Remember, remember the fifth of November
Election, the vote and ballot box
I see no reason, why this voting season
Should ever be forgot.
Remember, remember, the fifth of November,
Election, the vote and ballot box!
A vote or cast for Saint Anne’s sake
Will you please give us a stake?
If you can’t give us one, we’ll take two;
The better for us and the worse for you!
Remember the campaigns of 2008,
The spins, the lies, the surprises.
Daily they came and they gave no relief
As a picture emerged on the canvas.
The face was familiar, but never before
Had it changed so often, so completely.
The up became down, the in became out,
and the right stumbled and grasped.
The left was confused, didn’t know how to win,
But the knight from Chicago sure did.
He created his group to be independent and strong,
Not to rely on the party that is.
The final vote cast…. (anyone?)
… and you are???

Where is Guy Fawkes when you really need him?
SMS,
Guy Fawkes is our newest blogger. He is using a pen name for the usual reasons… Please join me in welcoming him to the Orange Juice!
And I am V – for Vendetta!!
OH PS Carl, Guy Fawkes is not me – one alterego is enough
Ummm isnt the election Nov 4th?
My dear FLowerszzz,
Yes, the general election is on the fourth of November but the rhyme refers to the day after our votes our cast; where a new civic consciousness emerges to guide our communities towards a more optimistic future.
Thank you Mr. Pedroza for the kind welcome
Mr. Fawkes – Care to explain your reference to St. Anne?
LOL you might wanna remind people about nov 4th first – sorry but the whole thing makes no sense whatsoever. The voting season is over nov 5th.
Poor Flowerszzz never saw V For Vendetta, and is unaware of the centuries-long tradition and significance of Guy Fawkes Day.
Does the OJ blog “Guy Fawkes” desire to emulate his namesake and attempt to blow up Congress?
Junior,
The reference to St. Anne has to do with the direct translation of “Santa Ana” from Spanish to English. If my memory recalls, the entire area surrounding the Santa Ana River was named by Junipero Serra as Vallejo de Santa Ana as a form of respect to the Virgin Mary’s mother.
Flowerzz,
Once again, November 5th is referenced as a turning point in American politics. It it the day after our votes our casts that change will emerge.
Oops, sorry, I thought we were starting an epic poem. Nevermind. Welcome Guy!
Whoosh right over my head lol. And I have seen V is for Vendetta – great movie btw…..but I just thought it more important to remind about november 4th. Perhaps I just think too logically and not artistically.
That’s understandable if you only saw V once, young Flowerszzz. It’s one of those jam-packed films that you can see five times and still catch new things. Still, the poem “GF” altered for this post was a sort of refrain that was repeated throughout the film.
never saw V, lets have a screening on Nov 5
Good idea, where?
GF –
Great post.
Poor Flowerzzz, just doesn’t get it sometimes.
