Why did the Libertarian Party endorse Republican Kermit Marsh?

Now this is a weird story.  For some reason, the Libertarian Party of Orange County has endorsed Westminster Councilman Kermit Marsh (pictured above in a kilt), who is a very conservative Republican, for an O.C. Superior Court seat, against Debra Carillo, according to Red County

Red County also states that Marsh “is supported by the bulk of Orange County’s Republican Leaders and by traditional center-right groups, like the Young Republicans, the Lincoln Club and the California Republican Lawyers Association.”  There is NOTHING “center” about any of those organizations!

In fact if you look at Marsh’ website, he is endorsed by a Who’s Who of conservative Republicans, with the exception of Santa Ana Miguel Pulido, who may as well be a Republican.

The irony in all this is that Matt “Jubal” Cunningham, the editor of Red County, sent out an attack mailer against me last week that stated that the Libertarian Party is the party that wants to legalize pot and prostitution.  So why is Matt’s blog touting the Libertarian Party’s endorsement of Marsh?

And why DID the Libertarian’s endorse a guy who supports Prop. 8?  That makes NO sense to me, as the Libertarian party is opposed to Prop. 8.  These kind of endorsements make my friends at the Libertarian Party look bad.

Carillo, on the other hand, is endorsed by one of the Libertarian Party’s superstars, Judge Jim Gray.  In fact she is supported by dozens of judges.  I know that she opposed Prop. 8 too, as she was at the recent ECCO dinner. ECCO also has declared that Marsh is “unacceptable.”

Carillo has my vote.
