Here’s the latest news from our friend, Costa Mesa Councilwoman Katrina Foley:
SEVEN FORMER COSTA MESA MAYORS ENDORSE KATRINA FOLEY FOR RE-ELECTION TO CITY
COUNCIL
In a strong showing of bipartisan support, seven former Costa Mesa Mayors announced their support of Katrina Foley’s re-election campaign. The seven are Mayor and OCTA Vice Chairman Peter Buffa, Mayor Sandy Genis, Mayor Libby Cowan, Mayor Linda Dixon, Mayor Joe Erickson, Mayor and OC Community College Trustee Mary Hornbuckle, and Mayor and Planning Commission Chairman Don Hall.
Commenting of the unprecedented group endorsement, Former Mayor Peter Buffa commented that this was “ …the first time in my memory that all of us have united around a single candidate for City Council. We represent different neighborhoods, different political parties and different approaches to local government but we are united in our support of Katrina. She’s doing a great job.”
Former Mayor Sandy Genis said …”I have lived in Costa Mesa since I was seven, and it has not been until the last couple of years that I have ever seriously considered moving elsewhere. I am endorsing Katrina Foley because of the actions of our current council majority that I do not think are in the long term interests of the Costa Mesa citizenry and our quality of life.”
Genis continued… “I believe that their choices on a number of matters have been fiscally irresponsible, making it difficult, if not impossible, for future councils to address our infrastructure needs.”
Foley also has recently been endorsed by the Costa Mesa Firefighters and the Costa Mesa Police Officers Associations as well as the Daily Pilot, BIA, OC CAR DEALERS ASSOCIATION, LEAGUE OF CONSERVATION VOTERS, among others.
DON’T FORGET TO VOTE FOLEY FOR RE-ELECTION TO THE COSTA MESA CITY COUNCIL WWW.KATRINAFOLEY.COM
I’ve met Katrina a number of times during this campaign, she is tireless, endlessly cheerful and enthusiastic, smart, funny, and insightful. Her constituents can be proud supporting her. I was walking Costa Mesa for her and Debbie last weekend and the neighbors I spoke with really seemed tired of the grip the neo-cons have had on this city and are supporting a progressive change.
Newbie, if you didn’t see everything through that negative, grumpy haze you might find that there are a lot of people like Katrina in every walk of life. Or are you stuck on figuring out which ones are “real”?
I attended a Costa Mesa candidate forum last week at Katrina’s invitation, to man a table of Debbie Cook literature. In between writing comments on the blog (specifically, dismembering Crowley over Prop 8 ) I listened to the candidates talk. I was already a big Katrina fan, but I was especially impressed by a guy called Chris Bunyan. He was extremely articulate and knowledgeable on local issues, and started off his talk, “I know I’m thought of as the environmental candidate here, but there are a lot of other issues I’m also concerned about…” reminding me immediately of Debbie! His organization (or campaign?) is called “Costa Mesa Respect.”

The other impressive candidate was Bill Sneen. Costa Mesans (is that right?) get to vote for three this year, and Foley-Bunyan-Sneen makes a good slate of responsible/moderate/environmentally conscious candidates. They tell me they are already sort of a “de facto” slate by necessity, because of the REAL dangerous slate actually running together:
That would be incumbent Bever and formerly termed-out Righeimer and Monahan. These three – like the power blocs in so many councils – favor gentrification and unchecked development, and are awash in out-of-town money. (Righeimer also happens to be Dana Rohrabacher’s campaign manager.) If those three got in, joining Minutemen mayor Mansoor and his disciple Wendy Leece, we would have total unanimity on some very hateful policies in Costa Mesa.
Oh! I also got to meet the new OC Weekly blogger of the year that night – Geoff the Pot Stirrer of A Bubbling Cauldron. He (I hope I’m remembering right) is backing Foley, Bunyan, and Righeimer. I didn’t quite catch his reasoning with Righeimer, but I guess he wrote an essay about it somewhere on his blog:

*We fully support Katrina Foley…she is a good one!
