Focus on RSCCD Board of Education Candidates: Art Lomeli

My good friend Dr. Art Lomeli is running for the Rancho Santiago Community College District’s Board of Education.  He has my full endorsement.  Click here to see Lomeli’s Smart Voter campaign website.

Lomeli’s endorsements include State Senator Lou Correa; Santa Ana Councilwoman Michele Martinez; RSCCD Trustee Al Amezcua; and businessman Fernando Niebla.

Here is his letter announcing his campaign as well as a fundraiser that is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 12:

Dear Friends,

It is my pleasure to announce my candidacy for the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board of Trustees.

My name is Arturo Jose Lomeli, DDS. I was born in Zacapu, Michoacan, Mexico. I am the eldest of 6 children. My family immigrated to the United States in 1963. I am now a USA citizen. I currently live in Orange Park Acres with my wife and three children, ages 24, 19 and 16. I have a dental practice in downtown Santa Ana. My practice has been in Santa Ana for 20 years. I attended Orange Coast College, UCLA, and participated in a Science summer program at Harvard University before obtaining my undergraduate degree in Biology from California State University at Fullerton. I obtained my D.D.S. degree from the University of California at San Francisco School of Dentistry in 1987. I went on to serve as an adjunct professor for 2 years in the School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California.

I have a record of community volunteerism, involvement and professional expertise. I am a commissioner with the City of Santa Ana and have held numerous executive positions in local business associations and community organizations and was recently honored with the Distinguished Service Award presented by the Kiwanis of Santa Ana for my many hours of service to the community, including donating professional dental care to students with financial challenges.

I am currently interested in serving as a Governing Board Member for the Rancho Santiago Community College District. As a life-long resident of the district, educator, professional and parent of community college students, I understand the issues, challenges and opportunities for current and future generations.

As your representative on the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board, I fully commit to enhancing educational opportunities for all members of the community at Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College. My goals will be to ensure clear and transparent oversight, establish fair policies and procedures, secure sound fiscal accountability, maintain and enhance rigorous academic programs, and provide student services that promote success.

My vision and experience will provide a broad perspective, sound judgment, and strong leadership. I would be honored to serve as your Trustee.

Please join my family and I at a fundraising reception to kick off my campaign at my home.
