Todd and Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin in 2012?

The 2008 presidential election is less than two weeks away. But that’s old news. Let’s talk about who’s going to run in 2012, shall we?
Andrew Romano of Newsweek speculates that Gov. Sarah Palin may be gearing up for a run at the White House in four short years. The blogger acknowledges that the idea might seem a bit wacky at first glance. However, he cites several examples of Palin disagreeing with her running mate, John McCain, that support his theory. To name but a few, Gov. Palin has publicly disagreed with Sen. McCain on North Korea, gay marriage, and those oh-so-irritating robo-calls. Romano writes that it’s almost as if Palin is putting herself in a position where she can say, “It wasn’t my fault,” should the Obama-Biden ticket prevail.
But that’s not all. According to several sources within the Buzz, various Republicans are “considering” Palin as a 2012 presidential candidate. The Daily Telegraph speculates that “Ms Palin seems to be positioning herself for a long future on the national scene.” The Washington Post writes: “Like her or hate her, Palin remains VERY much in the mix as a 2012 candidate.”
Of course, there hasn’t been any official announcement. Still, it’s worth noting that searches on a possible Palin presidency are already picking up steam. We’re not sure if the lookups are sincere or ironic, but “palin 2012,” “sarah palin for president,” and “palin for president stickers” are all making noise.
In short, 2012 may be four years away, but it’s already looking like Caribou Barbie has enough buzz to make another play, should she and McCain fall short in ’08.
Coke bottle away Vern!
By all means, let’s see her run. And let’s see her and her wacky ideas hide from the media for the year and a half it takes to run. Bring it on.
That will be the final nail in the GOP coffin. I agree, Bring it!
Just thinking of Caribou Barbie in the White House makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on their edge…..God help us!
If she runs, she would guarantee a Democrat win. Elections are won in the middle, not at the fringes where she clearly is.
McCain’s fault was to select her to pander to the right-wing nuts in the Republican Party. That alienated the moderate Republicans.
Yeah, whatever. A radical liberal Democrat had no trouble capturing the nomination and a lead in the polls. The know nothing can’t decide middle has never made a difference in anything.
A moderate Republican is a Democrat who can’t make up their mind.
I agree, I’ve been totally thinking the same thing. It makes perfect sense, in a tragicomic sort of way.
Keep plugging away all you Greens and Libertarians! We are going to need a second (and third) party for this century! I do NOT trust one-party Democratic rule.
The know nothing can’t decide middle has never made a difference in anything.
Damn stupid Americans, what’re you gonna do, Terry? makes you almost feel like moving to Canada huh? (Not that I want you to, but… the Fraser Institute would hire you)
“We are going to need a second (and third) party for this century!”
Yeah, but the winner-takes-all election system in the US makes that very hard.
Although the UK shows that it is possible even in a winner-takes-all election system to establish a permanent third party.
But that requires some real leadership for a third party, not the petty bickering that I see in the libertarian party. If they had done things right, they probably could have captured a lot of the mindsets and the votes that went to Ron Paul in the primaries.
It’s really all the same to me, Terry, but this poll suggests “No.”

Looking forward to 2012, it seems Palin ain’t quite the darling of the base some imagine. If Republicans had to pick for 2012 today, it’d be: Romney 35%, Huckabee 26%, Palin 20%.

If Palin runs for President in 2012, at least she has name recognition going for her… but that may not work in her favor
