whoever OCEA and the DPOC tell you too. Just don’t do it on the taxpayers dime okay.
Sean said: “I have never seen anyone as thin skinned as you and your buddies.”
Hey ! – don’t forget about “thin skinned junior” Sean.
This may appear to be a dumb question to those who have a lot of experience with blogs – I do not and it is a sincere question. I pretty much understand who Art Pedroza is, and have seen on this blog how his support for electeds can quickly change to antagonism toward the same electeds, but I just do not know who Chris Prevatt is, other than to see he has unsuccessfully sought elected office like Art Pedroza. Can someone tell me who he is, what his connection is to OCEA and its CEO Nick Beradino? Is Prevatt a government employee/member of OCEA?
Thanks in advance for educating me on this.
I am sure you will play the “Art did it with Bustamante” card, but does that make it right?
Are you admitting that what Art did was wrong, Sean? Because you were mute during that tempest.
And I forgot about Art’s war with Matt. Art ain’t Hearst—he’s a Fleet Street type of guy!
“Are you admitting that what Art did was wrong, Sean? Because you were mute during that tempest.”
Jubal,
I know you will find this hard to believe but I do concern myself with things outside the blogosphere. I was not so much “mute” as I was probably not paying attention to the debate over it.
You may also find it hard to believe, but unlike the “Red” and “Blue” blogs we don’t have to all agree with each other over here. I would not have run the Bustamante post and I thought it was a cheap shot.
With that being said I just wonder why you have a double standard in regards to this. If it was wrong for Art to do it than it should be wrong for Chris to do it, right?
If you are going to take the high road and criticize Art than you should do the same regarding Chris. When you only choose to go after Art it demonstrates hypocrisy on your part.
I think that Art’s “Bustamante” post was in poor taste and I think that Prevatt’s “Pedroza” post was in poor taste. Where do you stand?
“Is Prevatt a government employee/member of OCEA?”
Yes Prevatt is employed by the County of Orange. Ironically he works for the County Health Care Agency, the same folks that do the restaurant inspections.
Prevatt is also the treasurer for the OCEA and a member of its board of directors.
You may also find it hard to believe, but unlike the “Red” and “Blue” blogs we don’t have to all agree with each other over here.
Ah, Orange Juice Canard #13: TheLiberalOC.com and Red County enforce uniformity of opinion and don’t tolerate differing viewpoints.
I’ve never really understood why you and Art need to concoct myths like that one. Is it to make yourselves feel better? Rationalize the viciousness characteristic of OJ?
If it was wrong for Art to do it than it should be wrong for Chris to do it, right?
Because turnabout is fair play. Art saw nothing wrong with trying to mislead readers into thinking Bustamante hit a police car while driving drunk. He’s never apologized for it, expressed remorse or indicated he thinks he did anything wrong. Maybe Chris’s post will drive the point home into Art’s thick, contrition-proof skull.
Hey I’m just a fan of alternative media and like a lot of fans of that genre I like a post that is in poor taste now and then. I like a little rumor and innuendo, I like it more when those same get developed into a real story with facts and everything. The best is when there is a prosecution and trial and my OC favorites -OJBlog and OCWeekly- come across with the ‘best’ quite a bit. Thank you.
#9 Snh, welcome. Is Nick “CEO” – I thought he was a business agent? Sorry, I’m not that familiar with OCEA structure
“I’ve never really understood why you and Art need to concoct myths like that one. ”
Jubal,
This is not a myth. While I don’t know how you run things, I do know how Prevatt and company do since I did blog there.
Chris got upset with a story I posted that was critical of some of his DPOC buddies. Despite the fact that I had documentation to back up my story, Chris demanded, thru Dan C., that I take the story down and apologize for it. When I refused he kicked me off his blog.
So that is not a myth.
“Because turnabout is fair play.”
So two wrongs make a right? That is quite hypocritical. If it was wrong for Art it should be wrong for Chris.
The fact that you refuse to admit that shows your hypocrisy and your bias.
If Carlos Bustamante had retaliated in such a manner I might buy your “turnabout” argument. However it was Prevatt and this demonstrates that he is no better than Pedroza so you and he can cut the self-righteous crap.
“I am sorry that Art does not know the difference between libel and opinion.”
Chris,
Kinda like when you continued and spread the rumor that I was making out with Dina Nguyen on Main Street right?
Art and Chris at it again, Saddleback Mountains in the background.
Paul,
Are you saying that Chris Prevatt is a hypocrite?
This is not a myth. While I don’t know how you run things…
And yet, you claim bloggers on Red County are forbidden to express different opinions.
However it was Prevatt and this demonstrates that he is no better than Pedroza so you and he can cut the self-righteous crap.
It’s interesting you only seem to get worked up when it is Art in the crossfire.
And there is nothing hypocritical in Chris’ posts, nor in my assertion that turnabout is fair play.
Let’s put this in proper context. Chris post was meant (I take it) to illustrate to an unrepentant Pedroza why his Bustamante post was wrong — or as you charitably put it, in “poor taste.”
It’s not part of pattern on Chris’ part. It’s not typical of the kind of blogger he is.
The Bustamante post, on the other hand, is very typical of Art and his penchant for half-truths and fact-twisting (to which you yourself used to attest), his ends-justifies-the-means mentality and his complete lack of remorse for any of his viciousness.
Sean,
Im saying that Chris sprad and propogated a rumor that I was making out with Dina Nguyen on Main Street in GG. A rumor started by Misha Houser AKA the Shadow.
It suited his viewpoint at that time that I had gotten balls deep into the Tranny Camp when in reality I just didnt and still dont like Janet Nguyen.
Chris got played like a harp when Phil Becerra was pulling his strings and getting him whipped into a frenzy.
If that makes him a hypocrite than so be it. One thing for cetain is that his fear and anxiety was so strong it fogged his ability to think clearly and with a critical lens. He was blinded by fear.
BTW,
I have never received an apology or retraction for that slanderous remark from Prevatt or Lib OC.
Jubal,
Okay I will retract my claim that you run “Red County” in the same fashion that Prevatt runs “Blue County”. You claimed that it was a myth regarding both blogs, so obviously you are conceding that it is not a myth at “Blue County”.
“It’s not part of pattern on Chris’ part. It’s not typical of the kind of blogger he is.”
And I suppose neither were his posting of the Aloha photo provided to him via a conduit from Thomas Gordon or his false claims about me saying that the city swiped Aloha’s cart?
Chris has quite a pattern of shady blogging. You just choose to ignore it.
We’re not Red Americans and Blue Americans we’re Blog Americans.
Hey Sean,
Wanna take bets on wether or not I get an apology or retraction from Prevatt or Lib OC? Or even place bets on when he says he doesnt need to give one?
Paul,
Chris doesn’t apologize he just closes comments on his blog.
Well I take that back, he did apologize to Patrick Kelly and the Teamsters for attacking them, but that was only because Beradino handed him his ass for going after Patrick.
Yeah,
well he went crying like a little girl, (I say Girl because I dont think I can write B*tch on this blog) to Frank Barbaro when I confronted him on his trashing labor. Low and behold, I get a call from Frank telling me not to pick on Prevatt and that I hurt his feelings.
I believe that the sniping at Art by Prevatt stems from the fact that the OJ gets nearly twice as many visitors and over 1300 more page views each day than does the Liberal OC.
I don’t know if it is just a coincidence or not, but the Liberal OC was drawing more readers than the OJ when I was blogging there, but now that it is just hackery for the DPOC and the OCEA readership has steadily dwindled.
Prevatt’s self-righteous act wears thin when you take into account his sketchy posts like the “Pedroza/Molester” and “Aloha photo”, etc.
This is about relevency in the blogosphere and the Liberal OC is becoming more and more irrelevent with each passing day.
I believe that the sniping at Art by Prevatt stems from the fact that the OJ gets nearly twice as many visitors and over 1300 more page views each day than does the Liberal OC.
I can’t speak for Chris, but I don’t think anyone else in the OC blogosphere cares too much about comparative traffic stats. Art is obsessed with traffic numbers, but not everyone shares his monomania.
Besides, the reason for the OC traffic bump isn’t mysterious: SMS optimized OJ for the search engines, and this blog has the good fortune to be named after a popular breakfast beverage.
Nothing else about OJ changed other than that, unless you believe that overnight there were twice as many people interested in reading what OJ has to offer.
Jubal,
What I do believe is that less and less people are interested in reading Prevatt’s OCEA/DPOC hackery with each passing day.
Perhaps he should just make “Blue County” a site where Nick and Melahat can post press releases. That is pretty much what it has become anyway.
Art Sean,
prevatt removed the OJ link from the Lib OC launchpad.
gaawwwd – who gives a sh*t about this petty stuff? !
Not to be misogynistic (well maybe it is) you all sound like a bunch of women – sh*t! Sounds like a damn cat fight.
You all are makin’ my frickin’ skull explode !!
Paul,
Who cares? It’s not like we are getting much traffic from them anyways. Nobody reads Prevatt’s hackery too much anymore.
Junior,
Funny to hear you complain about “petty stuff”.
Art,
I would suggest your restore the post about who is the “unemployed planner” so people can know exactly who is pulling Prevatts emotional strings.
SHM,
I do not complain about anything petty. If I have, on occassion, it is only in response to some stupid-ass comment of yours.
I am sorry Junior, the word I should used was ironic and not funny.
I find it ironic that you of all people would complain about something or someone being petty considering how petty you are.
Sean – Name one issue which I have brought forward which is petty.
Sean – Name one issue which I have brought forward which is petty.
LMFAO! You’re kidding, right, junior?
This is my experience of you: You’ve been so petty that I requested that you cease emailing me from the OJ email list. I’ve been online a very long time and you are the ONLY one I’ve come across that was unable to “let it go” when it came to petty issues.
Really, thanks for the laugh today!
“right” RV – KMA.
Here, junior. I’m going to return the favor of some good humor for this fine day: “Size does Matter”
A highly timid little man, ventured into a biker bar in the Bronx and clearing his throat asked, “Um, err, which of you gentlemen owns the Doberman tied outside to the parking meter?”
A giant of a man, wearing biker leathers, his body hair growing out through the seams, turned slowly on his stool, looked down at the quivering little man and said, “It’s my dog. Why?”
“Well,” squeaked the little man, obviously very nervous, “I believe my dog just killed it, sir.”
“What?” roared the big man in disbelief. “What in the hell kind of dog do you have?”
“Sir,” answered the little man, “it’s a little four week old female puppy.”
“BULL!” roared the biker. “How could your puppy kill my Doberman?”
“It appears that your dog choked on her, sir.”
RV – You have a f’n wierd sense of humor.
“I’ve been online a very long time and you are the ONLY one I’ve come across that was unable to “let it go” when it came to petty issues.”
Well said Red, well said.
SHM – I am still waiting for that list of petty issues.
SHM – I am still waiting for that list of petty issues.
Um, junior, you might just be illustrating Sean’s and my point about the petty thing. You seem to be getting petty about references to your petty behavior. Here’s the definition of petty:
1. petty
When someone takes a small subject and blows it out of proportion.
At times, making something otherwise insignificant into something bigger to suit their own agenda.
Daisy: Man, that girl is so petty. She can really make a mountain out of a mole hill.
2. petty
Someone that is so insignificant as to be almost unworthy of notice, even despicable. Marked by narrowness of mind, ideas, or views. Deliberately nasty for a foolish or trivial reason.

junior, junior, junior, not to be petty but this post of yours “gaawwwd – who gives a sh*t about this petty stuff? !
Not to be misogynistic (well maybe it is) you all sound like a bunch of women – sh*t! Sounds like a damn cat fight.
You all are makin’ my frickin’ skull explode !!” is very similar to what I start to think on any thread when I read your comment more than twice – hmmmm, thats just about every one, isn’t it?
Junior, I nominate you for the king of petty on OJB. Of course I don’t want you to think that’s necessarily a bad thing, the field is crowded here but you scratched your way to the top.
Merry Christmas!
Anonyms,
Merry Christmas!
